*could someone please give me a shovel cause I'm digging my blog up again*

9/2

Too long time since the last entry. Though I'm not sure if you others agree.
First of all, I've had a lot of things to do. I started lukio, i.e. Finnish version of high school and it starts when you're 16, I'm only 15 though until the next January.
Secondly, I believe I've never before played footbag so much than now after the Worlds. I've been trying to play whenever and as much as when I can. Too bad I had this ankle sprain again (healed already thank God of the footbag) and now I'm having a flu for three days. It's fortunately getting better.
Some new moves I've hit:

- Ducking Clipper (hit before but it's stronger now)
- Spinning Clipper (same with ducking clip)
- Blur (both sides)
- Whirl both sides, I was damn stoked when I finally hit it. :D I mean, I've been trying to hit at least for 6 months and last weekend I finally decided to get it done, i.e. I put some anger to the practising.
Then, on Monday I hit it. I just love the Whirling dex. It feels so good after what I've paid for it:
- a freaking big amount of hard practice
- one sprained ankle (yes, I was trying Whirl when I sprained it)
- a flu after the "hitting" (I shredded til my shirt was all wet and it was a bit cool weather).
I OWN IT NOW. :D
I even tried (only once though) very optimisticly PS Whirl - I skipped the Pdx Whirl :P - and in my opinion it can be done. Lots of skooling is needed for sure but I'm sure I'll be able to hit it.

I've also come close to Swirl, Gyro Mirage, Phoenix and Drifter. With Drifter my problem is the timing, my dex and hip pivot isn't very relaxed. Phoenix has been on my hit list for a long time too. First I had an OK pixie ducking set but I couldn't do the Butterfly well enough after the duck. Now it's the opposite cause I haven't been skooling pixie ducking very much. :D

Now I'm very anxious to get to shred again. I'll try to count the number of my shred sessions and mark if it was good, ok or bad and why. Stay tuned (though I'm not a top class shredder). :P

------------

We must do some "lecture" that has something (anything!) to do with music and then show it to the other class at the music lessons. I think I'll show them some music I like to shred with...or some footbag with music there on the background. 8)

------------

The Finnish Big Brother has started. I haven't watched the actual episodes but today watched an extra programme. IMveryhonestO it sucked and hard. It was really boring compared to some episodes of the British or the German versions I've seen. The sound technic was crappy, I couldn't hear at all what the people there were talking. And yeah, it was boring.

I've played two times.
1) BAD
"Yesterday the first session in a week! I had a flu but I'm ok again. Played only for 30 minutes because the 'touch' was a bit gone and I was busy with homework.
Highlights: - (I still could hit clipper... )

2) MEDIOCRE
"Played at school a little bit, some 11-12 years old kids watching and going 'wow' for infinities. Still trying to get the touch back."
Highlights: more publicity for footbag; a better session than yesterday.

I'll play today once more I think. My Felixbag has so many holes that I ordered an O'Sack32 from Antti "Olavi" Virolainen. I'll try to save the Felix for the routines.

I had one more session (3 is the total sum right now).

3) GOOD
It started to taste like shred now, finally. I had the infinities ok already, hit 16 with the best try, also skooled osis and hit my record which is now 7.
Also, I played some tiltless but hit some guiltless combos too. Whirls both sides again, though I have to check my technique cause right knee hurted a bit. I tried some pixie ducking too, getting better again.
Highlights: PLOx9 (dropped after the ninth) when my challenge is 10. :x Still a must-be-highlight; Osis x7; some good tiltless runs and ok guiltless combos; Whirls again.

Thanks for watching folks! :D
Yesterday was also a good day because I got to hear a lot more different kinds of music without changing disc all the time, thanks to the Finnish government owned youth radio station. They are going to kick people out of there and the workers had a "strike" from the 14.00 to 24.00, so there was no talking and other crap, only music! And because it's owned by the government there's no ads either.

Today a session more (4).

4) GOOD
Today it tasted like shred too, fortunately. Osis sucked but I hit Pixie Ducking pretty well after a very long time; also hit PLOx8. I wanted to play some tiltless more this time to get longer runs and develop my endurance. So I hit for example illusion>pickup>rpt>mirage>legover>rpt and bunch of other stuff. I <3 drills. Oh, and 32 infinities, though my record is 37. I did some Drifter-practice too and thought my Torque training style again and it's now better. What I now have to do is get them faster.
Highlights: Good tiltless, good mood. :D

Tomorrow will be more playing I hope.

