Minimum price for a 32 facile bag?!

Post by DoctorJay »

In my opinion it would be a good thing if all stitchers would negotiate a minimum price for a handstitched facile 32 panel bag.

What do you think ?

In my opinion no bag should be sold under 25 Euros/ 30 $.

I don't agree. Stitchers have the right to ask what ever price they choose.

It sorta comes down to how little people are willing to work for.

I am not sure how much 25 euros is but I would assume that it's around $25 US or $20 Canadian which is basically the standard these days.

If you consider that it takes 2-4 hours to make a bag plus however much it costs for the material anything from $25-40 makes sense.

But there should be no minimum, maximum or regulation.

[I do understand however, I wouldn't sell for less than 20 or 25 USD personally]

i would say it should be up to the sticher,if someone wants to sell his bags for 5 bucks, then u cant realy stop him!and i think the average price is between 25 and 30 usd, wich is now 20 to 25 euro, for a good footbag, and i think we dont need any regulations on that!

Yes I used to sell my bags for 15€. Now I´m raising it gradually to 20€. There´s a lot of work and 15€ isn´t really worth it but I try to sell my bags according to how they play and look. And you don´t want to lose customers because you sell overpriced shit, right?

I think that´s the main point, every stitcher should think what they would pay for their own bag if they would buy one and not to look on what price other stitchers are selling. There really should not be any standard.

I think that if stitchers negotiated a minimum price, there would also have to be a minimum quality that must be met by all stitchers.

I'm thinking about something... and there is a very high chance it has something to do with footbag.

Around four hours.(yeah I know it´s a bad €/h)

There really can´t be minimum quality level, else starting stitchers would just give up. That´s why there can´t be a minimum price neither.

I sell my bags to Hobart footbag club members for $30 AUD which is almost exactly $23 USD or 19 Euro. That's a discount price though and I no longer really sell outside of Australia. My typical price is $40 aud = $31 USD or 25 Euro. That's including postage. My rates were slightly higher for overseas but I actually made less profit due to postage and it seemed silly to sell bags overseas when people can buy bags just as good from local stitchers so I've stopped.

The stitcher should sell at a low price that's entails the cost of the product and the time it took to make the product to gain a profit off of it that makes both buyer and seller happy. This is also referred to as market equilibrium, which is when the buyer has bought all they want and the seller has sold all they want. Market equilibrium = everyeone's happy. Sorry, I just felt like ranting about ME because it's one of the only things I remember from micro econ 101 last year.

Every sticher is well below market equilibrium.

Lets say it takes 4 hours a bag, cutting, stitching, and filling.

$15/hr for skilled labor * 4 hours = 60 USD

Except the value in the bag is related to how well it plays, so , some people make bags worth $60, and some bags are only worth $5.

Exactly, I´d happily take +50€ for work but as you said, the most important factor determining value is how the bag plays.

I agree. people who stitch don't do it because it is an quick and easy way to make money.

To have "market equilibrium" stitchers would have to employ uneducated workers from countries nobodys heard of to get the price down.

You could add another $5 or so to that price to include material and fill cost. ultrasuede is expensive.
