If you really want it done, the pain shouldn't be an issue.
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.

Don't worry, it doesn't hurt. i was with my ex-girlfriend when she got it done, and she didn't even really flinch. After some time, it can wear down on your front teeth, depending on what kind of ring you have in there. barbells and stuff wear down the most because they have that flat disc that sits inside your lip. The hoops don't really do it as much really.

The worst case scenerio is this, your front teeth get chipped or worn down, your gums get worn away and have to be replaced at an insane price and for the rest of your life you will have a little dot where the piercing once was. That is just the worst case scenerio though, none of that will for sure happen, but those are all the worst things.

i have TWO lip piercings, one on the left side, one in the middle. the pain wasnt bad at all, though i think it depends on the fullness of your lips, and the guage you begin with. after getting it pierced, dont switch it for at least two weeks, though the 'recommendation' is like a month to two months. basically, once it stops discharching and is less red, feel free to switch it out. remove any surface crust that forms. the best thing you can do is mix spring water 50/50 with listerine, and keep it handy all the time, washing out your mouth between meals, in the morning, and at night. its not really as big of a deal as its cracked up to be.

EDIT--its also recommended to NOT use hydrogen peroxide, as its apparently too strong and can irritate the area. but i just mixed it in with the other stuff.

hydrogen peroxide will prevent cell growth and healing. same with rubbing alcohol - or listerine for that matter. That's why you'd want to dilute the listerine before you use it.

I have my labret pierced and I just had to remove it about a week ago because it wore away to much of the gums and my tooth root was exposed. That never grows back and has no enamel on it so it decays easily. The only thing I know of that you can do to fix it is to get an operation where a dental surgeon to take some tissue from somewhere else and places it over the exposed root, but like Tom said, it's pricey. But for what it's worth, out of the four that I have, it was the most painless peiceing. I miss it now
