Grommet's Net Blog

Sunday Net session at Frederick Park:

-Hit about 80% of inside kick serves in bounds (usually 50%)
-Hit approx. 10 sweep serves in today (usually 3-5)
-No successful spikes today, but about 8-10 footed spike attempts
-Played a total of 5, 3 2-on-1 games, and 2 doubles net games. Was on the winning team on two occasions.

Injury report:
-trying a rt. outside, pinched my meniscus on my rt. leg. hurt for a while, will be better by tomorrow though.
-Trying a bicycle-style jumping toe kick, straineed muscle in my neck on rt. side- hurts like a biatch. Will recover in 2-3 days.

Net is fun. I played a more confident game today than I have in the past, but I was quite frustrated during the first 3games b/c I wasnt moving my feet to get into proper position.

Solo session: skooling consecutive outside kicks w/ a NET bag:

consecitive outside kick "runs" w/ NET bag:
-7 kicks
-8 kicks
-11 kicks (3x)
-14 kicks
-21 kicks
-24 kicks w/ NET bag, 80% outside kicks, 8O !

Consecutives w/ a net bag is tough. 24 is my record by a great margin. Feat accomplished in just under 20 minutes.

BUMP!
On a whim, I totally ordered these phatty shoes for net off of Ebay TODAY:

Image
If any net players actually read this (I know at least footbinc does), please tell me what you think of these shoes. I think they look good b/c they have flat insides and pretty flat outsides. I got them for a pretty darn good price- under 45 including shipping! They are new balance 815s.

Good day of NET today. Played 6 games in total-5 doubles, one singles. Got my ass handed to me by AJ in singles. Of note, I can hit my serves in anytime i want to now. My inside serve is at about 90% consistency, my toe serves are also at about 90%. My inside sweep serves are still lacking at about 30% consistency. I had some fairly good elevations for spike attempts, got one solid spike, and footed about 3 others. I flubbed at least 10 spikes today, but the net players all say Im getting closer. I've been "closer" for about 5 weeks now.

I anticipate those nifty net shoes to arrive in approx. 1 week, hopefully before next sunday, which is when glorious NET happens.

Final note, two weeks in a row now while playing net, Ive felt a rather painful twinge in my neck which has put me on my ass. The first took me out of action for 36 hours, the second for about 15 minutes. Crazy stuff man.

Nice shoes, they look a lot like mine. A good pair of shoes gives the net bag so much more bounce. Is it hard for you to get used to the inside kicks w/ those?

Here's what I use.. although not for much longer it'll be too cold in 2 weeks.

They look just as good
Maybe I should start running to justify buying them for $99 (on sale too).. supposedly the best running shoes money can buy

Maybe my chronically unemployed brother could even afford a good pair of net shoes at 40 bucks

TADAO! Lots of spikes in net today, including about 5 or six of the variety I posted about above. they are so cool. I also learned that i dont need to go balls out to hit those spikes every time, and that I can get relatively good contact just by touching the bag with my sole. Also, I had one inside spike and one good joust. I almost got a footbag in the face today tho, when AJ busted a sole psh that whizzed by my left ear. I was trying to block it and I had to bail . . . landed on my ass.