Session yesterday.

5) (again) GOOD
Time: 1 h 15 min
Comments: I almost hit (illusion>pickup>rpt>mirage>legover>rpt)>RPT but dropped like the last mirage. :x Also hit - finally - Pixie Legover x10, drop on the 11th. The feeling wasn't that great, I didn't feel owning it like I felt after Ripwalks and Whirls, it was more like "at last!" -feeling.
Hmm...what else? Oh, pracised Torques again, slooooowly progressing. Drifters are coming a bit faster; I read the tip that the dexing foot should chase the bag when it's rising, that has helped me alot.
Highlits: One new challenge hit (PLOx10) and long tiltless runs
What sucked: I couldn't get my burned CD to play. "No disc" in my ass. What's even worse, all the songs are legal, copied from my own CDs or then free music from the internet (I've even asked the permission from the artist...)

Today no shredding, as soon as I had finished my homework we were supposed to go to some military music concert, but (thank God!) it was sold out and we went just to eat. And after that... 8O
My sister just got her driver's licence. The car was in a park hall. Everything's fine...til the gate: the scratch in the right back door could have been bigger though. :?
After that for the rest of the tripI squeezed my seat with both hands as tight as I could. Those were the longest 35 kilometres I've lived through so far. I almost kissed our kitchen floor when I was back - and safely - indoors at home.

Hopefully tomorrow Mouhijärvi will see some shredding again (though I'm shredding indoors in a place where actually no one could ever accidentally come :D ).

6) GOOD (I guess I only have good sessions nowadays... )

Time: About 2 hours, maybe not that much but almost
Comments: Started with completing the (illusion>pickup>rpt>mirage>legover>rpt)>RPT, in the end I also tried to hit it with starting mirage>mirage>mirage>legover>legover>legover>rpt and some infinities but I guess I was too tired already.
Thought it was a bad Whirl day 'cause first it seemed that I wouldn't hit a single sealed Whirl in the whole session. I ended up almost beesaucing it. :D
--> I hit right side Whirl and (for the first time) got an infinity after that. I was really stoked about it but pulled myself together, hit another infinity and the Whirl again (with the right side). Then I got one more infinity after that and tried left side whirl but dropped it.
I practiced Drifters and almost footed it for about half a dozen times. The hip pivot dex is getting faster.
Also noticed, that my right side stepping SUCKS and then I skooled it a bit.
Torques I tried a few times but I didn't feel that I'd have a "good" torque-day ("good" with the "-marks cause I haven't hit torque...yet).
Osis-skooling; the left osis is quite OK, I get it flat but right osis needs more practice.
Probably hit my ducking clipper record-->now x4.
Hmm, what else...I guess that was all I've got to say about my session.
Highlights: pretty long (toe) tiltless drills (I need to get more clipper there!), almost Whirl BSOS, footed Drifters
What sucked: NOT hitting Whirl BSOS, NOT hitting Drifters good, NOT even close to Torques.

The school's digital video camera is in use at the moment, but I'm sure I can borrow it in a few weeks and start shooting footage for my upcoming film.

7) REALLY GOOD

Time: 1h 15min - 1h 30min
Comments: Whirl BSOS! Linked with butterflies. It was a good whirl day for me, I've never 'em hit with so high percentage before.
I also literally laughed out loud cause I finally understood how the Torque should be done. No, I didn't unfortunately hit it yet, but realized that for the last year I've tried to take my osising foot over the bag too - now I see it shouldn't go over it. I'll be practising it to death this week.
Bad drifter day, didn't feel like hitting them.
Some +-20 contact tiltless runs, could've probably done even better but didn't give it so many tries.
I think I also got my right side stepping better than it was, now maybe even could call it stepping.
Highlights: BSOSing Whirl, discovering new technique to Torque
What sucked: Drifters, Osis (getting better slowly), NOT hitting that Torque

From now on when the weather is getting colder, I'll try to be a "parasite" at the students' floorball shifts in the school gym after school. :P Maybe someone'll get interested too...

