KICKASS!!!!
Jan Zimmerman was telling me about a recent olympics where they gave out thousands of condoms to the athletes and they ended up not having enough to keep up with demand for more. HA! Party yo. Don't tell me alcohol had nothing to do with that one. Anybody interested in throwing a more "serious" footbag event should go get there own fucking sponsors and do it however they want to do it. As it is footbag has always been low key and most players don't mind it staying that way. It sounds like Tom is doing a great job so far. GOOD JOB! Don't let anybody take the wind out of you sails. Like I said if somebody wants to get Gatorade or whatever to give them money and they do some ultra-proffesional T.V. spot on ESPN or some shit then that's great to and there will be a number of players who would love to take part. Just let people do what they want to do. If you don't like it then don't take part.

Wouldn't someone taking the time to find sponsors and putting all this effort to host such an awesome tournament show that he or she is interested in doing everything they can for this sport? are you saying that Tom is not interested and doesn't care about footbag enough to make it happen dave? because i'd completley disagree

I agree with Ahren. It sounds like Tom is doing a KICKASS job for KICKASS!
With footbag as underground as it is, I'd think any sponsor would be better than none.
Hey Tom, how much is a Mosher bag?

I will try to have alot of them ready to sell.
Hey everyone, thanks for the support. I will do a killer job of this and it will be a great event despite it being sponsored by a bong shop.

I'm torn on the issue.
A sponsor of Worlds 04 was El Zaz bar. That had absolutely no effect on the sport's reputation, and many professional athletes in other sports drink heavily but nobody thinks twice about it. It's not fair that pot carries the negative stereotype that it does and acts to de-legitimize footbag. But that's an issue of ignorance and hypocrisy within society and not the fault of footbag players. Ideally, people shouldn't give a damn about what drugs an athlete takes as long as they aren't giving them an unfair advantage (weed and alcohol can only put you at a disadvantage anyway).
On the other hand, we are already subject to prejudice against our sport and it's our responsibility to take care of our image.
Dave made the most important point here. Parents not letting their kids participate in "stoner" actvities should be a big concern. Look at the age group of most of our newer players. The next world champion will be younger than Vasek. This group of people is just too important to alienate.
I could go back and forth all day on how I feel about this. If a parent is concerned that their kid will start smoking pot just because their friends do, then they should be better parents. But then again, I wouldn't have been allowed to go to my first couple of tournaments if my mom knew that ANYONE would be smoking.
I think that the headshop sponsor is fine, as long as its kept under wraps. But that might not be possible, so maybe just make it clear that they're a sponsor because they sell footbags, not because they sell bongs.

Hey Nate, do me a favor and go in the other room and ask your parents who sponsored the last 3 events they took you to, and what kind of places they are.

I've been counting the days, it's gonna be off the hook! The past few nights I've had dreams of being at footbag tourneys, and when I wake up the first thing I think is... KICKASS is in a few weeks!!!!
What are the plans for lodging the hordes of footbag players about to descend on Kingston?? I think we almost have enough people to create a bitchin' shanty town. Almost. And there's still time left. Tom--if anyone has the power to get every single footbag player in the world to come to an event, it's you.
And I didnt mean to contribute so much to the hijack back there... started off as like 2 sentences and the I got carried away.
apologies

i believe matt is driving, and i probably will too because of the number of people going. it would definately be uncomfortable to have you, pat, willie, me, chris, matt, and aric all in one car

for some reason i was thinking that kingston was like 6 hours away from my house. But mapquest says its only 4.5 hours. Thats just about an hour longer drive then rochester. So maybe We'll just drive up ourselves...hmm...ill have to do some pondering and figure out how much money ill have.
