really ur out of skool?? im in skool right now typing this, how come i dont get out of skool?? :(
I dunno, holmes. That's a shame..you can always make it up with an afterschool session.

Speaking of sessions..Had a short one with Brett before he had to go to work, then I continued by myself. Flipside clippers are getting better. I hit a symposium mirage on my flipside for the first time. That was cool.

Nothing too much to write about. Instead of a night session I went to a show. As a result, my glasses got busted and so did my lip.

It was fun though. Guess I'll just have to shred harder tomorrow.

Solo session today.

Practiced basic kicks for about a half hour before I even began to freestyle. Wow, I am terrible. I couldn't get more than like 13 consecutive contacts. Pathetic. I feel like "practice-practice-practice" isn't going to ever help. My kicking ability has reached a plateau. Good thing this freestyle thing is working out. Who needs kicks anyways?

Hit:
Illusion>Mirage>Legover BSOS -- Sick.
Symposium mirage (strong)
Butterfly (strong)

Footed a few flipside symposium mirages.

Pickups are hard.

I'm tired.

Word.

Had a short session with Chad at South Park in Hermosa. I wasn't playing too well, but I footed a butterfly>mirage. I like linking those two moves cause if you set it from your farside they're opposites..so it's as if you're doing a trick and then rewinding.

Not much else worth mentioning. Cut it short cause Chad had been playing net beforehand, but it's always good to shred with him no matter how long the session is.

Fun times.

You know you aren't shredding enough when your shredumentary gets bumped to page 2.

Been busy this week..two tests (Anthropology and PreCalc..yey). Aced the Anth test this morning and studied well for PreCalc (Tomorrow), so I decided I owed it to myself to shhhred.

Went to the tennis courts at Anderson with Brett. A good time was had by all, including the tennis players we were sharing the court with. Bumped some Deep Puddle Dynamics and hit farside butterfly>mirage several times. It was fatty. Barely hit my new drill of illusion>mirage>legover BSOS.

Brett introduced an interesting idea of how to do legovers/pickups, which is to do more of a calf dex. I tried it, but it seems like it might be too easy to be the accepted method. I guess I'm going to have to ask about it in the shred symposium or something.

Will have a longer session tomorrow, after my test is done and I'm stress freeee ('til next week or so.)

legover at calf is ok

Post by funklovesfootbag »

if i understand what you mean about the legover at the calf, it is ok. You want to kind of lead with your heel. props on butterfly>mirage and that drill is really good too, that's exactly the kind of stuff you should try. also try starting flip and maybe throwing in atw.

No clue what you're talking about as far as leading with the heel...I guess you'll have to show me when the NRFC is in full effect during Thanksgiving break.

Had another session with B down at the tennis courts again. I hit illusion>mirage>legover>pickup BSOS. Worked on my clippers a little as well. I was psyched to have a nice, long session until the lights shut off. These night sessions are really unpredictable. We need a better spot..or some flood lights.

Curious about clippers...if anyone reads this. I thought you were supposed to let your support leg do most of the work, but in a lot of videos I notice people's clipper leg doing a lot of the delay. What is the correct method?

Played net yesterday for the first time. Mark, Chris, Kevin, and I went down to the park by Mark's and set up his net. For some reason the yellow boundary lines worldfootbag.org gave him aren't really a rectangle...but we made due. I don't really know how you're "supposed" to play, as far as hitting the footbag goes, but I got accustomed to serving with an inside kick. I could serve pretty well, but I wasn't the greatest at hitting it while it's in play. I would always seem to make contact with the bag on my ankle or calf, instead of my shoe. Net bags hurt.

In conclusion, net is fun!

Had a solo freestyle session later that night in Hermosa. Good session, lasting about an hour and a half. Probably the longest solo session I've had yet..I'm trying to build my endurance. Towards the end I was having trouble hitting everything, due to exhaustion, and since I had to pee I just called it quits. Left clippers are slowly but surely improving. Mainly drilled trying to get good long(er) runs, consisting of mirage, illusion, legovers, and pickups (Pickups not so much).

