I think footbag would continue to have it's friendly community regardless of how big it is. What's going to happen - footbag makes it big and so everybody decide to stop talking to each other? Anybody who makes it big in the future will have to have the help of people who currently play footbag - ie. us. Nobody will become superstars without help. So long as we look after our young padawans things will be fine. I can still imagine myself sending postcards to Byrin Wylie when I'm a multi millionaire footbag overlord. I can't imgaine myself stopping talking to other footbaggers because I get mobbed by teenage girls everytime I go outside (actually on consideration - maybe I would talk less - but I would still find time in the busy schedule that that would entail).
I think when you look at skating as a good example - those people didn't have the internet, they didn't have the kind of community that we have today - and as they "made it big" they stayed in the same groups of friends etc. - in many regards things didn't change much. The same thing will happen with footbag. Maybe you'll get completely independant fans who start playing and have a completely unfriendly non community spirit - but those connected with us who already play will be fine - and they'll also be in the best opportunity to become the next footbag superstars.

Ahem, on the topic. I agree with Jeremy, the bigger footbag gets, better.
Think of it this way: If footbag were as big as skating people like Vasik, Jorden, Felix, Honza, Anssi etc etc etc would be able to push the sport much further and much faster! If they were sponsored and paid to go to events and to live, they could spend all their time playing! Unfortunatly they currently can't.
It isn't a matter of physical boundrys, Vasek has been showing us this for years, you all saw Jorden hit delluisonal butterfly, anything is possible with enough time, but money is a real limitation that could be delt with if footbag were a mainstream media sport.

With fame and sponsorship comes the responsibilities of demos and just generally being a company's billboard. You've got to do media events, advertisments, opening shopping malls... All of these responsibilities BECAUSE you like to play footbag. Surely this could inflict some damage in one's will to play.
Where as, the thing that gets us through the day is the shred session that night. What gets us through the week is that event on the weekend.

Ofcourse you would have more time to play if you didn't have to work, sure you would have to go to tournements and demos etc, but remember, at these events you are still playing!!!Not only that but you would have a responsibility to get better, which is a motivation to school for those extra few hours so you have this new concept down for the next demo video your company is putting out.
Not having to work 40 hours (or more for most people) a week would DEFINATLY give you more time for footbag, there is no way around it.
What helps a sport evolve is key persons playing it that have the right mind set to push the envelope (like Jorden Moir for instance), if 20000 people play the sport it's much more likley there will be more of these people than if 2000 play the sport.
How do we get 20000 people to play footbag? Well look at skating, there are friggen loads of skaters everywhere in every town and there are far more skating pros then there are footbag pros.
The key is MEDIA COVERAGE. That is what skating has that footbag does not. Simple as that.
Takumi wouldn`t have discovered footbag, or wouldn`t have discovered footbag as quickly, if not for the massive footbag campaign that Pepsi sponsored 2 years ago. There are a bunch more really dedicated footbaggers in Japan who discovered footbag because of the Pepsi campaign. Fads aren`t bad, because even if a fad/campaign generates 100 wannabe-posers for every 1 dedicated shredder, that`s still one more shredder than there was before.
Footbag is one of the greatest joys I have found in this life. I want to share it with as many people as possible. Footbag blowing up and being huge would be great, because it would mean that many more people who can enjoy this great sport. If it gets to the point where people do it for money instead of enjoyment, or for fame instead of enjoyment, that sucks for them. But bigger exposure increases the likelihood that somebody like you or me, somebody who will love footbag dearly, will discover the sport.
