DIM SIM!!

Here is to post about your love and/or hate towards dim sims... I currently have an amazingly massive craving for them, probably due to alcohol consumption... I am sooooo hungry right now but the parents will wake up about now so I can't go make food... It is light outside and has been for an hour...

If you mean dim sum (pronounced deem-sum, not dim-sum), most of my favourite foods are from this meal!! Bo lo bau (pineapple bun with custard -- named after the look, not the taste), lo mai gai (meat sticky rice in banana leaf), cha siu bau (steamed pork bun). I basically love it all, but these things I could eat forever -- I have tons at my birthday dinner every year (just a week ago!). My dad ordered me 25 freshly baked bo lo bau!! I also love ha gow and siu mai, the shrimp and pork dumplings. Chinese food is by far the best. My favourite food is my dad's soy sauce chicken -- it's unbelieveable.

Yes Chinese food is the best. You can never have too much. I love everything Erik listed and actually cant think of much more that he didnt list. There are some but those are probably the best. Oh yeah the meat balls good and pai gwat (pork ribs). Dont like the Dol Sa Bao though (Red bean).

My Mum made some Soy Sauce Chicken as well but havent had it for ages.

I was just talking about your garden variety deep fried dim sims from the fish and chip shop! You know how good fatty food is when you're drunk

But yes, I haven't had a lot of chinese food in my time, but I really like it. I don't know any of those names or what they are but I enjoy chinese food

I'll probably have it more often once I start going down to play with the Melbourne guys more... they always have meals in china town

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but man, you have eaten some crazy-sounding foods, Erik! I remember you talking about some rare fruit. But hey, I am probably up to trying these things if I ever have the chance, and they don't look or smell gross.

Fuckin eh! I've called every Chinese restaurant in Kingston and none of them serve dimsum. OMG! I was just telling Tom how much I crave it. It's like a weekly thing in my household to go dimsum on saturday mornings. Makes me more homesick.

My favourite is the steamed milk custard and the ha-cheung (shrimp noodle wraps).

Does your family make them, Clayton?
We have all the steaming baskets and stuff and my mom said she used to use them, but I can't really ever remember homemade. She said steamed buns are really hard -- maybe I will try to make cha siu bau when I get some free time -- my dad makes wicked cha siu.

Nah my Aunt just took us out for yumcha (yimcha wateva). So your dads the cook in your family aye. My mum makes some nice cha siu. She makes Some really nice roast pork with crackling. Crackling doesnt always turn out right though.

yumchas rock. I'll agree with Erik that good chinese food is indeed the best food in the world. Unfortunately I've found it hard getting good affordable chinese food; I've actually found it increasingly easy to get bad chinese.. still, dimsums, fried or steamed are fantastic. So is the sticky rice that Erik was talking about.. and the steamed pork buns.
Ok, I'm hungry now.

I had chinese for tea tonight... big dimsim and a sping roll for entree, chicken soup (beautiful) and then roast pork with mushrooms in oyster sauce with fried rice for main... mmmmm... sooo tasty. I love good chinese food it's so good.