Good times?

Clippers: support leg contributions do vary from person to person. In general however, the support leg bends not to "catch" the clipper, but more to provide overall balance of the body and to cushion the impact of clipper moves, which can sometimes be very great (i.e., symposium moves ending on clipper). As you fine tune your clipper, you'll notice the ability to move the stalling leg more quickly, more precisely, and overall with LESS movement and still have complete comtrol over the set of the clipper. until this point though, which might take a year or two, you need to remember to over exaggerate all of the movements (support leg cushion and clipper foot delay motion) in order to hit clippers well and consistently.

Just finished a solo session..couldn't keep the endurance I had yesterday. Numerous excuses: knee pain just started, feeling a little bit under the weather (Cold-like symptoms).

But..still managed to have a decent session in the 30-45minutes I played. Made a new self record: 26 consecutive strong side mirages!

Couldn't even hit 10 on my flipside though..but I have a theory that I was really tired after doing the 26 so my flipside suffered as a result. I'll have to try starting flip next time. Hit flipside symposium mirage>(*cough* toe delay*)>strongside symp. mirage. ..Had to link 'em somehow :P

Drill legover to legover furiously..wasn't as successful as I thought I'd be.

A few good runs..maybe linked about 6 tricks tops (Real links..no cop out toe delays).

Always tomorrow.

Internet was down for a few days, so a couple sessions didn't get logged. What a tragedy.

On Thanksgiving night, after eating until pain, the NRFC reunited.

Though I had 4 pieces of pie prior to the session, I gave it my all with Mark and Funk. Funk impressed me with all his fancy new tricks, and showed me how to symposium pixie. That trick is pretty sweet, and I realized what normally would be my flipside is my strong. Fun stuff. That was a couple nights ago though, and I can't remember much worth noting.

Yesterday, however, Mark, Fletch, Chad, and I had a sick session at the Hermosa Pier. Many hot girls blatantly showing off like cancer had already been cured on a Friday holiday afternoon.

Was especially proud of hitting symposium mirage BSOS, thrown in with my usual arsenal. Next to that..had some fairly long strings, which was nice.

Sick. Sick. Sick session. Big Add Chad + the NRFC will always be a fun time in my book.

Then..last night Brett, Fletch, Mark, and I had a session in the Shredport at Mark's. I swear I hit like 20 consecutive legovers....but no one was counting, so I guess I'll just have to do it again.

Hit pixie legover! Such a sick trick. I gotta school that, cause it's just plain fun. I'm all about the 2 dexes.

Schooled symp. pixie a little..and just the usual

'Tis good to have all the NRFC around.

Happy birthday to Fletcher.

We shall have a fat session today in his honor.

Too many people came home for Thanksgiving this weekend. Because of such hectic activity, I put off all my work 'til tonight. Got what needs to be done done..sigh, one day at a time. I'm glad everyone is going back to their respective schools..now I can get back in my groove.

Anyways..because of a bunch of lame excuses I didn't have a chance to shred yesterday..but I made up for it with a worthless session today. Mark, Funk, and I played at Mark's for an hour and a half? I dunno..for some reason I was playing very poorly. Tired from not playing the day before? Makes no sense to me.

I have bags under my eyes. I hate geology. I never want to hear about emeralds again.

Until tomorrow.

Short-but-sweet session with Brett tonight at Anderson.

Worked pickups a little bit and they're getting better. I need to work clippers SO MUCH but I just can't push myself to do it. Leaving it to solo sessions, because I like to get longer runs when I play with others.

I stole a street cone from Manhattan Beach strictly for dexercise. It's not a cone type cone..but more of a flat, circular base with a hollow cylinder sticking out of it. I cut the orange cylinder to a suitable height for dexercising. Hopefully that will help out with my ATWs/pixies/fairies.

I had a good run which consisted of: mirage>pickup back to back follow by legover BS.