Today just sucked if I think how my plans with doing sport turned out to be. :)
At school we had two hours sport, Finnish (= the real) baseball which as ever was me vs. one of friend cause actually nobody else there does nothing. :x
Then at home I decided that I'd go to jog first and then play some footbag. Now I see that I went to jog too early after dinner, which made the running heavy. Also I noticed that I should really start stretching because my legs were a bit "wasted" after yesterday's sesh and today's baseball.
I think I jogged like 3km, ridiculously small amount.
After that I thought I'd go to shred, but of course my ankles hurt after the small amount of running! :x ...and the legs still felt heavy.

Well yeah, maybe it was my body's way to tell me that it (I) needs to rest sometimes. Still I felt a bit disappointed cause I really wanted to shred. I'm not terribly ambitious to achieve glory in the competitions or anything, I just love to play footbag. :D

Hopefully tomorrow'll be a better day (considering the "Shred Factor").

-----------

I can't wait that the homepage building -course starts at school, because I'd like to make one for "Salmi FTBG", my club. Also I'm really eager to borrow the school camera to make some films I'd put there. Too bad it's in use at the moment...

8th) MEDIOCRE

Time: 1h
Comments: The day before this 8th session I couldn't actually shred, and it kinda affected my game even today too (I did some stretching but the legs still felt a bit heavy). It was a really mediocre session, definitely not good. I hit ok tricks, ok strings etc. but nothing impressive.
First I thought it'd be cool to hit all of my already hit challenges. It was cool no doubt, but I didn't go for the PLOx10 and stuff like that cause I didn't feel very fast.
Highlights: Hit the clip>infinity>whirl>infinity>whirl challenge again, footed Torque(!!!) and right side stepping was good (hope I'll hit Ripwalk x3 this week).
What sucked: The level of shred, heavy legs

Conclusion: I need to stretch more for the faster recovery after the sessions. :D

Today's programme will probably be a little jog first and then shredding - hope I won't make the same mistakes as on Tuesday.

-------------

I'm confident that at least on Mondays I can stay for a little shred after school during this floorball shift. I also registered myself as a candidate for the youth parliament of the municipality of Mouhijärvi - this'll give me another good reason to stay near the gym after school, there's a 12km distance to the gym from my home (that is, of course, if I get elected. ).

Maybe take a two or three day rest? Try longer stretches and the like. I did my old Army stretches all the way through recently and I had one of the best, if not the best, shred sessions of my life. Drinking about a quart of water an hour helps a lot, too. Props on footing the torque. Hopefully you'll seal it next time. :o

Thanks for the advice, Sam, but 2-3 days rest is way too much. :D I'm too stoked to shred at the moment, though the last ones haven't been top class. I did some more stretching than usual after yesterday's session and I'm anxious to get to shred at the moment.
I don't know how much a "quart" is but I drink about 1 liter per hour.

Anyone know some good back stretches? I don't have pain but I notice when I shred that I should stretch it.

Anyways, a little description about the yesterday sesh:

9th) GOOD - (minus)

Time: 1 hour
Comments: I can't actually remember all what I did yesterday... At least I did some Whirls, practicing on Torques and Drifters, also tried the challenges from Anssi: Blurry Clipper>rpt with no plants, Stargate drill and Ducking Butterfly x4. I didn't go for that Pdx Whirl though.
I noticed that I've got to get my ducking butters better, the stall could be better.
I hit nothing new, but it felt already better than yesterday.
---
I play in an old "cowshed" (there've been no animals in decades though) - no warming, no ventilation what so ever. Even the windows cannot be opened. So it's quite warm there occasionally. Yesterday I played the last few minutes without T-shirt (the outdoor temperature was something like 5°C!) and if someone had come in they would have thought "that son Jaakkola must be crazy; always kicking that little ball - without shirt!". :)
Highlights: Better session than yesterday...
What sucked: ...though this one wasn't top class either. :?

Today's plans: More shred of course, stretching too.

A quart is 32 fluid ounces, which is just shy of 1000 mL, so you're fine on the H2O.

As for a back stretch, the best one that I've found so far that works for me is the one where you pull your leg over like you're going to sit cross-legged, keep the opposite leg stretched out, then use the opposite arm (same side that your leg is out) and push out with that arm. You might feel a few pops in your back. Keep the stretch for about 10-15 seconds, then switch. I hope you know what I'm talking about because I suck at wording stretches. This stretch works fairly well in conjunction with the hip flexor stretch.

