I have re read book 6th and im now convinced that snape is not evil.
Why?
Lilly potter.
I really believed he loved her and you know who murdered her. This would be snapes big secret that only dumbledore knows hence why dumbledore trusts him so much, because dumbledore understands the power of love to where voldemort doesnt. I mean isnt that voldemorts biggest weakness and since snape knows oclumency voldemort would have never know his hidden love/crush on lilly potter.
Dumbledore could not allow snape to sacrifice his double agent role and dumbledore was never exactly afraid of death.

Good call. I didn't think of that, or really I forgot... Was this post inspired by the fourth movie? I can't even remember which book those flashbacks are from, and I'm finally seeing the movie tonight!!! I'm surprised there hasn't been a post about it yet. I will make one when I get back from the theatre, though I've heard the movie moves really fast through eveything except the ball?

I finally saw the 4th movie -- I didn't really like it too much; they sped through everything WAAAY too fast. I felt like it could have been done WAAAYYYY better, espcially if they wanted to skip so fast through everything (though 2 movies like Kill Bill may have been a good idea? I think the most happens in the fourth book anyway...) if they made it clear that they were skipping through so much material. My brother told me afterwards that apparently it makes complete sense if you haven't read the books...but still. It messes with the fans. I thought Voldemort was poorly done too; he was AR too sympathetic I felt. Plus I always pictured his face either in shadows or hooded by his cloak.
Regarding Snape...my girlfriend's mom and I were talking about it and we thought it completely plausable that Snape could be Harry's biological father... We didn't actually think it through too much, so if you find loopholes please speak up. It makes sense that he looks out for him, though, and because he had a crush on Lilly before, right?
Umm, plus apparently www.dumbledoreisnotdead.com is a good site for proof that Dumbledore isn't dead. I haven't visited it myself but a really good point I heard was that you have to have your heart in it to actually kill with Aveda Kadavara, and if Snape is a good guy, which we believe him to be, he couldn't have killed Dumbledore with Aveda Kadavara because he cares for Dumbledore. Plus Fawkes cries all during the funeral, and doesn't fire rise in the shape a phoenix? (Dumbledore's animus...) I'm not really sure of all the terms and all that...
What did everyone else think of the movie? I thought the dragons were so well done. Man they skipped so much...I almost didn't even see the point of anything at the Quidditch World Cup...they didn't show the game, or even the incident with the house elf...the intro was good with the dream, the dragons were awesome, and so was the underwater trial (shouldn't there have been monsters in the labyrinth, though? Maybe I remember wrong... I had pictured Krum really skinny. That scene were he jogs down the beach with the girls flocking behind him was pretty funny.
Oh I also hated how rushed the entrance of Beauxbatons and Drumstrang were. Also, wasn't Hagrid's brother(?) in this book?

I have read both tolkein and JKR
Harry potter is a better book series but its not fair a fair comarison by no mean.
You cant compare them due to the difference of era
Starwars was epic and groundbreaking for its era the same way tolkien was
the same way the matrix(1) and JKR set new standards of entertainment in this more current modern era, With more technology, training, information, money, recources i just dont think its fair to compare them to their similar predecosors
I hate to take anything away from tolkien cause LOFTR was an amazing story but harry potter i can read over and over and over. The art of writing and creativity is so much more advanced in jkr that her material always seems enjoyable and fresh no matter how many times you read them.
Erik grop (hagrids brother) is in the 5th book, Yes there was suposed to be alot of monsters in the maze, And i completely disagree with your critisim of the ending of goblet of fire, I thought the grave yard scene was amazing, I thought voldemort was perfect, I mean its a harry potter movie and you get to hear him shout "KILL THE SPARE" thats freaking awesome.
The movie was rushed but i think its still good, i feel sorry for everybody who sees it without reading the books i couldnt help but think it would be a very confusing movie if you didnt read them.
all i got to say is order of the pheonix better be a 3 hour movie. 2 hours just aint enough

oh lol.Mightymic wrote:the real question is why is tolkien so much better then rowling?
literature vs pulp fiction...
Tolkien was a professor of English at Oxford University.
Rowling was a bad secretary and an English as a foreign language teacher.
Rowling writes simple easy to understand books which appeal to the masses. Tolkien wrote complicated and intelligent work that is much harder to understand and more demanding. Rowling makes up for her lack of English writing skills with a possibly intricate plot, although these discussions like this one remind me painfully of the pre Matrix Revolutions discussions (so maybe most people are reading way too much into it).
Personally I have to say, although I've only read the first 4 Harry Potter books, I'm not a fan simply because the characters are way too stereotyped, the strong message of segregation and elitism and the writing is too basic. I'm of the opinion that it's fairly easy to design a clever plot (if the Harry Potter plot is clever) and the skill of writing comes in how you actually write - rather than the story line. I guess there are a few exceptions like Phillip K Dick but it's the messages and ideas he puts forward and the fact that he was a genre defining writer that make him one of my favourite writers. Rowling offers nothing new (at least as far as I can see) and is simply a good story teller but essentially a fairly unskilled writer. However I think that it's great that so many people are actually reading books because of her and enjoying them. Anyway I don't want to spoil this topic into turning it into a debate - those are just my opinions and you probably can't change them. It will be hilarious if Harry dies at the end of the serious though and all the little fanboys cry. I think Snape is evil because I don't have the same belief in Rowling that you guys have. Snape has been in it with the V dude for years and tricked even Dumbleboy. The final battle in book 6 will be between Harry and Snape and Harry will kill him. Then in book 7 Harry will kill Voldo but sacrifice his own life to save the world and bring joy and happiness to all.

