sesh sunday @ jonquil. very tired. didn't play well.

Yesterday:
Sesh with Kamil @ Wright College. The spot was pretty nice. There were many hot chicks walking by. Arrrrgh! I miss college. We saw this girl from Lane we used to kick with. She kicks well; hope to see her again. I saw my old teacher and an old high school friend. We got some people watching, let one guy kick my footbag.

I'm glad Kamil can play. when i first heard that he hurt his knee again, I thought he'd be out for a while, but we have kicked ~3 times together recently. he's taking it easy which is good. Nice ducking osis, and stepping getting there. his hand is gonna hurt soon - once he hits it and i give him a five.

I hit a bunch of long strings. It felt awesome. Just ducks (which I can do now), pixie/stepping op/same butter/mirage, DODs, and double leg overs. Shit I can do. But it was really consistent. Spinning clippers have allowed me to hit some gyro mirages mid string, and an east gyro pickup and legover. DOD practice let me hit BLURRIEST again. I have hit it before a while ago but a little flukishly. Also:
Bedwetter
The cleanest smoothest ripstein ever!
Mobius
torque>torque - finally. I have always wanted to hit this combo.

I was trying this combo: eggbeater>double leg over>eggbeater. It looks really fancy and feels like gravy. I didn't hit it, but I can. I also got hella close to the combo I've been wanting to hit forever: whirl>swirl>whirling swirl

Kamil gave me some tips after trying mobius and blurriest. Basically to slow down. The next try, I followed his advice, and booge - hit the move! For both moves.

20 ducking clips BS (40)
20 spinning clips BS (40)
20 drifters BS (40)
20 torques BS (40) !!!*
20 flip eggbeaters

*Never have I done so many torques b4. I got a good grasp on how to hit them on my weak side. Set closer, lift knee higher, start osis lower and sooner and straighter. At first, i was really tired after 2 torques, but then i started doing them more efficiently, and I could do 4 b4 getting tired.

The flip eggbeaters were killing me. I've never done that many flip b4. i was dying - especially after all those torques. I wanted to stop after 5 and 10, but I kept pushing.

I can hit mobius now. Not flukishly. I did it the other day. Since I've been practicing my spinning clips. The only thing now, I use my flip torque. if my bad spin gets a little better I can mobius with my good torque!

~~
I'm happy about New Year's Jam this year. Since we're getting involved now, I think it will be awesome! Already Mike, Emily and Jeremy are coming (I think :? ). We're gonna work hard on getting the michigan peeps out, the wisconsin peeps, and cloud 9 , and perhaps some big names! Not to mention some of the ideas we have about fun things to do when we're there.

Tim is coming Sunday! Yay! I hope he actually comes. I never seee him no more. I guess he was getting back into footbag, but he hurt himself last time he came to a jam.

My abshire is beraking in well. I found the Emmings bag we won from WV. I haven't played with it yet, but it feels ultra tits!

Good sesh at Lane today. There were so many people there!

Kamil and I played alone mostly. people joined in, which is great because mostly they only wanna play 4 square, but we came to shred hard (no bullshit) and too many people came in the circle, so we started a new one.

We used the emmings bag for the first time; it's tits! I thought of drifter>spinning something this morning and hit it this afternoon (>spin clip). My strings are getting more consistent. For a long time my practice was just getting me better at single moves, but notw I see it helps me keep the bag up. I syill do alot of the same moves, but more of them and linked differently.

I wonder what I look like when I play. It's hard to judge style from your own eyes. I haven't seen video in a while. I'm not vain, I just hope I don't look like shit - no style. I hope that my moves aren't "short and choppy." I don't think so.

Zeke joined in the circle and was on fire. He hit pdx legbeater?>pdx drifter. Aside from that, nice strings!

Actually it was atomic same clipper (w/ no plant)> pdx drifter. I have hit that combo you mentioned, but not in years. Makes me wish I had shred more today. I did the oddest thing, I played 6 square and was one point away from winning... then just stopped to freestyle.

I decided to step it up a little (go Double!):

40 ducking clips BS (80)
40 flip swirls
40 spinning clippers BS (80) - Flip side getting good. Just gotta set straight up.
40 flip whirls
40 flip paradons
40 flip eggbeaters

I did the paradons and eggbeaters in sets of 10. They are a damn workout.

