I don't really fit in with any of the cliques either, but when it comes down to it, being labeled a skater would be much better to me than a jock or a prep, so I just wear skater-esque clothes, because they look cool, and don't really listen to what anyone says.

hey dave, sorry your cat died. Does goldberg think the sport should be bigger? So, basically, he thinks the problem is that we're a stoner sport?

can't wait to shred with you at funtastiks... who are you staying with?

I think you're misinterpreting it. It's not that there aren't really good athletes making it hard like a sport, it's that no one's promoting it like a sport. Everyone in footbag is so damn anti-success (sorrrta goes along with it being a "stoner sport," Matt, but I wouldn't quite make that connection), to preserve the "closeness" of the sport. They don't want it to get "corrupted," and want it to be "non-competitive" and that is complete BS and dragging the name of the sport down.

Aight bitches and hoes.

Heres a summary of funatstiks by yours truly, david clavens.

It all starts Saturday morning, I wake up, pack and shit you know. Hop in the car aound 12. I had all these plans to make some huge movie but that kinda went out the window, but on the way there I filmed shit. W e stopped at my sisters college and picked her up, and I showed some college kids shred. They thought it was nifty.

Onward we went to Harrisburg, we got there around 330 or something. I walked around did the whole meet people thing, it was cool. I settled down, registered, and talked with people. I then warmed up and played. I think I played the best of the weekend the first day, but im not sure anyone could tell. Not big combos just solid long lines. I kicked with caleb, chris, hood, caleb, peter, nate and some others. It was pretty fun. I didn’t weant to kill myself so I stopped and sdat down and ate some sandwhich.

Then I went back to the hotel and jumped in the hot tub with the boys (caleb and hood + jake). I talked to jake a little and hes really mad cool, like im so glad I roomed with him. I got my gunits from ian too. More on that later. So we did that whole thing, and then we went to waffle house for dinner, but caleb tried to climb up the side of it and we got yelled at, so we went to eat n park. Got some food, met up with Goldberg, then back to the hotel. We hung out there and just walked around and I watched some new kids play footbag, that was cool. Gave some tips, yada yada. I then went back to the room at like midnight and me and jake modded up the units, that was really weird. They are so diff then lavers. It was like 3 am when I finished (it didn’t take 3 hours, I just talked while I did it). so after that I went to sleep but damn pat kept taking up the bed so I didn’t fall asleep till like 4. bummer.

Day 2 started at like, 10 am or something. I woke up, showered, then we all went to waffle house for breakfast. We saw pete and sunil there, and everyone compared new lons (I bought one Saturday). We had some breakfast and shit, and then we all went to the site. I warmed up and then did my shred 30 which I dropped tons on, and then my semis routine which was alright. I was pretty bummed about my performcance so I kinda just chilled. But I cheered up when I starting oplaying in the units. I played with matt cross for a while, and that was cool. Then me ian jon hood and caleb went down to where this band was playing and we kinda took over the dance floor and me and caleb shredded there, it was sick. The band was feeling us and we ripped it. after that we went back to the hotel, hot tubbed, and ordered pizza. I still owe hood 5 bucks.

We ate, and then went out to the hall of fame shit which was cool, but I missed a lot cuz I was scoring shred 30. turns out in shred it went scott me jon, and in routines pete chris me. So I made it to finals in both which was good. I watched the rest of the thing and then I started playing 4 square. People said that a shred was going on and I really wanted to play so I went searching. I found them all in this dance hall but supposedly they were getting kicked out everywhere they went. This soon happened at this place and we were forced to relocate, but to where? We went to the front desk, and they said as long as we were quiet we could play in the lobby. So we went worlds 02 style and snapped. I played with nate, will, and hood. That was so much fun. We all hit a bunch of shit. Then the circle turned into me caleb and will, and then will dropped out. Me and caleb went one on one for a while and everyone watche.d I hit some crazy shit, and he hit a bunch of stuff. Mobius>flurry, ducking scorp, retarded shit. He is really good. After the session we went to eat n park at 3 am, then back to bed.

