emo/may be a sub-genre associated with punk in a way but in no way is it punk, i refuse to accept that a bunch of trendy whiney makeup wearing practically goth rejects are in any way punk in any sence,
punk is totally differentiated from afi or my chemical romance or him, they are not punk they are pathetic excuses of bands that feed off of the whole depressed youth scene these day's..

Screw these emo brats!! Punk is a state of mind not a type of music. The emo scene is full of vanity and childish whining, two things that all punks hate. Infact....i think that Johnny Cash is more punk that any emo band out there. Punk is about the "i don't give a shit what you think of me, i'm going to have fun" way of life. There is no room for some loser crying in his room with dyed black hair, bangs and eyeliner on......
Just because these two distinct types of music employ a similar drum beat, doesn't mean they are the same. As dragonhack said, MCR and the Used are anything but punk. For punk try some Pennywise, Against Me, Nofx.......pretty much anyone who isn't willing to play at the Warp Tour!
P.S. The Warp Tour used to be punk......until Good Charlotte was on the bill

EDIT:i remember now...i listen to hardcore and punk and metal and every kind of good made rock music,so i sometimes listen to emo stuff too,blink 182 is one of my favorite bbands,and they used to be titled as emo.but,i dont dress like the style of music i like,it would be too confusing with all the styles i had to combine,plus i dont wanna be looked at and someone say:"uh look he´s so metal,this poser"cause i think,most of the guys that wear the matching clothes too the music are posers,not all,but most them!i prefer to have unique style...my own....see what i wanna say?

and if you want to listen to "real" punk rock the listen to bands like banks 77, antinowhere league, the meatmen, and such bands, it;s a great genre to follow and i love being "punk rock" not only does it pass time sewing or painjting on you're leather but it also has tyher whole "i want to get drunbk all day" attitude, it's excellent!
