frustration

Post by Nogbad »

I guess I need to just blow off some steam, I first picked up a bag about 8 days ago, and I still cannot do any of the the basic kicks. I know others have progressed much more quickly and it bothers me. I have modded lavers, sandbags matt emmings 6 panal. I just needed to blow off some steam, I'm trying my damndest to get better, I'm dying to actually shred.

slow and steady wins the race. (Miyagi voice:) Build foundation- good! Get too good fast-bad! Work harder, results come. Now paint the fence.

yeah man...people progress fast yeah, but they have to start somewehre...

trust me, once you get the basics, everything else kind of flows with it...just keep playing and dont give up, you will get there...and don't worry about how others are playing or progressing, this sport is about testing yourself, so go out and play and play and play!

I think perhaps you are expecting too much from *eight* days of work!

have faith in yourself! if you are already feeling 'gee whiz, i should be better than this' then you will probably keep progressing.

keep at it man! :)

Lol. Prolly right Mosher. It is the first time I've picked up a bag. I never even circle kicked. Funny how I got into it. friend found the bikiniduck site that sells the metal bags and I just immediately fell in love with the sport, went home and looked up all I could about footbag. That lead me to footbag.org which lead me here. And now I'm trying my best to be able to shred it up. It may just be that I'm too busy gauging myself against others and not just looking at how I myself am doing on my own

just learning to kick it 10 times consistently can take quite a while... it's fun once you do though

I think you are the only person that even knows about freestyle in the entire milwaukee area :?

I think I'm the only remaining person in milwaukee that is trying to freestyle, yes. I found out the milwaukee footbag club is no more. Right now, I'm busy trying to decide weather I wall kick with my matt emmings bag or the Mr. I'm leaning towards the emmings, I love the weight and the feel of it.

Part of the problem is you're expecting too much of yourself out of only eight days of footbagging. It takes a lot of practice, patience, and perseverance during the early days of footbag to build up a foundation; but that's what you should be doing. I was pretty flustered at myself when I was at your point and I still get mad now (today's session was an example of me getting mad; most of the time I suck more, but if I'm the right kind of mad I do better after I attack the bag more). Just keep practicing and you'll learn quickly.

Wow, your story brings back memories Reggie. I remember for a long time I had trouble doing some of the basic kicks. I remember the first kick that was the most important foundation was the inside kick. I finally mastered it to the point where I could use it to kick around in a circle. And only on my good side mind you. But that may be the best advice for you, is just getting that inside kick down. Just keep kicking it straight up over and over with the inside part of your foot. Try to keep records of yourself hitting that move.

You probably know this by now, but doing that move requires you to swing that inside part of your foot upward so that it's parallel with the ground, almost at your waist when you kick the footbag.

Once you get that down to the point where you can kick it to yourself 5-10 times, try to work on the left foot with that kick. Then try left, right, left, right, left, right.

It took me WAY longer than it will for you to learn the basics Reggie. But I didn't have access to sites like these, because the cough* internet cough* wasn't invented yet when I first started. We're here for ya man, anytime you need help on a move or technique, just ask anyone on this site. ALL of us were where you are now, and we all appreciate what you're going through.

Just master that inside kick- and you'll see, you'll feel a lot better about things. Let us know how things are going when you've mastered the inside kick :)

Hey, thanks guys, really means a lot to me. I'm not giving up by any means, I love this sport. Friends all think I'm mad getting as serious as I am. But, I just tell them I love it and I'll let them kick with me any time they like. Lol, no real bites on that one yet, but at least they're starting to accept that I love it.

Don't worry about being as good as the master shredders. There will always be someone better than you and always someone worse off so just enjoy the game for what it brings you (obviously happiness at this point) and love it for what it offers. :) Other than that mo
