The only reason people going around wondering "what's the meaning of life?" is because we as civilized people are so alienated from our natural state that
a. we know deep down that something is wrong and we're searching for it
b. civilization and "progress" lack a definitive goal or meaning and we're searching for it
Deep down we are all yearning to return to our primitive wild selves. I think that "really living" means living UNMEDIATED and that means anarchist tribes of hunter gatherers living in face-to-face communities without all the politicians, corporations, authorities, farmers, specialists that currently alienate us from true freedom.
Agriculture and civilization have been around for less than 1% of human existence. I think that there is no "meaning" to the domestication that has led to the cancer of civilization. We wouldn't be worried about meaning if human beings hadn't made the mistake of planting wheat and herding cattle 10,000 years ago. We also wouldn't be overpopulated, trashing the earth and its other species, afflicted with epidemic diseases and psychological disorders, fighting wars, burdened by work and technology, or told what to do.
If you're really searching for meaning in life, consider giving up everything you've been taught is necessary: technology (electricity, plumbing), government, science, religion, agriculture. I think that there is meaning or at least something beautiful deep within us that can be released by rewilding.

Wow, Will, I don't think I've ever heard you say more than 10 words in person. Nice long post, pimp.Rockey wrote:our natural state
I'm not suggesting that what our world/country/community is right now is natural per se, but what would you say about the idea that humans' natural state is to be civilized to an extent resembling something we have now.
Sorry if this is off topic, I haven't read all the posts.
Purpose, if you do not have a purpose then for you life has no meaning. Ok... so whats our purpose? In order to find a purpose you have to believe in something. In other words there has to be something more than just simple existence that you choose to believe in. So choose to believe in something that to you is worth believing in. It does not matter weather you can prove it to be true or not. If its worth believing in it will make your life better and give you joy. So to find meaning in life you must choose to believe in something that makes your life better.
Im not sure if this follows logic, but it seems to make a lot of sence in my head.

I put it this way.
Eat, Drink, shit, piss,Fuck, and die. These are the only things in life that are real. Everything else is a tool that we have created to make life easier. Its just gotten so easy we as a whole are completely domesticated. Everything esle is just a symbol or a tool.

I completely disagree Life works on a fine balance, You are born with a purpose of survival everything else is just a choice. Animals have a purpose and they dont believe in anything except for living to see the next day. Happyness is not a requirement of survival, we all chase happyness because we as a species have a detached respect for death. If their were dinosaurs trying to eat your ass around every corner you would not be to worried about beliefs. We all know were gonna die, but how many of us think were gonna die tonight? We believe were gonna die after the age of 70, we believe we wont get cancer, we believe are hearts are strong and healthy, we believe that a natural disastor could never kill us, we believe alot of things all of which try and make us feel better about the painful miserable end fate we all share.NoGuilt wrote:Purpose, if you do not have a purpose then for you life has no meaning. Believe whatever you want decomposition does not see a difference.
You can do whatever you want with your life good or bad it all has an equal purpose.
Which brings up another topic, Is there such a thing as good and bad.
Or arent we all created to be what were gonna be. I mean eveyrthing about humans is created by ourselves. So if we create everything ourselves then we creat the good and the bad. Do i want to see people get murdered or ruin there life on drugs, or people go to war, or car accidents, rapist, child molestors, drunk drivers, drug overdose, suicides, or aids, no i dont want to see that and nobody else does either but who wants to see bambi get eaten by a crocodile, Or a bunny rabbit get strangled to death by a python, or a pack of wolves chase down a pig and rip it to pieces.
I know your all thinking hey shawn thats stupid theres a big difference between animals hunting and humans making bad choices. But think about it is there a difference really, is it really a choice or is it fate is it our natural balance to maintain a healthy thriving habbitat. Good and evil is just sour grapes, In the end i believe its mother nature at its finest after all mother nature is infallible.

Woah Sam, I was being sarcastic. I wasn't trying to make any huge point, or attack anyone's point of view., and I certainly wasn't going for anyone's "congratulations." I was just poking fun of the style of argument of some people on the forum recently. If you're going to attack someone, why don't you make an actual argument to go along with it?Sam Colclough wrote:congratulations moxie.. FOR NOTHING!