I attempted flip blurriest for the first time. I couldn't get a good one. It's amazing how bad my flip paradon used to be. A little practice has made it feel pretty natural, thus allowing me to try blurriest. i almost got every paradon. Only missed occasionaly.

Flip Eggbeaters: I set closer and higher, and then start the 2nd dex sooner, and I get that bitch. I had to try lots of these, missed lots. Pressed for 40.

I just had a random thought:

What if instead of being graded or tested by teachers the exams/grades would be give by some exam board. In this way, the teacher could also be evaluated by how well he prepared the students for the exams. This would provide incentive for the teacher to teach well (which is lacking quite often. I'm speaking of college). This way it is class against the board instead of students against teacher ("against" is meant in a hostile way).

Of course this depends on the aim of the school. If the teacher sucks, but is still getting lots of research money, then they won't be likely to fire/pressure him if he sucks at teaching.

hit 13 BS
neighbor kid wanted to play, so I played with him. I really wanted to do 40, but oh well.

22SEP2005
no playing. went out with woman.

23SEP2005
40 swirls BS (80) Flip swirl much more consistent
40 spinning clips BS (80)
40 blenders BS (80) - really fun. blenders are awesome. i'm gonna do more today (24th)

24SEP2005
9am: handstands, pushups 20x4, tricep pushups 20x4, stretch legs in btwn.
40 swirls BS
23 blenders BS, then stopped cuz it started to rain

25SEP2005

NADA

26SEP2005
40 swirls BS
40 ducking clippers BS
40 spinning clippers BS
40 blenders BS
2 ripsteins

stepping clipper>blender BS
swirls getting much better on flipside

27SEP2005

40 swirls BS
40 ducking clippers BS
40 blenders BS
40 spinning clippers BS

tried some pdx miraging sets. tried some flip blurry whirls - sucky. I've been playing in my alley the past week starting @ 7pm. I usually start @ 6 something, but it gets dark and I have to go to the alley where there is a streetlight.

28SEP2005
rained all day.

29SEP2005
woke up @ 330pm cuz of sleep study, then went out @ 5 so didn't play today. I did 20 swirls BS and ~10 blenders BS while waiting for my ride. I was wearing pants! :) It's getting colder now - especially in the mornings. Some days are still all warm (70's) and its still warm during the afternoon still every day. I'm sad about the prospect of not being able to shred outdoors, but there's still about a month.

Review
My flip swirls are super consistent now. At least when drilled; I'm not sure midstring yet. They are getting to a point where I can almost freeze them instead of serving them up again. Still not as full range of control as with strong side; I have to set good to hit flip swirl, whereas I can swirl off a messed up set strong side.

It surprises me so much to be able to hit blender over and over again. Blender is a such a fun move. I don't know about hitting stuff out of blender yet, but I'm really happy on the progress. I'm still working the technique.

Bumping up the drill count to 40 has really helped. 20 is good to start ur muscles into learning mode, but 40 makes advancing alot faster (more than 2x prolly).

I realized that it doesn't take very long to do a drill. Even doing 10 flip eggbeters took only about 2 mintues. Some times I don't feel like drilling certain moves, but I just do it, and finish up in no time. 1-1.5 hours is a relatively short time for the immense workout, and training obtained.

I just saw that I'm a BSOS Beast - sweet!

20 swirls BS
20 ducking clippers BS
40 blenders BS
BLURRIER!!! 3x...yes with an R
pixie blender (2nd time ever).

really easy blenders. i did around 6-7 BS (14) without missing (not in a row, catch and re-serve)
I'm so happy about the blurriers. It is such an awesome move - one that I always dreamed of hitting.

I generally am not very competitive, but i am usually good at stuff. I always think that with enough determination and practice I can do anything. With my increased practice as of late, I am thinking about what purpose it's for. Sure, it's fun, but I also train to get better. Getting better is good even if not striving for the best, but it made me think, "maybe I don't wanna put in the time to acheive a very high freestyle level. It s a daunting undertaking consider all the great players in the world now." Although it's true that currently I may not have the desire to be the best, that thought kinda pissed me off. I started thinking, "hey, why shouldn't I try harder. That fucker, (insert good freestyler), hits this move so easy, why shouldn't I?!" And this competitive spirit actually helped me alot. I started playing really consistently, and very focused.

