Are any of you footbag nerds, also Star Trek nerds?
I never watched any Star Treks but I just started watching The Next Generation on Spike TV. I must say its an awsome show. I can see how people geek out over it. Data is hillarious.

Yeah, it's an amazingly well done show. Voyager was really good as well...DS-9, not so much, but it had its moments.

I'm also completely into Stargate SG-1. That series is incredible.

I used to watch the Next Generation when I was a kid. I never was a big Trekkie, but Picard kicks ass! I didn't really like Voyager or Deep Throat Nine...erm, Deep Space Nine.

I used to be a real big Star Trek geek. I have, like, 50 of the action figures, plus the shuttlecraft Goddard and the teleporter (my friend had the Next Generation bridge, and I had the cardboard collectible Kirk-era bridge).

I got into comics and drawing when my brother took me to the 25-cent basement of a comic shop to buy Star Trek comics, and at first I would only buy Star Trek...

I still like it a lot, but my favourites are the original movies -- those were so amazing!!! I don't think I liked the Next Generation movies too much. I remember loving Star Trek Generations, though. I haven't actually watched anything for years, though. I like Star Wars a lot more, but I'm not a HUGE fan of either.

is the original StarTrek any good? I think they air it on the Sci Fi chanel but im not sure when its on. Im gonna see if they have any dvd sets of it.

I've never been a fan of Star-Trek, but I just watched the futurama episode last night where Fry finds out that Star-Trek was banned long ago because the cult fans turned it into a religion that pretty much became widly accepted...until some other power/religion killed many of the worshippers and burned all sources of star trek and sent the originals to a far away planet...and to enter that planet was of course illegal... except Fry had to retrieve those episodes and movies to show the world what they were missing...

Off-topic? Perhaps. None-the-less, I think thats the best ever episode of Futurama, which is saying quite alot. It could also be the best ever parody of Star Trek, which is also saying quite alot.

Carl, I'm curious which episode you happened to catch on t.v. which prompted this thread.

Lastly, original Star Trek was both aweful and great. Like most other television shows, it was kind of hit-or-miss. One thing I've always loved about it, though, was the look of the show, the color-scheme. Its unlike anything else on t.v. that I can think of. Cheap and cheesy? Yes. But certainly unique in its appearance.

Yes, TOS is availible in DVD box sets, the last I checked they were very pricey though.

outsider- ive only been watching The Next Generation- the episode i saw that really got me into it was the one when Data was running the Sherlock Holmes program in the halodeck and professor Moriarty tried to escape from the halodeck and take over the ship... heh it seems like the ship is always getting taken over by somthing. But I really like any episode that involves the halodeck or that is centered around Data.

Word. Not so into the holodeck. Time-travel episodes are more interesting to me. We agree on Data though, he is the man, and episodes featuring him are generally much cooler than others. If you haven't seen much of TNG yet then I envy you for all the really cool stories revolving around him that you have yet to see for the first time. I was channel-surfing last night and caught an appearance of Brent Spiner (Data) on and old episode of Night Court. Its funny, he played a poor, dirty, unintelligent and unsophisticated hick.

Red Shred and I used to watch Trek late at night on TV in Colorado, back in the days before the first Shred Symposium. Dave Holton would make fun of us for it. He prefered Letterman and Conan O'B, and they were on at about the same time. I usually let Dave watch 'cause I'd already seen about every episode of Trek.

Actually, I watched the show for many years, on-and-off, without that much interest, and it really wasn't until I saw the final episode that I decided that the show was really good. That double-length episode kicked so much ass that I became more interest in the previous episodes as a result. Fortunately they ran re-runs for many years after the show wrapped up. Unfortunately, the final episode hinted at future greatness that the movies never lived up to. Alas...

I will say one good thing about the movies; the third one, Star Trek Insurrection, had a scene that featured kids playing a game like footbag. Essentially it was footbag, except that one kid clearly intentionally hit the ball with his elbow, and they used multiple balls around the circle, so it wasn't exactly a hack-circle, but it was close enough for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of the original series, but the original movies are a lot different -- SO GOOD! I think some of my favourite TNG episodes were of the holodeck and going back and fighting gangsters, or whatever, too! And anything with THE BORG! I always liked Geordi La Forge a lot, because he was in Reading Rainbow.

Stagate SG-1 is the real bomb though, even if they only have a few seasons left in em.
