how do you feel about the word -"sucks"
do you guys think it is vulgar to say the word sucks.
I was thinking about it and i think its a pretty bad word.
When you say that somebody "sucks" you are implying that that person sucks dick.
It could be interpreted as demeaning or even homophobic.

hmm interesting thought. I think Carl might be right - at least that it refers to sucking dick. I did a bit of research and couldn't really find another explenation. Still I think it's such an long standing word that it really has developed past that meaning into just being a negative. I also think it would be a bit of a fallacy to say that gay men are the only people who suck dick...

yeah but when you say something sucks thats what you are inferring -it doesnt mean sucking lemons. if somthing sucks it also blows.
This also made me think- saying "i got gypped" is racist cause they used to say that gypsy's used to rip people off.
and if you watch old cartoons and see how they use the term "cottin pickin" that is a refference to slavery i think.
Family Matters DID NOT suck. What you gotta problem with a sitcom depicting an upper middle class black family CFAN!?!?!?!?!

I feel that the word 'sucks' isn't really vulgar. I suppose someone could see it as a demeaning word, but as someone already said, it's supposed to be that way. But, when I say "my footbagging sucked today," I'm not saying I suck the cock, it's just another word for not being up to par. This is my opinion anyway. Or another example is when something has gone completely wrong, a lot of people say "this sucks." Of course, I've met a few people who share your same views on the nature of "suck," so you're not the first one I've heard think this.

i know, i started this thread as a joke...well as half a joke. I was thinking that a lot of people say the word "sucks" without realizing that they are really saying sucks dick. I thought that maybe it could be found offensive to gay men and demeaning to women who suck cock I was wondering that if i made a thread about it if people would get upset and ban the word "sucks" that would be funny- if no one was allowed to say sucks here anymore. come on lets Ban the word sucks!

If swear words would be taken literally, most of them would come off
to harsh, and i'm not too sure if sucker really, or originally refers to
sucking veiny cock .
I dont know why, probably its because english is only my second
language, but i always related that word to "suckling"=baby and
i found it being used mostly, when somebody acts really immature
or stupid. So when someone says "sucker" i automatically see a grown
up who's helplessly sucking his own thumb in the face of failiure
or stress, not a cock smoking gay person.
Actually if the constellation is good, the whole process of dick sucking
can be a pleasant thing - i guess this is the time to tell my girl what a
sucker she is - so even if "sucker" refers to oral sex, its pretty twisted to
use it as a swear word.
Using a sexual practice metaphorically as an insult is weird, because
it would imply that this certain sex technique is "bad" , and when its only
referring to two men, who do the sucky suck, and that allusion makes
the word "suck" an insult, it would be weird too, because that would
imply gay people are "bad"...
You see where this is going - nowhere !
So i guess analyzing swear words is only useful in some cases, like
the example with"gypped", but personally i am very indifferent to
the origins of cuss words.

u said veiny cock. lol
look ill settle it.. whether it means sucking lemons or "veiny cock" - it sure isnt a discriptive depictive explanatory adjective. so whether its vulgar or not, its unintillegent. if its unintelligent then it doesnt really matter if its gay or not
So. heres an example:
This topic sucks!
becomes
This topic is a waste of bandwidth and should be stricken from the record.
See, whether it was sucking cock or sucking lemons, it was still a stupid minded thing to say when I could further clarify my point/reasoning.
People that say suck, do suck. Thats's all there is to it.
SUCKS TO BE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you ever really want to offend a girl, call her a cunt. It's one of the few swear words that hasn't been overused to the point of acceptability.
Better yet, "a fucking cunt". That adds some extra nastiness too it which is exactly what this world needs more off.

Black is a bad word these days? I knew that they were stereotyped, but that's pretty bad.slapdash21 wrote:seriously.