01OCT2005
40 swirls BS
40 blenders BS
20 ducking clips BS
40 spinning clips BS
butterfly>blender BS
blender>infinity BS
2 ripsteins

Since my spins are getting better, I tried to do spinning osis. I hit it a couple of times on my good side. I had hit it b4. I hit it on my flip side though! Later I tired to do spinning clipper>spinning osis - and nailed it!...then on my flip side!! - though it took considerably more attempts, and didn't look as pretty. damn, what a sweet combo - especially for a non-spinning fool like me. I just watched some old footage of CIC last night, and I thought of James' spins. I miss playing with James. It was so fun, and motivating.

While watching the footage, I saw Brian. He was just starting to get good. It was pretty cool to see him hit cool moves and cool small combos but without the smoothness that he has now. He was in a learning phase. I also noticed how fuckin good James was. God Damn! Even by today's standards he was phenomenal. I saw Dan hitting mobius for the first time. I just started being able to hit that move (4 years later). Dan's good. Then I saw young Reile - he looked like such a little kid just a few years ago. I'm gonna bring a tape so we can watch it together with zeke, et al.

I tried blender>blender. didn't hit, but got close.

I don't like ducking clippers lately. Somehow, I can't hit as many in a row anymore.

I tried this combo today that I thought of yesterday: DOD>Barfly. I hit it! I was so happy. I hit it 4 times total. Then for the flip side. I hit it!!! This is a big surprise b/c I could never do flip barflies. I tried valiantly a few months ago for a day, and managed to hit it, but generally I always felt so off balance trying that. just very awkward. But now...it feels totally natural, easy even. I wasn't even hitting just barfly. I was fricken hitting dod>barfly! I hit it 3 times and footed it 3 more times trying to match the 4 on the good side. I did try very hard for the 3rd and 4th flipside, though. I must've done around 50 attempts or something. I was dying, but I kept pushing. I didn't stop and catch my breath that many times. Sure, I would prolly have better luck at my attempts, but i didn't wanna rest. It was a hard-core workout. Afterward, i practically laid down on the oily driveway to rest. A long sesh - but in reality only about 1.5 - 2 hours.

I generally consider this footblog a journal for myself. It's weird to think that someone (that i don't know) may read this.

I was happy to see the video that Dan made. I haven't seen myself play in a while, and sometimes I'm worried that my style may be fucked up. I'm happy to say that, after watching, I'm happy with myself. Aside from that fucking pdx mirage from right clipper. It seems I always do that move when the bag is on my right clipper. I used to always do a pixie from my "bad" toe set when I started freestyling. from now on I'm considering pdx mirage from rt clip a bail, and end of run.

At first, KenSo's comment bothered me a little - that my ripstein was shoey, but even when I read it I knew he had good intentions at heart , but still it was a buzzkill. I s'pose it's for the best cuz now I'm doing my swirls deeper. I did 2 very smooth deep ripsteins today.

40 blenders BS
40 swirls BS
whirl>blender BS (flip side was a bitch)
drifter>whirl>drifter>whirl BS :)

4OCT2005
40 spinning clippers BS
40 blenders BS
-10 as whirl>blender BS
-10 as drifter>blender BS
-10 as ducking clipper>blender BS

5OCT2005
kicked with kamil @ portage. Pretty fun. blender bsos again. I hit this combo: whirl>swirl>whirl>reverse swirl. Kamil had good stepping set - looked like an old stepping pro. fun to kick w/ K; it has been a while. He told me that Gabby wants to photograph us kicking. Sounds good.

6-7OCT2005
nada - up all night watching tv, eating, sitting on a lazyboy. 24 hrs. Sleep study.

8OCT2005
spinning clipper 20 BS (6 in a row!! good side, 2 flip)
swirl 20 BS
blender>whirl 5 BS so so hard
paradox ducking whirl x2 (from rt ft clip to lft ft clp) 1st time eva
back hurt from sleeping too much. quit early.