I think you may be selling jk rowling short a little jeremy
She strives away from cliches like by having the main charectors first love interest shoot him down is one example i can think, Shes also very good about death, death is instant and people die without resolution harry doesnt hold anybody in his arms to get an inspirational dieing last words.
These books deal without alot of everyday real life pain and they dont sugar coat it, harry is not perfect and is loaded with insecurities irrational thinking hatred and fear all the charectors have a very real feel to them, i think thats what makes these books so easy that you can see these people existing in your real life and relatiing to the conflicts they have with each other just minus the magic.
Her true skill that puts her in her own league is patience and attention to detail. She will not rush a plot twist she will slowly let it take its coarse and maybe give you the chance to forget about it so that later on you will be pleasently surprised and maybe even mad at yourself for missing it.
For a book to appeal to children and include topics of Racisim (half blood vs pure blood) goverment coruption, and the torture and death of good people is truly a feat to not look past and consider it to be anything more than pure genius.
AND IF YOU THINK THERE IS ANYHTING SIMPLE ABOUT THESE BOOKS THEN READ 5 AND 6 AND THEN HIT THE EDIT BUTTON ON YOUR POST AND RETRACT THAT OPINION.

The writing style and language is simple. There are plenty of books with complicated plots that deal with the issues you're talking about. The books are easy reading - that's why you feel stupid when you miss the plot twists - because they don't make you think - you just react to what you read. It's interesting though that you talk about racism because of the way "muggles" are dealt with in the books.tuomoruutufan wrote:AND IF YOU THINK THERE IS ANYHTING SIMPLE ABOUT THESE BOOKS THEN READ 5 AND 6 AND THEN HIT THE EDIT BUTTON ON YOUR POST AND RETRACT THAT OPINION.
I suggest you read a book or books that have actually recieved awards for literature. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is a book that actually deals with the issues of friendship and personal loss - rather than just having those issues in a plot that is essentially entertainment. There is a significant difference.

I think its genius to cover such serious topics and to keep them so enjoyable.
I could really careless if alot of other writers have award winning litterature because its a safe bet that they are not nearly as enjoyable than harry potter.
Im not trying to say that nobody else writes about racisim or death but how many books are so much fun to read for such a broad audience for that i think she deserves some credit.
Lord of the rings is great but its still plagued with very boring chapters. I loved the books but there is no way i could ever re read the fellowship of the ring (one of the most boring books i have ever read) Tolkien redeemed himself with the two towers and return of the king which were amazing.
Wether you think JKR is a writing genius or a creative simple average author, you cant deny that her books are fun page turners that have drawn millions into a dying hobby. I cant freaking put them down!!

The writing style and language may be simple, but that's what makes the books so enjoyable. Yes, they are meant for entertainment, but they also deal with issues such as personal loss (Harry loses Sirius and Dumbledore) and friendship (Harry, Ron, & Hermione).
I understand what you are saying Jeremy, but you should also understand that these books are really great to read. If they weren't there wouldn't be such a craze for them all across the world. By the way Jeremy, have you read John Steinbeck's "East of Eden" or "The Grapes of Wrath?" I thought they were really great books with interesting themes. "East of Eden" especially was an amazing book, I thought. Sorry to be off topic!

Warning; the ending of the last harry potter book has been leaked onto the internet, and in this post I tell you the ending. Just be glad I have enough of a conscious to warn you.
omg I rock. Either that, or JK actually is a bad and predictable writer.Jeremy wrote:Then in book 7 Harry will kill Voldo but sacrifice his own life to save the world and bring joy and happiness to all.

I think it is very amusing how many people actually do believe that Rowling has kept her book somewhere easy to find for an average hacker
Do you really think that she is so stupid ? I have seen 4 different endings now (which are all of course "real" because someone has hacked Rowlings Computer) and I read three of them. All I can say is rubbish - these "endings" are mostly written in a very very poor English and so stupid that it's not more than a laugh.
Just wait for the book (it's not such a long time anymore) and then we'll see if anyone has ever guessed correctly
