I assumed that was implied by my saying "...I'm not refuting the point that 'judgement is impared under the influence of drugs.'"Splint wrote:I know it's your statement, but I want to amend it by adding "unless you are actively under the influence of drugs."NotHisRealName wrote:However, speaking generally, being a drug user does not mean that your judgement is impaired.
My point was... just because I'm a drug user, it does not mean that my judgement is impared.
However, I must say that you've probably made the most inteligent post in this whole thread.
Holy morning after, Batman!
My post was more coherent than it might have been, given that I only sort of remember making it. Damned thanksgiving (mmm, turkey).
You asked about the good reason for doing drugs in the first place? They're fun. Simple as that. Responsible drug use among adults is roughly as dangerous and as fun as responsible monkey-bar use among eight year olds. (I like climbing things)

It's to true......experience is the spice of life. If you never experience (fun, fear, love, loss, danger, drugs, adrenalin, joy)(not all of them if you don't want to) then how are you a full person. I live a full life and am very content in the things i do every day. Smoking pot is something i enjoy, and if you want to persecute me for that then power to you. I guess your life is so much more wonderful than mine.
Is that the argument you would use to justify murder? Essentially I could say that I killed someone because I wanted to so now I am living a full life.Slowsis wrote:It's to true......experience is the spice of life. Hey yeah totally I agree with that concept. I'm a big fan of trying new things that I might not really get into. Food is a great example - I've eaten things like sheeps brains, birds nests and crocodile. When I go to a restaurant I usually order the most interesting and unusual meal - even if it sounds really horrible - rather than something I know I will like. Same with beer too - I'd rather try a beer I haven't had before than one I know I like. You can extend this philosophy through everything in life. Sometimes it will clash with your moral beliefs - for example I doubt I'd eat whale because I'm opposed to the industry and killing of whales, and equally I wouldn't kill somebody just to find out what it feels like. But if the only person who is significantly physically going to suffer than I'm happy to try something new all the time. The world is such an incredibly amazing place and I want to experience as much of it as I possibly can before I die.
every time someone refutes a point that one of you drug users make, you just make another excuse. Either be completely thorough in your points, or just stop trying to make it "right" to do drugs.

I think comments generalising everybody who have expressed a positive or negative opinion on a topic is ridiculous and very silly. Clearly the issue of drugs is not black and white and I don't see the point in commenting on people who have such a small understanding of the issue to act as if it is a simple issue.
Be specific. What anti-drug point would you like refuted?
edit: Also, what makes the points of one side 'refutations' and the points of the other 'excuses'? Could it be that you had your mind made up before the debate even started?

First of all, lets shake from this debate the notion of "right" and "wrong". I'd be surprised if I could hear a convincing argument for an objective morality.
If someone really wants to do drugs, then that is their choice. I'm not going to try to prevent anyone from that. However, that does not mean I don't think it is silly or won't try to convince them that those actions are not the best ones to take.
I think many people are too willing to naïvely jump to that assumption as a means of rationalization. [Note: rationalization: Defense mechanism. Justification: creating elaborate explanations for one’s own behaviour which only appear logical to oneself. Allows a person to escape anxiety over their actions, yet continue with the behaviour. ]Slowsis wrote:My above statement is assuming that by smoking i am effecting no one but myself.

That is the exact reason why I choose not to partake in drug usage. I feel that doing so would be an incredibly shallow / unrewarding use of my time, just as I feel spending 7 hours a day watching E! would be.Jeremy wrote:The world is such an incredibly amazing place and I want to experience as much of it as I possibly can before I die.

|)A synthetic chemical similar to the active ingredient in marijuana makes new cells grow in rat brains. What is more, in rats this cell growth appears to be linked with reducing anxiety and depression. The results suggest that marijuana, or its derivatives, could actually be good for the brain.
In mammals, new nerve cells are constantly being produced in a part of the brain called the hippocampus, which is associated with learning, memory, anxiety and depression. Other recreational drugs, such as alcohol, nicotine and cocaine, have been shown to suppress this new growth. Xia Zhang of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, and colleagues decided to see what effects a synthetic cannabinoid called HU210 had on rats' brains.
They found that giving rats high doses of HU210 twice a day for 10 days increased the rate of nerve cell formation, or neurogenesis, in the hippocampus by about 40%.
Just like Prozac?
A previous study showed that the antidepressant fluoxetine (Prozac) also increases new cell growth, and the results indicated that it was this cell growth that caused Prozac’s anti-anxiety effect. Zhang wondered whether this was also the case for the cannabinoid, and so he tested the rats for behavioural changes.

Like in every sport, footbag has to make a difference between the sport and drugs, other intoxicants and doping to grow a bigger sport. Smoking pot is a decision of a person and should not be associated with the sport.
Probably this is why footbag is growing more in Europe than in the USA, because here footbag hasn't got this "pot-head hippie" mark on it's forehead.
In fact, no Finn knows what hacky sack is but many know what footbag is, id est here circle kicking is called footbag too. (Actually I think the only Finns that know what hacky sack is are footbag players ourselves.
