I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think critism is good and well and all part of the democratic process. Responding to critism is also part of that process.

EDIT: sorry for responding Tsiangkun :)

Yeah I'm not overly interested in competitions either, I'm more about the circles and friendships. I do however recognise the vital part competitions play in developing footbag, in numerous ways. Thanks to all the people out there that make competitions happen!

But competing asside, do you still consider it a sport?

I guess when you think about Juggling... there are competitons, but would you class that as a sport?

I don't know who coined the phrase but, like 'Extreme Sports', I think footbag is an 'Alternative Sport'. Like Juggling.

Damn straight it's a sport! I don't think competitions are neccessary for footbag to be a sport. Hmm, juggling... well I suppose it would be hypocritical to not name it a sport... but would I be wrong in saying it doesn't require a lot of physical fitness? I might be completely wrong there but that's what I'm thinking... I think anything as physically demanding as footbag can't NOT be a sport.

Now go roll out your peculiar physically demanding non-sports to prove me wrong ;)

sport: 1. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
2. An active pastime; recreation

There's no denying that footbag is a sport. Just like golf is a sport. Or pole vaulting. Or shot put. Footbag is both a sport and a leisure activity. One could debate on the popularity of the sport of footbag, but not whether or not it's a sport. It is by strict definition.

Yes. Definatly.

Juggling, like footbag is governed by a set of rules (you must keep the balls of the ground) and is engaged in compeditively. Therefore it is a sport. y = mc^2.

I am curious to know what those who selected "none of the above" believe footbag is to them. Just curiousity :)

Going by the official IOC definitions of a sport - footbag is only a sport when it involves competitions - same thing with juggling, running, ice skating etc. So circle shredding is not a sport although it's fairly physical.

Circle shredding and soloing for that matter are aspects of the sport used to drill and practice the game by yourself and amongst peers, much in the way football players drill and practice during the week before a game or 'competition' as in the case of footbag.

Of course these drills and practice sessions can also be used to leisurely enjoy the sport.

Yeah, if freestyle snowboarding is an Olympic sport, I don't see a reason why footbag couldn't be there one day too. In fs snowboarding the atmosphere is pretty much alike with footbag - competitions are a happening where you can compete and meet friends.
The reason then why footbag isn't an Olympic sport and snowboarding is, is of course the number of 'athletes'. :)
