'First' Records

Post by Jorden »

Hey,

If you take a scroll through a Guinness World Records book (esp. a newer one) you'll find some first records. It's usually the first person to do a difficult sought-after task, like climbing Mt Everest, receiving a heart transplant, landing on the moon (? :P ), etc.

In addition to consecutive records, I think including some footbag firsts would broaden Lon's record list and make it even more interesting to read. (Lon -- yes/no?)

Some questions for starters:

Who was first to...
1) hit a 3 add? 4 add? 5? 6? 7? 8? 9??? 8O
2) win 3 consec WFC titles?
3) hit a single dexterity trick? double dex? same leg/direction double dex? triple? same leg/direction triple? quad? quint?
4) hit rubberman? rubber II? blubberman? plasticman? BAP?
5) land (intentionally) a ducking move? double ducking?
6) do a spinning trick? double spinning? triple spinning?
7) hit a symposium move? double dex symposium?
8] perform a dropless open singles routine? Intermediate? Doubles routine?
9) get 200 in shred30?

OK, here are some random answers:

First 5 add move was Kenny Shults, who hit double spinning osis (set from outside kick) waaaaay back in the day. I guess you could count it as a 6 if you count x-spin, but anyway. This also answers the "first double spinning trick" question.

The first symposium move was symposium whirl, conceptualized by Joey Schaeffer, and executed by Rippin`.

The first dropless intermediate routine at Worlds, was in 2000, by Jere Linnanen.

Vasek was the first person to have over 400 adds in a routine, accomplishing this feat during semis at worlds 2003.

The first routine over 300 adds was at Western Regionals 99 or 2000, executed by Ryan Mulroney.

The first 7 add trick was either gangsta party, executed by Brian MacKenzie, or Gauntlet executed by Dave Holton. I think both tricks were hit the same summer, but at the time spinning paradox wasn`t recognized, so official recognition went to gauntlet as the first clean 7 add on video.

Sunil was the first person to hit nemesis.

The first quad dex hit was Shooting Star (shooting double down), back in 2000 by Red Husted. At the time, the consensus was that the shoot was "clean enough," but by today`s standards I don`t know if it would get recognition for 4 full dexes.

I`m not sure who hit the first 3 add, but I would be surprised if it was any move other than butterfly kick.

The first person to hit triple spins was Felix. Actually, has anybody else triple spun?

The first 8 add trick was likely shooting torque, hit by Tuan Vu back in 99. Again, the shoot is questionable by todays standards.

Hope this was a good start.

1st 3 add trick--jack Schoolcraft--butterflier. Jack was first to do double spinning tricks also. very possibly the first to do a spinning trick.

1st to win 3 consecutive WFC titles---Peter Irish

1st dropless routine ever---Etienne Constable. 1st dropless doubles routine ever--Bruce Guettich and Jim Caveny.

1st ducking trick--ducking clipper invented by Peter Irish and Tim Kelly at Michigan Xmass Jam 92. (duck was originally named the "earphone". That name didnt stick  ) Soon after that it was taught to Eric Wulff and he invented Zulu, diving, ect. and OWNED it.

1st double dex---Kenny Shults, double around the world kick.

I guess some of these will remain in doubt though - stuff like first 3 add and first ducking trick are both things that I've seen people in kicking circles hit with no knowledge of freestyle at all. I imagine that circle kicking is fairly old and the level stays pretty much the same.

I think Allan Haggett has hit triple spinning osis but I'm not positive of that. He's definitely hit double inspinning osis which is pretty close to 3 spins.

First 9 add would be Kenny Shults Big Apple Sauce? (counting x dex)?

I heard a guy in Victoria BC whose name I forget but definitel starts with a J hit blurry voodoo bail osis as well - so that would also be up there for a 9.

you would really really really have to see these "9s", and decide for yourself if there was an actual trick performed. Allan does some of Jubal tricks cleanly.

Uh, shooting torque is an 8. Although there is a symposium dex in the shoot, it doesn`t receive an add. So there is no symposium add amongst the 8 adds of shooting torque, which was hit long before cheese processor.

Just to follow my thinking: shooting torque, 8 adds.

-dex (1st dex of shoot, no symposium awarded)
-dex (2nd dex of shoot)
-pdx (2nd dex of shoot)
-dex+xdex (torque dexterity)
-body (spin for the osis)
-xbd+delay (final clipper)

8 adds, no symposium adds.

meh.

I don't really believe in the paradox dex of a shooting set or xdex for that matter.

I see

DEX DEX PdxDEX BOD XBD DEL 7 adds

The first beast was hit by Ahren Gehrman, and was shooting butterfly-food processor-mullet. As for the date, it was at least 5 years ago. PM "Torch" on the forums and ask him, or ask him in his blog. He`d know better than anyone.

Didn't Tuan Vu hit shooting butterfly>shooting butterfly>something else? I thought he hit the first 6>6>6 but Ahren was the first to hit them all unique?

Ahren hit 3 food processors in a row... maybe that`s what you`re thinking of?
