The meaning of life

Maybe if you got your ass of the computer and did something more productive you wouldn't be just "getting by."

I suggest you do what your parents did: get a job, sir!

i have a job, and i do spend a lot of time off the computer. it typically takes me 10 - 15 minutes to do all my posts, and i check three times a day and a lot when i have school and breaks at work. I actually work at a hospital, and sometimes I go on standby for IV's and such, so I usually have a lot of free time based on I go in for 3 p.m. and have everything done by 5 p.m. when I have to leave at 7 p.m. So there!

And when I mean hardly get by, it's relationship troubles. :'(

the meaning of life is to live it, not to sit idly by watching things pass you by, why not try and make you're life what you want it to be not what everyone else pressures you into doing, it is you're life after all!

My question is, if there are so many people who don't believe in God, why aren't they petrified of dying? Now, I'm not referring to just the people on here, I'm speaking in general.

If you don't believe in anything after death, why do so many people risk losing the only existence they have. People get drunk, high, etc. and it seems to me, that if I didn't believe in an afterlife, I wouldn't blatently risk losing EVERYTHING as carelessly as a lot of people do.

I don't know, just a point to ponder I guess.

Any thoughts?

because risky things are fun, it's how it is and how it has been for quite some time, if some people get a rise out of self destructive behavior, then who am i to tell them to stop.

No, I am. In fact I bet I could beat out anyone with the stupid stuff I've done for fun. I was stressing my point that if you don't believe in anything after this life, then why would you risk losing everything? I'm saying I am quite comfortable having roman candle wars and playing with sharp things and jumping off God-knows-what because I am a Christian, and in a matter of speaking, don't necessarily fear dying. Why would I fear the greatest promotion of all time?

If G-d wanted you in heaven to begin with, instead of living a life on earth, don't you think you'd be up in heaven?

Exactly...living dangerously is fun!!!!

Fun is fun regardless of what you beleive. Whether I beleive in the afterlife or not, i still enjoy having fun. I am not willing to sacrifice good times for caution, because if i neglect good times, it doesn't matter how long i'll live, as i won't enjoy it. That is my meaning of life.

Don't you think the after life is crowded enough? You think they need roman candle battling guys up there to spice things up? Within the meaning of life, I'd think it'd be more directed towards spending time living.

I am not petrified of dying because I know that it's part of the way the world works. I'm grateful of what I have while I'm alive, and I think it's kind of big headed to assume that I get more after this life. A lot of Atheists who I know are scared of death, but only because in general people seem to find the idea of non-existence an uncomfortable idea. I don't share that feeling, but it's understandable.

I'm not scared of death. I would be very, very sad to know that I only had a specific amount of time left. But the thought of my parents dying, or my sister who is 9 years older than I am (so it's likely that she will die before I do)... that thought petrifies me. It can literally make me cry when I think about it.

As for the 2nd part, you want to die just about as much as I do. You are taking the same chance that I do when I do anything dangerous. As far as I know, it's not like "those who believe in heaven go to heaven, and those who don't believe in an afterlife don't exist when they die." I don't have an end to that train of thought.