9OCT2005
played @ Welles. Reile came! Tim came! Kamil, Zeke, Nathan, Jon, Josh, Jacob came. I played like shit. But hit blender>blender! Reile and I came close to pdx whirling swirl - his wast better, kinda went up afterwards, but not sealed. We are racing toward it now. We played net. Josh brought his net. It was pretty fun. First 5>5 I think: blurry whirl>PS whirl; really nice. didn't fly away or nuffin. also a spinning/gyro xbd rake.

10OCT2005
back and neck hurt. no play

11OCT2005
head hurts. didn't play.

12OCT2005
10 spinning clippers BS
10 gyro mirages BS
10 spinning osii BS
10 spinning legovers BS
flip spin was pretty consistent. otherwise, sucky day. eyes all dry and felt dizzy.

13OCT2005
played with kamil. short sesh. fun. good pixie shuffle string.

14OCT2005
[20 pushups. stretch legs. 20 reverse pushups. stretch legs.] x4

short sesh. it's been relatively nice out. It wasn't enough to sustain a real sweat, so I would be hot and cold at the same time - got all itchy. Then got sesh cut short because had to do some shit. It really pissed me off; it started me on a rampage of rage for most of the rest of the evening.
20 ducking clippers BS
10 whirl>blender BS
10 spinning clipper>blender BS

15OCT2005
10 spinning clippers BS
10 blenders BS

Reile and I talked earlier and he suggested that we try blender>blender>blender and flip whirling swirl. I tried a bunch, but hit only blender>blender 2x. It helps with control though. I tried flip whirling swirl too, but nada.
I did hit blender>ripwalk BS
Then handstands and pushups.

2 weeks in review
The first few days were really good. I started linking the moves I'm schooling. 2 for 1. I'm happy about the whirling/blendering/driftering/swirling/ducking ... etc .. combos. Since the up-all-nighters I haven't been able to get a decent sesh in, and I didn't even play a few days. I haven't had a good shred string lately. Sometimes i think that I'm fooling myself into thinking that i'm getting better, cuz I was only doing single move drills, but then I remember some good strings on Dan's footage, and some while shredding with Kamil. Kamil and I always have good warmups (daydreaming not giving reasons).

I'm really excited that Reile is back. We talked on the phone, he came to sesh, we hung out and talked about NYJ. Zeke and Reile are getting a place! I'm happy for them and excited that it'll be fun for us all.

I was thinking of doing a post like this every week, but we'll see. Then there could be a month in review! I need to spice this blog up a bit. Lists of move drills are only to be glanced over. Then again, I only really started this as a journal for me.

New Year's Jam
Some planning has gotten under way for NYJ. We had one discussion (it's hard to get peeps together) and contacted a bunch of peeps to come. The sponsor thingy is what is worrisome - cuz it's new. We got it handled even if we don't look for any, but it would be for the better if we did. I know that New Year's Jam is awesome, and that is only more evident to me in comparison to other events I've observed. Technically it's Scott's event, but as far as I'm concerned that doesn't matter. We are the ones with the power to make the event great, if only we should act - and we shall. I've pretty much never put real effort into running an event b4. I know that if we wanna take a good hold of the reins that we could do a super job. Everybody from Cali and Canada and Europe ain't gonna come this year, but with enough hype and footage (and people to back up both (and fun)), NYJ will grow.

I'm already ebullient about all the people confirmed to come (Mike, Em, Jerm, Amelia, Hen, Dan), and the hopefuls.

16OCT2005
Kicked at Welles with: Nathan, Reile, Jake, and Jon
T'was a motley crew relative to the norm, but I had fun. I didn't feel very creative, and I wasn't stringing well. i was really happy about Nathan's playing though, and Jake's. Jake is so fast at moves, he links good shit, and his links are getting more smooth. I'm so happy nathan comes out alot; he's so cool. reile came!! I feel like making it a point to make sure reile is happy when he comes so that he will keep coming. I'm gonna have to try more next time.

