Making footbag a club
Making footbag a club
hey everyone, me and my friends are trying to make footbag a club in my school. I was wondering if anyone else has done this in their schools and if anyone has any tips so that we can make this a reality. Anything would help...

Yeah, I'm trying to, too.
But there's some weird thing that the teacher's have against Footbag
When I told my Gym tearcher I wanted to go pro, he laughed and said "playing footy sack is a complete waste of time anyway, let alone dedicating enough time of your life to it, to become pro. Its not a sport its a dumb game for stoners"
I almost cried
I guess I'll just have to get Pimpske to visit my school!

Anyway one of the more optimistic teachers said that it would be easier to make it a (...) shit, I forgot what it's called, but it's basically like clubs done only durring lunch, and it's only for sports.

I think you should do it. Try talking to your teachers and see if any one of them will become an advisor to the club. I'm sure you have at least one cool teacher who will sit down and do nothing and watch you kids kick it. Maybe try saying you'll do some sort of fund raiser or something and make it a legitamite school club, like Spanish club or chess club.

Surfing, Skateboarding, wake boarding, sky diving . . .
these are all professional sports someone laughed at.
Chema, You could always throw the low blow and say something like .. .
"So, when you were a kid, didn't you have bigger aspirations than to be a gym teacher? I always thought that was a job for people who either lacked commitment or the abilities to persue their dreams. Are you qualified to evaluate my dreams ? I think we need to have a chat with the principle and discuss this. Ruining my self esteem now could affect me for the rest of my life. Shall I set up the appointment or would you prefer to do that ? "

I like the 'low blow' Tsiangkun, but I think my Gym teacher was the star of his college football team, and almost played NFL or something
Although I could get him with the self esteem thing, yesterday he yelled at two boys for giving eachother a hug, so I coughed "homophobe", and he said "Why are you such an idiot!?!"
Anyway, yeah I think with persistance I could get a teacher to host our club. Hey, there was this one guy today who said he use to kick a lot!! when he was young, and he said he likes to watch us kick during lunch, but I think he works in th office so I don't know if he can host the club... maybe

"almost" played NFL?! who gives a rat's arse! that doesnt gve you the right to piss on other people's aspirations, and sexualitites. NFL? thats not even real football, hey ive got an idea lets wrap each other in ridiculous amounts of padding then repeatedly run into each other! oh yeah one or two of us can catch and throw and kick, but the rest of aren't to display any fine motor skills whatsoever unless it's to obnoxiously celebrate scoring with unsportsmanlike grandstanding. You want football, watch some Rugby Union, or better still some Gaelic football, or some Aussie Rules! <disclaimer: I actually don't mind american footbag and having played some, find it quite enjoyable - i just like to rant and point out how easy is it to make anything seem crap>
Sorry I got a little carried away there. Back to a construcive response to the question at hand - it may be helpful to make some sort of info pack for your teachers explaining what footbag is - how its different from what they know as "hackey sack" - etc. It may help overcome small minded Gym teachers, as well as show an impressive level of dedication and initiative.

Hey man, don't diss on the NFL. If you take a look at how long those dudes last in that sport and how intense it is, you'd realize how kick ass it is to drink a beer, fire up the grill, and watch twenty four people duke it out on the grid iron every Sunday...or Monday...or sometimes Thursdays...sorry, I love to watch football. Playing football is something else, though.

It is pretty c-throat soft to wear so much padding to play football but it would be sad if those big boys got bruised shins or something...
It sucks that you're teacher is such a c-throat but I guess you should think of it as another challenge in the sport to push past. Getting Penske to come by and do a demo would really help things I think. I've found that a lot less people talk down footbag now that my skills are fairly good then they did when I started playing.
How official does your club have to be? Do you need school approval? Can you just organise to meet at a particular time and place every week? Obviously getting some kind of approval would be nice but getting something going would be really good too.
Good luck.

Unofficial clubs are great, but a couple years ago my schools footbag club got about $100 in funding!!!
It was just a matter of talking to the student administration and showing them it was more than just circle kicking. I don't know how your student government works, but for a club to be legit in my school you need one teachers signature and the approval of one of your fellow students in the administration.
Maybe it work for us because we had a ton of members and the school had 2500 people.

i asked a teacher in my school and they said i need 20 signatures...done..i need a teacher as an advisor...shouldnt be too hard to find one... and i need to write a report about our objectives, goals, and benefits of having a freestyle footbag club. If anyone could help me out wid the report part that would be fantastic.
Hm...I'd say the "objective" would be to kick as much mad hack as possible to provide an alternative to other school sports for those who aren't into football, basketball, baseball, etc... As for a "goal," see if you can set up a fundraiser to sport an event [put down a low goal like raising $100 or something] that might or might not be sponsored by the school; if it's a school sanctioned activity, then it'd probably be sponsored by the school. I suppose "benefits" would be that footbag is a less pressure "sport" [I say "sport" because footbag would probably be an alternative like intermurals or something; be sure to mention if you had a jam that players from the country would attend to better the playing atmosphere] because the people who would participate have less to fear than they would if they were to try out for basketball, for instance. The big benefit would be that kids in the club can kick footbag!
