If you are having problems just setting it, perhaps you are worrying too much about the dexing motion. Try just setting the bag upwards and getting your dexing leg off the ground-- don't even attempt to go around the bag. What you're trying to do is make sure you can set the bag and put yourself in a position to be able to dex. Hope that helps.

Must have been said a million times like a lot of other things but initially its not about speed. Untill you start doing harder moves its more about timing and control.SyLaTAC wrote:I cant get my leg to move fast enough lol
Also very true, never give up or think thats impossible. I hate that I basically did this in high school before I got more serious at footbag. We saw a few vids and thought damn thats impossible and never tried doing much more. I was more into it than most but still we were basically limited to inside, toe and outside stalls and kicks, jesters, butterflys, wraps and things like that. When I wanted to get serious I picked up a lot of things quickly so make sure u try and dont give up.

one thing i started off doing is just do alot of ATWs...both legs and when they start to feel comfrontable to where you can do them uptime and whatnot start setting them with opp leg and then bring your other leg around and do a ATW...thats prolly the most info i can give you on doing them.

When I first learned legover last year when I first kicked with MFA, I randomly hit it after about a half hour. At first, I found it easier to set the bag and make a little hop (around mid-time). Later on after my legs got stronger, I began to learn to plant instead of hop. I'm not the best one to tell advice, but this is how I learned my legovers and I found it pretty useful.

Get used to it cause this is the key trick to training, Watch 100s of videos and you will hardly notice this trick exist but any seasoned player will tell you that this aside from clipper is the most important trick to drill, When somone wants to learn fairy they fall back and train with out to in ATW, when you want to be able to do a pickup fast enough out of a duck or to do a paradox pickup you will school IN to out ATW and exct
Doing this trick repeatevly will gurantee you uber leg strength control and speed.
aside from this tip and the tip about setting straight up i got 2 more things to add
BOTH SIDES (get used to hearing this) and stomp. meaning the second you set the footbag stomp that foot down as quickly as possibly the quicker you stomp down the more time you have to smoothly dex.
This advice is universal to all the 2 adds,
set straight, stomp, dex. and if your dex feels to slow even after stomping and a nice set then fall back and school those ATWS.
good luck and school hard

I don't do ATWs with plant, though it may be easier in the beginning if you're balance isn't that good. With the plant I'd call it "ss legover" (=out-in dex) or "ss pickup" (=in-out dex).tuomoruutufan wrote:BOTH SIDES (get used to hearing this) and stomp. meaning the second you set the footbag stomp that foot down as quickly as possibly the quicker you stomp down the more time you have to smoothly dex.
Timing is crucial. The dex itself doesn't have to be that fast if you prepare for the dex fast enough.

When i was saying plant that i didnt mean that with atw.
The other plus with learning atws both sides is you learn how to balance yourself well
With legover i would suggest to always plant before starting your other your other dex
I know somone who does the legover like all up time style and i really think it hinders the development of future tricks. IMO i mean i dont know as much as some of you other people.

I think different styles of legovers help with different tricks. The "hop and up/peaktime" legover leads to atomic sets and paradons (maybe more) - in many ways it also helps with a whole range of other moves - even furious sets (with the idea that the force of jumping and dexing sets the bag) and with stuff like dlos and eggbeaters.tuomoruutufan wrote:I know somone who does the legover like all up time style and i really think it hinders the development of future tricks. The all downtime way helps with component legover moves - pixie legover, spinning legover, ducking legover etc. Also I'd say it's important for dlos and eggbeaters as well. It also probably really helps with double atw.
So basically being able to hit a move in more than one style will help to build your game in more directions. There may or may not be a "best" way to hit a normal legover - but the other methods will still help your game even if they're not the technically best way of hitting the move (just like planting on pdx whirls will help your spinning whirls even though many people frown on planting on a pdx whirl).
I think most of the tips for legover have been covered - really it's just about practice and thinking about what should happen (and what you're doing wrong). I am sure that if you're patient and dedicated you'll be able to master legover soon. If you have somebody to play with who can hit legovers consistantly - try to really make the most of them and learn as much as you can. I am sure that if I played with you in person I could get you to hit a legover in 30 minutes but it's much harder learning from the internet (I know - I did - I could hit 6 add moves before I ever got to play with anybody - so learning on the internet is possible - it's just not very efficiant)

Yeah dan AKA pornstar got me to hit my first legover in 30 minutes
so i would definately agree with finding someone to teach you by example
also go to www.flipsider.com go to the practice room and find the video
There you will be able to watch a tricks in motion frame by frame using the arrow keys on your keyboard. This has really helped me with osis, whirl, and clipper
Thanks for the explanation jeremy i wasnt thinking about it like that i was more thinking that its just a goofy looking way to do a legover. I will try and see if i can do that.

Yes. Any time you circle your leg with the bag it is considered a dex.
Here's Job's notation:
SET > OP OUT [DEX] > SAME TOE [DEL]
The reverse of a Legover is Pickup, which is:
SET > OP IN [DEX] > SAME TOE [DEL]
Here's a link to footbag.org of various other 1-add, 2-add and up tricks.