I woke up on day 3 sore as a mother trucker. Man, I felt weird. So I hot tubbed it, and packecd up all my shit. We then went downtown and got some grub, and then went back to the tournmanet. I warmedu p and shit, yada yada. And then the guys I had to room with had to leave, so lets take a moment to say stuff about them.

Hood – this kid is awesome. I had so much fun messing around with him and just laughing. Hes really funny when hes wasted and shit. Im so glad I got to know him better, and his game is really good too.
Caleb – me and caleb are totally on the same level mentally. We are both really hardcore. He really busted and was awesome to hang with. He is definatley a force.
Jake – jake is awesome man, It was great meeting him. We hung out a bunch and we really just vibed. It was weird, like after 3 days hes totally one of my best footbag friends. I hope I see him soon, cuz another year would suck.
Ian – this kid filmed all weekend, which gets major props. He was mad supportive of me and bought me the units. Thanks for everything bro.

Ok, after that sob story, they all left and competition started. My shred 30 went great until I dropped 3 times on a blurry whirl, but I pulled it out. It was really close so I didn’t know who won. Then came routines and I think mine went well and I was really feeling it. I was beat after that so I just kinda chilled and everyone had that “touranmanet is over” kind of feel. Sucked. I kicked a little bit here and there, and the it was time for awards. Heres the breakdown.

Shred:
1) David – 187
2) scott – 177
3) greg or jon, I forget

Routines
1) pete
2) david
3) scott

I got 250 bucks which was great. Im surprised I won with such a shit shred 30 score. Im happy I did well but I think routines was so tight that anyone could’ve gotten 2nd.

After that we all headed over to this restaurant and ate. I had a nice convo with nate over dinner, that was cool. We basically just chilled and ate and then me and jon schiender went home, because he goes by my town on his way. I said goodbye to everyone, and thanked joe and Brenda for a phat tournament. I got home around 8, tired as shit.

Overall this tournmanet was the shit. Awesome people, awesome times. Im really glad I went. I feel like I played well and met my potential. I know I could do even better in routines and shred though.

I hate reading summaries and its just all like, stupid summaries of events and stuff. So I want to break it down and talk about the people who really made the tournament happen for me.

Roomies – all the guys above + pat and Justin, staying with you guys was sweet
Goldberg – we chilled a bit and you frikken flew 6 hours for the jam. Thanks man
Ian – thanks for filming
Matt cross – it was great to play with you on Sunday. You have really improved
Chris Dean - styly as hell! This kid will rip it in a few months
Pipenberg – ugh, so sick. I was so impressed by just the effortlessness of his stuff.
Flash – still the most impact on my game from anyone. You’re my favorite person to get skooled by.
Peter – super chill, fun to shred with, buttsauce. Word.
Nasty – thanks for coming from Oregon and shredding it up. Im glad we see each other, even if it is so infrequent.

Im forgetting a shit load of people, but you all know who you are. Thanks to anyone who organized the tounramnet and helped out. See everyone next year.

Hi,

For the past 2 weeks, I have sucked pretty badly. After funtastiks school, work, and stress just made my shred really bad.

I felt good yesterday and set up the camera and played. The following are two videos from that session. The first is very long, and includes all strings i felt were good, and everything that was sick. The second is half in length, and gets right to the point and just has the bigger stuff. For people limited on download time/only want sickness, please download the smaller one. If you really like my game, and want to see some decent strings along with the good stuff, then take the time to download the large version.

If you feel it is worthy of a comment, please make one. Posotives and negatives help equally.

Hey Dave,

I'm lookin forward to gettin home to watch some of your sickness. Everyone has slumps, so don't worry, EVEN I have slumps. Just remember to be glad you've got what you've got, and every bad session, was good for the experience.

I'm don't remember how far you are from Pittsburgh, but I think we should organize a small shred. I know Caleb and Jake wanted to have an actual event, but I'm just talkin bout a 1 or 2 day thing that is very unofficial. WV crew could come up, you could come over also, anybody else that is close could join for some shred. I know Josh gayhart is pretty close to Pittsburgh also. What do you think ? I'm pretty busy with school and work, that and money problems, but I think 1 weekend sometime would be worth the sacrifice.