Yeah, that'd be cool. :D I'll only have to check when my autumn holidays actually are...

Actually I do that stretch occasionally but seems I should do it more often. :) And yes, I know that wording the stretches sucks, especially if English isn't your first language.
Right now I should stretch my shoulders...

10) GOOD

Time: 45 min
Comments: Feels better again. I hand-catched Torque and even hit butterfly>Torque>hand catch. It's still too crappy to hit something out of it.
Some Ducking Butterfly skooling and tried some of the Anssi's challenges (ok, they still need more time :) ).
Then I hit some about 20 contact tiltless runs, tried to avoid drilling but still use both sides 50-50 %.
Nothing special, but felt good.
Highlights: Torque hand-catched
What sucked: Still not top class.

Today's plans: a bit running and then shred!

I've ordered an O'sack aka Virppabag aka a bag made by Antti "Olavi" Virolainen. He said yesterday that it'll probably be ready this weekend and he'll send it to me right away. Good service, he said that I could pay after I've got the bag. Though I haven't even got his account number and I'm pretty sure he hasn't got my address.
Anyways, a new bag is a bueno thing for me, my about-5-months-old Felix is quite "patched" with glue and I'd like to save it to the competitions. :)

Wow, yesterday was a good day! First I ran 6km and it felt nothing. Then I had a nice session after it. :)

2005-9-17
11th) GOOD+

Time: about 1h
Comments: First it seemed that this would be an ok session, but after 10 minutes it felt really different. Like hitting Drifter with flipside too. And hitting Torques again. And bee-saucing Whirls again. And hitting Osis x7 (drop after the 8th). The Drifters and Torques are quite unsure but they'll get better.
I tried DLOs only a couple of times because my groin "was against it". :D
So basically I almost hit three new challenges (Drifter BS, Torque BS, Osis x10), though I'm really happy about the two new ones too.
Also did some practising with the links in the 8-tripless challenge by Anssi, hit at least Blur>Dimwalk link. Then I skooled some Ripwalks and Ducking Butterflies too.
Highlights: Torque BS, Drifter BS, Osis x7
What sucked: Actually nothing, could've been better session though. :D

Today's plans: Probably no shredding, cause my cousin has his first birthday and were going there.

-------

I noticed that after I recovered from the flu I've played every day (after the 5th of this month) except two days, the 9th and the 10th. :)

My autumn holidays are on 21.-24. of October, when are yours, Anssi?

Nice work on Blur > Dimwalk! Try to make it Ripwalk > Blur > Dimwalk! :D

Our holidays are at the same dates. It would be really cool if you and maybe some people from Espoo and Helsinki would come over here for a day or two! We need to discuss about it on msn.

Well... you would already have that bag if I did not have that matriculation exam on next Wednesday. I try to send it on Friday at last like I said. BTW call me just Olavi. Antti "Olavi" Virolainen sounds a bit dumb don´t you think?

I hope too that I've improved at least a bit since the last time I was in Turku. :D That was kinda sad cause I couldn't even do consecutive infinities.

OK Anssi, I'll go try that Ripwalk>Blur>Dimwalk link after I've written a couple of posts here (addict  ).

Two sessions since the last entry.

Tuesday 2005-9-19
12th) GOOD-

Time: 1h
Comments: Too long time since yesterday, can't really remember what happened. :) Really, I remember nothing but the thing that it was a "good-" session!
Highlights: ???
What sucked: they took my memory, those bastards...

ok, today on Wednesday I had a little shred at school too, but I'll just write about the shredding after the school.

Wednesday 2005-9-20
13th) GOOD

Time: 1h
Comments: Hit Drifters again, though they are still really weak (both sides!). I hit probably my Ripwalk record - 3 (drop on the set of the 4th). Then I trained mostly some Blurs and Ducking Butterflies, even tried Phoenix for a couple of times (no success though). A few Torques fit in too, as well as a couple of Whirls but I didn't train these two ones really much.
Oh right, I did some tiltless "routine practising" - can't really say so - with Doctor Who in the Tardis. :D In my opinion it went pretty good with the rhythm, till the drop after a bit over ten contacts. :P I won't use that song in my routines or in vids, though it's pretty good.
Highlights: Ripwalk record, improvement with other tripless tricks
What sucked: could've been better, as always

Today's other plans: Go to bed.