I challenged Brett to hit symp. mirage>legover>symp. mirage, but he had to leave...so I told him we couldn't leave until one of us hit it. He hit the first link a few times, but couldn't pull off the last symp. mirage. I finally hit it and we booked it.

I'm trying to SLOW DOWN my runs and force my style to be a bit more fluid, because I feel like Chris Pinkus. I wouldn't mind being like Pinkus if I could be more consistent, but I think my speed is causing me to be sloppy. So I'll have to wait 'til my tricks are dialed before I start going crazy-fast like Chris.

Time to shower, then dexercise while I watch some Law and Order. Oh yeuhhh.

Until tomorrow.

Session with Brett. Played at 3 different spots tonight..all because of lack of lighting. Started at Anderson for about 20minutes, then went to the racquetball indoor courts. Those guys charge waaaayy to much, so we only put a dollar in the machine, just to try it out. That bought us a good 10minutes.

Finally ended up in a parking garage in downtown Manhattan..which isn't bad. We'll probably go back there sometime. Because of a couple challenge from Henry G., I was working my SS mirage....which just turned into my drilling ATWs, cause those are way too weak at this point.

We got side tracked and were just trying to kick it 100 between the two of us. Brett pulled all the weight.

I need to actually school clippers and nothing but clippers, instead of just saying that "I need to school clippers." I think I'm going to do nothing but clippers every solo session, until I can do 20+ consecutive..just like when I schooled toe delays. I need my clippers to be like a catcher's mitt for my game to progress.

i'd say still practice all your toe stuff maybe just do 50 clippers each side every session. that way you wont lose consistency with all your other stuff and it'll get even better. clippers are just too frustrating at first to try exclusively i think.

I agree with Fletch. Dont exclusively practice clippers, but do practice clippers EVERY day, even on days you dont have a regular session. Do 10 min of clippers every day you DONT sesison and 30 MIN on days you DO session.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY HENRY G AND HIS "SS MIRAGE." You're actually just hitting a frikkin' pixie! Dont call it an ss mirage, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease. Its a pixie. Pixie can be hit as an uptime move, as a midtime move, and as a downtime move, but its always pixie. There is nothing mirage-like about a pixie. Just so you know :)

Thanks for the advice guys..that sounds reasonable.

Had a session last night in MB with Brett. Lasted about 2 hours. After some warm up kicks we just schooled clippers for about 20 minutes. I'm glad I'm actually seeing progress on that front..reminds me why I play footbag. My flipside is still pretty terrible..it's just very hard for me to get that foot flat. As for my strong side, I've got the delay down pretty consistently, but often times when I set it the bag goes into my upper lung region on that side (left side, right foot clipper). I think it's because I'm overcompensating when trying to flatten out my foot, causing the angle to be too sharp inwards...If that makes any sense.

Drilled ATWs...saw some progress in that, considering before last night my flipside was fairly non-existent.

Pretty good session...the definite theme was progress. Manifest destiny.

I was planning on going to the Bay Area this weekend to see a friend up at Berkeley..but I think that fell through....SO I'll just have to play net and shred. Bummer!

J-j-j-j-jawsome solo session tonight in MB.

Duration: 1.5h

Mad schooling of the ATWs (both sides; out-in, in-out).
Consecutive records:
  • Strongside: Out-In x4 (Maybe 5) and In-Out x3
    Flipside: Out-In x2 and In-Out x2
Progress.

Besides just straight drilling ATWs I also threw them into my runs..which was nice because I don't have a huge arsenal under my belt.

Schooled clippers...hit strongside clipper>strongside clipper several times. Glad I'm starting to be able to set it straight up. Didn't neglect my flipside one bit..and it's coming along very slowly, but very surely.

Hit clipper>mirage once..wasn't the first time, though. Not drilling that right now until my sets are (much more) solid.

Besides the minor stomach cramps during much of the session (I don't know what I ate..but I gots tha runs! ... ), I had an amazing session. Not amazing in the way that I hit nemisis amazing..but fun, and just what footbag should be.

I <3 footbag.[/list]
