Problems with Footbag addiction vs. Friends
*I didn't know where to put this so I took the safe route and put it here.*
I have a problem: at my school everyone knows me as 'the Footbag kid' because all I do is shred, and now its affecting my social life and my friendships. I just moved to Idaho from LA so I already have very few friends as it is. Recently I asked a girl to homecoming and she was totally flattered, but she already had a date with this kid, and as I was walking away her friends were like "haha, the hacky sack kid just asked you out! hahahaha," so I tried to play less during lunch and socialize more, but I just can't help but start shredding, so I decided to try and leave my bag at home, and that was no success. I just can't stop, what should I do?

lol, it took me an instant to understand the last post.
I am way obsessed with footbag personally. Given the choice of going out with friends or playing footbag I think most of the time I would choose footbag. Of course it depends on lots of factors and luckily most of the time I have time for both. Actually I make very very little effort to spend time with non footbaggers in general. I am proud of the fact that random people in supermarkets tell me that they think my "hacky sack" skills are amazing and I don't really have time for people who don't have time for footbag. I guess my life is fairly one dimensional at the moment - there is very little I care about beyond footbag (lots of things that interest me I guess though).
I guess I'm not the best person for this topic

bring lots of money to school and pay people to be ur friend.
i dunno dude. I never had that problem in school because most of my friends at least kicked. But now that i'm in college i lost that excitement of playing wherever and whenever i can. Now i set aside time in my schedule to play. It's really different and i like it alot more.
best advice i can give: just do whatever. If u try to be someones friend, most likely u won't have to great of a friendship. That's the way i've been trying to live my life: just letting things happen. It's alot less stressful and enjoyable.

I dont play during school, or even at school, but people know me for it and actually respect it, but then their are those people who think its gay, waste of time etc... Best idea is to find some other people who like to kick at your school, and find a teacher that thinks its interesting, and start a club. Dont shred during school, but after school.. People will still see you, the people that AREN'T interested are already on their way home and not with friends, so they wont sit there and make fun of you. And people that are interested will probably come and kick.

Don't let it phase you.
Be the 'hacky sack kid' if you need to be.
If people are going to hack shit on you for doing what you obviously love, well, screw them. They're obviously not good people.
I have only one good friend who doesn't play footbag. Anyone else who doesn't play footbag is generally an aquaintance... someone I know and will occasionally socialise with.
However, I have all of Modified and the BCS guys, and everyone from Ausfootbag who are all friends of mine. Too many to count!

yeah I was footbag james, hacky james, hacky sack james, I could give a fizz less. I think people actually think your cooler than them, they just don't want to admit it so they try to make fun of you. In the end, they just don't make sense and you are still busting out stuff they have never even seen before and
(for jeremy)
could never do ever, ever even if they tried, which would be pointless cause they could never ever do it

Why to go to the homecoming if you can shred instead? Could someone please explain this to me?
Hmm, I don't play at school because
A) It's too cold to wear shorts (and they look a bit funny)
B) I don't want to have the sweat odour for the rest of the day, cause THAT'S what really affects the social life.
Usually I choose shred instead of friends. Maybe because all my friends live like 6km from my place. I have a lot of friends I have good time with but no "best friends" that I'd be like peas and carrots all the time. And I'm happy that I can meet the friends at school and do my personal stuff like footbag at home as much as I want.
The things with girls isn't tricky for me either. The girl I'm really interested in lives in Germany and I'll see her again next summer. So dating causes me no problems with dating stuff.
I also consider the people that I've made through footbag as my friends, though I've met these people like once or twice. Many of you guys I've never even met but I still consider y'all as my friends at some level too.
Is it pathetic, that I don't think it's pathetic?

Meh, don't let it get you down. Kevin has already called me more obsessed with footbag than anyone he knows...the bastard.
Anywho, kids can be real bastards, so just ignore them. Find a crowd you can hang out with and a girl you can ask out that has friends that won't laugh at you for what you do. It might be a bit hard at first, but it'll come along. When you get to college, most people are lots nicer. I used to get lots of shit from my circle of friends (albiet, all of it was jokingly) about me learning footbag last year, but they're still my buds and are very supportive of the footbagging of Kevin and I. Remember, it's not what's on the outside that counts, blah, blah, blah. Okay, I'm done preaching now.

I'd say don't worry about it because you'll have the last laugh. While you are playing footbag everyday and exercising like crazy, they are probably on their butts at home or somewhere else watching t.v. or talking on the phone. So, you'll be healthier longer and live longer at that.
If the girl is truly interested in you, then she will respect that you like to play footbag a lot. If she doesn't like that you play footbag and it was a choice between her and footbag, I'd choose footbag because if footbag is something you love to do, no one who is a true friend would ever ask you to stop doing something you love.
Unless every time you played, you broke your leg, then it might be understandable....maybe.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Plus, the footbag never talks back to you or gets in a fight with you or smells funny in the morning...well, I guess it could smell funny in the morning, but at least it won't badmouth you.professor wrote:...it was a choice between her and footbag, I'd choose footbag because if footbag is something you love to do, no one who is a true friend would ever ask you to stop doing something you love.

My girlfriend complains about my smelly feet....actually now that I think about it, everyone complains about my smelly feet. I don't wear socks in my lavers.
