just remembered that as of today, it has been thirty two years since september 11th happened in Santiago, Chile. The democratically elected Chilean President Salvador Allende was assinated in a coup backed by the U.S. government and its CIA, causing Chile to be ruled by the brutal dictator Augusto Pinochet for the next 17 years.

This is also the 4 year anniversary of me playing footbag!!
Seriously though (and politically) - I think it's really sad that the tragedy of the trade centre attacks really has only lead to more violence and problems - it really looks the US has made things a lot worse since the events happened. The anti US movement in the Middle East is no longer just a very small group of crazy extremists - it's a much larger population - Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq as well as much stronger anti-us sentiment in Pakistan, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt (to name a few). It's sad that the lives lost really were in vain and that nothing good came from it. It's completely (in my mind) because of such a simple minded approach to the problem that has really ended up isolating and polerising a much larger population then were previously effected by the US involvement in the Middle East. I would say the US tried to put out the fire by throwing water on it - but it was an oil fire...

This also marked the anniversary of a quadruple hijacking (three of which were successful, 1 foiled mid-air) carried out by nationalist Palestinians. Not al Qaeda. Not in 2001. This was Sept. 6-12th, 1970.
The Palestinian Liberation Front hijacked four planes bound for U.S. cities from European origins and diverted them to Jordan where the hostages were used in bargaining for release of Palestinian hostages. The planes were blown up on Sept. 12th.
