Freestylin in the Graveyard (Net...)

Post by funklovesfootbag »

Ok Been playing for 6 weeks now, and before I moved to Santa Cruz I Could hit mirages, leg overs, around the worlds, and pickups but very inconsistently, and all very sloppy.

After playing with The Santa Cruz Footbag club for 3 days, I've hit...

9/19 Much cleaner legovers and pickups, more consistency, hit clipper stall for first time thanks to Emily Kulczyk's help, started to hit a bit longer strings. occasional ugly pixies.

9/20 Doing much better. Playing with Emily Kulczyk, Jeremy Mirken, Amelia Butler-Nalin, and Nate Maertens for maybe 5-10 minutes at the end of the session. I played the best I ever have, hit legovers, mirages, pickups and some around the worlds very consistently in 5 to 6 trick strings and I think 15 in the best one, I hit the clipper back to clipper stall, hit 2 pixie-legovers, and a butterfly on each side (which I havent been able to do since.. that pisses me off,) and I attempted double legovers but didnt hit any that day. Attempted illusions but landed only maybe one out of .. a lot of tries.
It was very fun playing with them because I landed a few tricks that I'd never even thought about trying before. Playing with people better than me is definitely making a huge difference.

9/21 Played with Emily and Jeremy again, this time at a really cool spot overlooking the ocean in Santa Cruz I'd never seen. This day wasn't as good as the last, the only thing I was happy about was hitting 2 double leg-overs, which I hadn't hit before. Best string was maybe 5 or 6 tops, very sore and tired from the day before. Still fun though, and awesome to watch Emily and Jeremy shred.

thanks for all the encouragement! :D I'm really having fun playing and hopefully I'll be able to take another trip to europe this summer if only for a little while, but I doubt I'll have the $. I feel really lucky that I got started the way I did and I'm just loving this more and more every day.

9/22 session with emily at tennis courts

Post by funklovesfootbag »

9/22 Hit my first illusion!! unfortunately, I seem to have this talent of hitting a trick once and then I won't be able to do it for an eternity afterwards, but.. I hit ONE.. so that's good I guess.

Practiced ATW both sides both ways need to work flipside much more. practice setting and dexing cleaner, more circular.

mirages are the only trick i can consistently do clean... ATWS to mirages i can do cleanly.

a few leg-over strings, pickups, a few ugly pixies.

hit 7 or 8 left clippers, 3 or 4 of which were clean. Cant really practice flipside right now because my right ankle is FUBAR for the moment...

*GOALS*
hit ATWS clean both ways both sides same set
hit legovers clean both ways both sides same set
hit pickups clean both ways both sides same set

at least 5 of those in one string...

then hit illusion clean.

Hopefully.. within 2 weeks.

9/23 session with jeremy emily and amelia at tennis courts

Post by funklovesfootbag »

so tonight was a lot of fun.
I hit...

17 mirages, starting off alternating sides then i just did my strong side for 11 or 12 stalls.

some pickups, legovers, ATWS,

pixies
(need to remember to set higher and dex more with knee,)

I hit a fairy for the first time once cleanly and then a few more times ugly.. need to get setting foot down quicker and dex more leggy.

I hit a Symposium Mirage twice.. first time I've done that, I remember dreaming about doing that trick 2 or 3 weeks ago but that was without Jeremy's instruction. Very happy about this.

Learned to duck from a toe stall.. landed it clean a few times and then hit ducking toe stall mirage and i hit one or two zulus, and one dive. Im gonna start working this into every trick and run i do because its the coolest looking trick i can do and its fun as hell.

My legs dont understand symposium pixie yet but hopefully in the next two or three sessions i'll hit it.

sloppy clippers still..

Very very fun session.

9/24 session alone outside my apartment's laundry room

Post by funklovesfootbag »

9/24 saturday session alone about 50 minutes jesus i get tired when i play alone.

Hit 4 symposium mirages! 2 in a row! very happy with this but I need to quit raking (I think that's what it's called, where you scoop it up?) Work on landing cleaner.

Hit pickup to pickup to ducking mirage and attempted legover to legover to pickup to pickup to ducking mirage but couldnt get it. Try more! harder! fastah!

hit 2 pixies BSOS

hit 4 flipside mirages in a row

hit ATW in-to-out, out-to-in, in-to-out, out-to-in twice but only on strong side. gotta work flipside atw but i suck so bad at it it's just discouraging.

some legovers to legovers, pickups to pickups, no clippers.. (augh!)