17OCT2005
Talked to John Mahood today:
He fueled me so much for getting sponsors for our event this december. i was kinda dreading getting sponsors, but I'm totally optimistic now. He's a gas station of motivation (Motivation Station).
Talked Mike Hansen today: I haven't talked to him for a while, so I was happy to get an IM. I'm more motivated now to make halloween in madison happen.

10 spinning clipper BS
10 spinning clipper>blender BS
10 fears BS - first time I ever schooled this move. 1st time I did this many in one day prolly.
20 ducking clippers BS (40)
10 flip blurry whirls - learned: step set leg should not go to high, plant fast and have whirl ready. must learn more. i used to try 3 flip...10 much better.

18OCT2005
I'm sitting here reading modifed, and i get this bad feeling that I sometimes get when people comment on the way a freestyler plays. I'd much rather hear about the person's personality. Or when someone starts sobbing like a girl at a really good freestyler's combo. there's nothing wrong with it, but it bothers me a bit. I think the core of it is that people rank freestylers as people based on their freestyle skills rather than their personal attributes. At a tournament, people would be all-up-ons the big names, but not as cool to the guy who is only tiltless.

20 swirls BS (40)
20 spinning clipper>blender BS (40) - lots of sp cl...gotta set straight up
10 fears BS - My knee hymen popped! I kept hearing my knee click as I did the fairy set. Then one time it popped really loud! I held my knee expecting pain, but it didn't hurt at all. Afterwards my knee was slightly more flexible.
10 flip blurry whirls
20 terrages BS

19OCT2005
20 swirls BS (40)
tried flip pdx whirls to help with flip blurry whirls, but I wasn't getting them, so 40 flip whirls. Then more pdx whirls - was better.
20 terrages BS. back to back. training for good ass double dexes.
cut it short cuz had family over for dinner, but still a good workout. After sesh I threw the bag on the car, but missed, and it was dark , so I couldn't find it. I jumped te fence and looked for it btwn the fence and neighbor's garage. Went inside to look for a flashlight, and found a BBQ lighter instead. I go back and light the area only to see SLUGS! They're not gross per se, but I'd never seen them b4. I was afraid they were gonna suck my blood. I mean, they weren't leeches, but you never know how much you don't know until there are slimey things that aren't worms around you and you had been putting ur hands all up in the dirt ant!@! I got my garage keys, got a real light, then found the bag.

20OCT2005

Had to help a friend with someting and didn't play.

21OCT2005
I usually play around 6, but I didn't have a chance till about 8pm today. I was about to, but I had stuff planned for afterwards kinda, and I didn't feel like being rushed, so I said, "fuck it," and didn't play today. That's 2 days in a row. Hopefully it will be better for tomorrow when we kick together. I did however work out upper body:
handstands, 20 pushups>stretch,kicks>20 reverse pushups>stretch,kicks>repeat 4x

22OCT2005
Kick with Vindicator - in CIC blog.
then 20 pushups>stretch/kicks>20 reverse pushups>stretch/kicks>repeat 4x

Just watched "Mike and James" video. Tits vid. I'm downloading the music (Autechre) now. James plays so well and styley; It always gets me so motivated. It's the first time though that I compared his combos to the newer kids on the block - like that kid in the red shirt in the FDO2005 video. I wish James never stopped playing.

Week in Review
I haven't freestyled with the club alot this week - Reile and Jon once. I hung out with Zeke and Reile once, we were supposed to meet today to talk about NYJ, but we didn't. I feel very alone relative this club lately. I even felt aversed to putting effort into NYJ today , but I discounted that feeling with the thought that this solitariness is only temporary, and also that effort needs to be put in for the progress of the city if nothing else.

I didn't school very hard this week at all. I need to start earlier in the day, cuz shit always comes up during my usual sesh time.

I started upper body workout again, and started reading/learning spanish again.

My strings are maybe getting a little better, though I haven't played much to be able to tell. I suppose I should devote some time to stringing during solo sessions. I wonder how others school. Also, I really wonder how certain people practiced during their first year.

I have been switching up the schooling routine which makes for some mo' fun. My flip whirls are better - I'm going to school them alot along with flip pdx whirls then to flip blurry whirls. Terrages are easy, but I can feel the burn. I think this practice wil help. I've been bringing drifters back a bit.

