I'm getting an abshire...and

The damn thing scares me. It's a gift, and will be here from freedom footbags any day now. Being the beginner I am, I have no idea how to approach this thing. Id rather not just let a 40 dollar bag just sit there, ofcourse I'd like to kick it! but I know you must be gentle, etc. How should I go about dealing with the thing, or should I leave it be for now? I have to say I'd excited to be getting one of the best bags out there. just wanna know how best to care for it so I don't destroy it. thanks guys.

Wow, you're gettin an abshire? Sweet! Yeah, these are awesome bags, but you have to take care of them to break them in effectively, and also not to damage them since they're kinda pricey.

This may sound crazy, but break the Abshire bag in using your hands mostly. Since this will become your best bag anyway, you're probably going to want to carry it everywhere you go! Just kinda massage the bag with your fingers as much as possible. Don't twist or grind the bag at all. Where as that was good technique for all those old crochet bags, it's sure to destroy this type of quality bag.

You can also kick the bag, since you've been using your kicks a lot. That'll help break it in too. Just no toe pick-ups!! That will greatly decrease the life of your bag. Also, wash your bag about every 1-3 kicking sessions, depending on if you're using it outdoors or not. If it looks dirty, just give it a good bath in mild hand soap. This will break it in as well.

The only downside is a 32 panel bag is difficult to use for beginners. It's no where near as stally as Mr. Sandbag when you're learning form and technique. The reason I'm saying this is because I don't want you getting frustrated if you find it hard to stall with. This bag will be awesome once you get the proper form down. Have fun!

Wow, thanks a lot. Yeah, I was somewhat surprised, I was showing a friend The abshires on freedom footbags sayin man I'll have one of those one of these days, meaning in the future. He said nope, I'm ordering you one tonight. So thanks to him I'm getting my abshire. I almost feel badly because I'm still working on my kicks (getting much better by the way) and there are a lot of people that'd die for an abshire I know.

I actually think practicing my kicks with it when it gets here will be good for it. I'm in no real rush to break it in because I'm still in the basic kicks/stalls area, which I think it will help. I've read several posts of people being in such a rush to break in their 32 panals they just destroy them, I figure if I just kick with mine and then work on stalls and such with my mr bag or emmings, it'll stay in good shape and eventually become my main bag.

I was the same as you. i got an abshire right when i started and it was great for me.

You dont have to be gentle with it. The only things you SHOULDNT do are:
-Scrape the bag. this will ruin it right away
-Squish in your hands a lot
-Wash too often
-Wash too little( wash it when it is VISIBLY dirty.)
-Stomp on it

Thats it. you can kick it as much as you want. You can kick, stall, anything.

heres a tip that i got from Felix Zenger himself

Handwork it until it is stallable then shred with it , he said alot of hand rubbing wears it down quickly so making it stallable then shredding with it is the best.

yo dude, just don't be frustrated when you can't use it at first. Un-broken-in bags are near impossible to use, even for experienced players. Hopefully, you have a Mr Sandman to use until your abshire breaks in. post pics when you get it!

if I did it correctly, thats a picture of my new abshire and new matt emmings (btw, if you like heavier bags the Matt emmings 6 panals are worth a try, if you havn't already). I actually like my color scheme on both. Props to Richie and Matt for sewing up some sweet bags and Daryl for the color selections!