Fun.

9/29 I had a Session with Emily and Jeremy in Jeremy's shred garage (stadium seating will be installed soon.)

I had a lot of fun and I drilled a lot of my stuff, hit a really good string for me and some other stuff.

I hit...
legover-legover-pickup-pickup-mirage-
legover-mirage-legover-mirage-pickup-
mirage-pickup i stumbled a little bit here but didnt drop it and hit a shaky pixie before dropping. One of my best sets if not the best so far.

about 5 symp mirages. Very fun move I have to learn something to do out of it. symp mirage to symp mirage? symp mirage to ducking something? yes.

hit strings of about 4 of legovers and pickups and mirages pretty consistent.

Very bad at the flipside ATW still. regular ATW is ok but i know i should just practice the flipside.

a few ducks.. very inconsistent still but ducking mirage and ducking pickup need to be practiced. (Fun. very fun.)

Maybe like 6 to 8 ugly clippers .. I start to get discouraged but I know it takes time.

practice 2 add strings of 10 more and clippers, flipside everything, symp mirage to ducking mirage.

Forgot, I also hit a toe stall to toe stall with a body varial in between, this is called spinning toe stall or..?

you seem to be progressing nicely, im sure your gonna be really good it helps alot haveing ppl around to play with, :( un like my bum town where every freestyle footbagers are more a poserstyle sad to say. im the only one for a good distance. an i got alot farther then i thought i could ever do in over a year.

you get to play with Emily Kulczyk an Jeremy Mirken..... thats like geting to play football with Terrell owens too me. your going to learn quick if thats where your help is comeing from. those guys are just a avatar to me.

WORK BOTH SIDES !!! im sure you where told this, but its something that will really make the differance in your game in the future.

&

BASICS !!! drill them till you got them diled an your legs will get strong an make progressing fast, becouse tons of tricks are just a set then a basic move so if u got your basics down then when u learn a set youll have no problem doing some higher add moves.

& oh ya.

HAVE FUN WITH IT !!!! just dont care, just have a good time, expairment, make strings u never did befor even if there only 3 contacts. have fun an try things that you never tryed befor, read modified tips an tricks section alot an learn from it.

ReQueST- can you hit butterfly or ss (samesided) butterfly?

best of luck too you, ill keep a eye on your progress.

Zach S Hoffa

ok so maybe, just maybe terrell owens wouldnt be fun to play with actuly.....

thats a tough mOfO

haha thanks a lot man, I do feel really lucky to play with them and I'm definitely having a great time.

Butterfly I've hit once or twice but i can't seem to get the cradling motion down well enough, I just end up kicking it or missing it entirely. I'm considering just practicing clippers for about 500 tries.

Thanks for the encouragement I'll definitely keep it up! :D

10/01 san lorenzo tennis courts with jeremy and amelia. jeremy hit 65 osi and blurriest to blurriest, amelia beat me to a clipper-pickup.

drilled clipper a little bit on both sides, noticed i do better when i twist my lower body out and my upper body in.

hit clipper-pickup for first time
hit symp pixie for first time then hit it 4 or 5 times more
hit symp pixie to symp mirage
hit some 6-7 move 2 add tricks and maybe one or two longer sets
drilled flipside atw hit it maybe 3 or 4 times
hit symp pixie to legover
practiced a little ducking

hit mirage-atw-legover-mirage-atw-legover once but kept screwing up on flipside the rest of the time

i thiiink thats it. very happy.

played for almost 2 and half hours really fun session.

10/02 session at .. i forget the name, some really nice park on frederick st. with Emily, Jeremy, and Nate Maertens.

Didn't hit anything new, best set was flipside mirage-atw-legover-mirage-atw-legover

hit 1 or 2 symp pixie to symp mirages (of course i couldnt land it on camera.)

had one long 2 add set of 8 or 9, i think i dropped on 9.

started practicing flipside symp pixie and symp mirage but my right leg doesnt want to jump yet. probably within a week i should hit it...

I was too hungry and motivated to get my laundry done to play net but next time im going to try it out.

Fun sesh.

**LATER THAT DAY**

I drilled symposium pixies and mirages on my flipside for 30 minutes and hit one of each! VICTORY IS MINE
