Today Ricky, Justin and myself all shredded at Bumbershoot. Before they showed up, I was catching the Pharcyde, then Talib Kweli -- AWESOME sets. It was so much fun catching these guys live! Afterwards, I hopped out of the crowd and met up with Justin and Ricky and we shredded on the astroturf field where that set of shows was being held (the Mainstage). Common came on after. I like Common, but their set wasn't as good as Kweli's or the Pharcyde's. At any rate, we shredded and it was good. Everyone was busting. At the end of their set, the Pharcyde was wandering past and stopped dead when we were busting! They were checking our game out and were digging what they saw! Reciprocation, baby.
Afterwards we got rained on and shredded in a somewhat covered area on a main path. We had a huge crowd watching us. Justin hooked them with a HUGE run and Ricky sealed it with a very technical spinning/ducking run. A hippy juggler/footbagger from Anacortes was there as well and when we hooked the crowd he went around to the 50 some people and explain what we were doing and they were very generous.
However, afterwards he hopped back into the circle and our flow broke up and the crowd sort of dispersed. Oh well. FUN DAY.

So, SJFF is like... 16 days away. I don't have a bag anymore, and I got new shoes, and still aren't used to them yet. Very sucky.
The past few sessions that i've had though (when i kicked afew weeks ago) were pretty epic. Lots of stuff hit, new and junk. I can't remember though.
Everyone should go to SJFF, its gonna be fun.

Sam, I can't wait to shred with you.... it sounds like you've gotten sooo much more consistant! I'm still working on that, but for some reason whenever I shred with people outside of Red and Noah, I do a lot better, so hopefully we'll still be close inb the circles

SJFF was great! I shredded really well, which is sweet, since I was having a big confidence problem with my game leading up to it. Thankfully once I was around everyone I was able to loosen up and shred. I didn't hit any memorable combos, but I was playing confidently with a -lot- of long runs. I'm really happy with how I placed in shred 30. I think I could have gotten a better score, but coming in after all of the BAP guys is still pretty nice. What let me shred well was being able to put shred in its proper place mentally - I was there to have fun, to meet footbaggers, and to help out around the site. So long as I stopped myself from tying in how successful of a tournament SJFF was to how well I shredded, I was able to relax and enjoy myself fully. And bearing that in mind I made a point of meeting a lot of the more well-known players that I neglected to talk to at all last year and really enjoyed all of them. No wonder footbag is regarded as having a really welcoming and friendly community.
Next year I hope we can outdo ourselves. It will be hard, but I think it's more than possible. Hopefully I'll be able to play a bigger role in the organization... I need to learn to drive.
Oh, and of course, the shred circles that were fun! Memorable ones were shredding with Luis, and Kevin on Friday -- those guys basically set me up to enjoy myself the rest of the fest. Kevin's by far one of my favorite people to kick with. I think his game could be like Eli's if he works on the stylistic components of his game. Luis is amazing, I'm very excited to see where his game will go -- 'nuf said. On Saturday it was really fun shredding with Nate, James, Byrin, and Nick throughout the day. James and Nate are always really fun to kick with. It was crazy seeing them both in Lavers!
More write up later, I need to take off.
Peace!

session today with some Terrace kids today...
My strings were basically BOP with pixies, stepping, and some 2's, mostly illusions and pickups though. Oh yeah, and whirls on my right.
Basically, it was a pretty cruddy session. My foot still isn't completly healed, so I might take another few days off, and start icing it more. I don't think that Tiger Balm will completly fix it

yo yo yo.
What's happening. This is hippiedan from New Orleans, and I just joined modified. hell yeah. I just wanted to thank everyone in Seattle and RCS for being so kick ass and welcoming to me during my short stay in Seattle. Much thanks to Ricky, Sam, and Justin for helping me improve my game so much I can't even try to explain. Had a great 6 weeks of learning from some of the most talented people I've ever seen. Topped off with SJFF4, my first footbag festival - and it blew my mind. It felt really great to see the larger shredding community.
My game is still improving and I'm digging on it.
Hitting consecutive clippers, got 10 on my right and 8 on my flipside.
Alternating clippers are starting to come along, hit 6 consecutive.
Legover>mirrage>legover>mirrage drill also starting to come together.
Biggest combo yet is Paradox mirrage>legover>mirrage and I was so frigen psyched about it. Also yesterday hit flipside paradox mirrage and flipside paradox pickup a couple of times each.
Starting to try to get my butterflies consistent on both sides.... right now they are not consistent on either....
Missing people to shred with while i'm out here and wish I could join in on your sessions.
Such a long first post, but whatever. Thanks again to all of you guys, it was a much appreciated gathering during a time of ridiculous turmoil for myself. Hope to hear from you all soon.
Peace and Smiles,
hippieDan Shedd
