ankle stretches
ankle stretches
Whenever i stretch my ankles anymore, it seems like i can't really stretch them that well. I don't feel the pull and when I'm done they don't feel stretched. does anyone else have this problem? I can tell its definately hindering my game because i am having trouble getting down my flipside clipper stall and it is because the footbag just rolls off the foot, because it is not flat enough enough, because it is not that flexible due to my lack of stretching it. If any one can help me i would greatly appreciate it. Also, is it okay to hold stretches for long periods of time - say during algebra II class. For example, would it be okay if I sat in my chair at school with my ankle in a stretched position for a long time to make it more flexible, or is this bad for the ankle? thanks for your time guys i really appreciate it.

This probably shouldn't be in general footbag, but i'll answer anyway with my opinion.
I don't think that you should stretch your ankles, you will weaken them; which will lead to injury. Use your muscles to flatten your clippers instead by doing inside stalls and wraps.
Also, look up clipper stalls in trick tips, you don't need flexable ankles to hit clippers.

I'm thinking about something... and there is a very high chance it has something to do with footbag.

Word. Like Toby was saying, good clipper form doesn't depend so much on how loose your ankle is, but rather, how strong the muscles are that cause your ankle to bend in the right way, and since you're new to the game, well, those particular muscles are probably simply not that strong yet, and further-more they simply aren't used to doing that kind of work, so they don'tt do it automatically yet. You're simply gonna have to concentrate on your form alot when you're attempting clipper.
Inside stalls and wraps? Yeah, thats good advice. I'd add Walk-Overs to that list. Those WILL stretch your ankles some (I'm not totally against a little stretching), but I'd say the real point of them is that you'll put your ankle in that nice flat position by putting your foot on the ground (with the bag on it) and then you'll use them muscles to lift the clipper up.
When you do the walk-over, I recommend doing the actually walking-over part (the part where you're ankle is on the ground and supporting your body's weight) very quickly, but them, after you've walked your other foot over the bag, lift you clipper foot up very slowly. Then put it back down, walk back to the inside stall position, and lift that foot up very slowly again. Repeat.

i stretch my ankles all the time while im sitting in class...and it actually does help it alot...i told my friends to try it also and its been working quite well for them also. i usually hold the stretch for like 10-15 seconds then do it with my other foot.
before i told my friend to do it he couldnt hit an inside stall, now he can do it easily because the stretch helped make his foot get flatter. Personally, i reccomend it because it helped me alot, and has made my game overall better.

Be careful with the stretches and with walkovers especially. About 9 months ago I started doing a lot of walkovers in my runs and stuff. Then about 2 - 3 weeks after I added them to my game, my right ankle started to hurt bad. I've had off and on troubles with my ankle since that time and to this day still have soreness after playing a lot. So be careful and don't over do it.
