Where to get small plastic gears?

Does anyone build small projects involving the use of small plastic gears? I would love to buy an assortment locally, but I dunno if I can find that. I went to Jameco.com and they have gears you can buy individually. I was also thinking of lego gears, but maybe they're too toyish.

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to build an electronic lock that includes a motor moving the locking metal part. I'm thinking of a rack and pinion type of thing right now, but I wanted to gear down the motor myself to save on space and money.

I would look for wind-up toys at the dollar store. I remember I once had a set of wind-up chattering teeth that used a small white plastic gear.