I was thinking about my spinning clipper>blender practice. That just a few weeks ago I couldn't hit either move. That makes me happy. Started practicing spinning clippers August 26, and blenders - september 21 (just 3 posts ago!).

Get on it.

Msg me if you need anything at all. I recently found out that I'm not going to have any school from Thanksgiving all through December. So that'll give me a chance to really work on my site, but work with you as well if you need anything with the NYJ event.
More C4 please <3

23-24OCT2005
Nada. it's been raining/wet for these days.

25OCT2005

finally got a little dry. temp in the 40's-50's i think. when i started playing i didn't have any motivation. My eyes were drying, and my body was not in the mood. i think i hadn't even fnished digesting my meal yet. The idea of schooling single moves or anything repetitious was not favorable, so I tried to string. I realized that my duck after butterfly /drifter was all low. Like my balance/stance was such that i couldn't set a good duck from it. i tried to string throughout the session here and there. i liked it cuz I could keep trying certain combos over and over - easy/medium junction combos that I would try in group sessions, which are very important to string length. I did school too:

40 flip whirls - On my 3rd one I kicked my shoe off somehow! My shoe flew 5 feet away. It was so weird and funny. My shoes aren't very tight usually (I can slip them on/off).
20 terrage>terrage (40) w/ drops but not that many
20 gyro mirages BS (gotta set straight up)
1 drifter>ducking clipper>drifter BS (flip took many more attempts. I really like this combo. the whole not ducking well after drifter/buterfly thingy was evindent again after trying this.

I'm going to call toe set reverse swirling toe (tsrst) tristestsa for this post...shit that's too long...how about triste? or trista so pluralizing is not weird? Just until I find out the real name. I kinda don't like the way it sounds - sadness. Anyway I tried symposium tristessa today. it's mad hard - didn't get very close. Also tried it regular direction swirl (not symposium though). No dice.

The end of sesh: I hit my feet together and crashed on the ground. not too bad, but I decided to call it a day.

26OCT2005
1.5-2 hrs
Strings galore.

Started w/ common stuff. retried when got stuck. Came across many cool combos this way.
butter>ducking clip>drifter>blender BS
toe drifter>blender BS
spinning clipper>torque BS FUN
gyro mirage>toe torque BS
(lots and LOTS of attempts - 20 minutes. made me really good at flip gyro mirage)

many attempts at all of the above. also lots of ducks and lots of drifters.

drilled 10 flip pdx whirls

didn't tolerate ugly moves; focused more on good style. good day. had music.

upper body replaced today by carrying stuff up to Zeke and Reile's place. 200 lbs for zeke's wardrobe!

Zeke and I kicked at Lane. I did freestyle a little - with some peeps there, so no schooling done, or even big time freestyle. We did, however, get some good 4 square in. Good to see some of those fools again; it's been a while.

Later chilled at Z & R's, moved stuff, built wardrobe, did handstands, watched vids, and ate BBQ chkn pizza. Then left to play poker.

Did really well with poker. Everyone thought I was gonna win this week, but alas a damn all-in hand got me again. I was playing conservatively throughout, and I made some really good folds (we often showed our cards afterwards). Out of the initial 15 people I was 4th. If I made one higher i'd get some money.

28OCT2005

didn't feel like playing, but made myself.
Started with:
4x (20 pushups>stretch/kicks>20 reverse pushups>stretch/kicks)

Then started kicking. I decide to start with some gyro mirages. They're my new thing. After about 6 BS I started trying gyro mirage > toe drifter I hit many. Sweet fricken combo!

After a while, without thinking, I tried a VORTEX , and footed it. I was fuckin stunned! 8O (wide open eyes and quick inward breath). I really don't know why I tried vortex; it just followed from gyro mirage. I tried a whole bunch more times and managed to hit it BOTH SIDES 2x! No seal, one hand catch.

29OCT2005
I dunno if I played this day. might be on a piece of paper somewhere.

Review (written 14NOV2005)
Only 3 days of actual training this week. Vortex was so awesome. I did not even think of trying this, didn't think I was ready for it. Stringing more. Starting to train on combos. Wednesday's combos were really fun, creative, and a workout.
