Seattle Juggling and Footbag Festival 4 (official)

Well that was an awesome tournament. There were so many talented players there it was incredible. The thing that stood out the most was the almost complete lack of noobs!! I couldn't even believe it, basically everyone there had been playing for over 2 years at the least. Crazy stuff.

The Montana crew was probably the most amazingly improved crew of the bunch. Those guys must be schooling night and day, because their games have just gotten amazing! I was very impressed. I was especially impressed by Evans multiple sick 3s during the comp. HUGE props guys!

The other most improved person was of course Sam Potter. This kid is incredible, his runs are absolutely badass, and I can tell he has a good mastery over a great many fives. His form is super impressive, and he seems so light on his feet. Sam is the shit, and if he keeps up his rate of improvement he will be up there with the greats.

Byrin and Kevin were great. Kevin hits some crazy ass toe combos, I couldn't even believe it. Super nice guy, and great form. He is definitely the canadian pinkus. Byrin is an extremely humble goddamned power-house! He can hit the hugest moves, and his runs are off the hook! His osis freeze is crazy, and then he zooms out of it to crazy stuff. Saw him hit [Crazy Byrin Freeze Zoom Set]>Void BSOS! PROPS TO BYRIN!!!!

The other canadian dude Rory was also awesome. I didn't even know he was coming to the tourney, I was really suprised! He was all over so many moves, and his toe spinning is like what!?! I really like that kids humor too! He says the most direct random things ever. haha That's what toe inspinning is all abooot! (I loved that video )

The Randazlizer was sporting my hoody that he stole from me when we were kicked out of the hotel at CSS. He used that whole getting tossed out on our ass thing as a diversion to steal my shit I just know it. He was also guiltless now! He was hitting a lot of great stuff, it was really fun to play with him again. And hey, I'm not that old beotch!

All the super-pros were of course amazing. Jorden was hitting some insane stuff as usual, and Lon and Jim went off. Their competition was awesome!

Oh yeah, Nick Landes... Just stop playing please before the whole world has to bow before you. Stop now... for the good of humanity.... seriously.

Nate and I had a lot of fun, and partied mostly at the hotel. Fun times, the hotel room was insanely large and we definitely threw down on the partying. At least we didn't get kicked out this time.. Pheew!!

Well thanks to everyone who put this tournament together. I had an absolute blast, and it was great to see all my friends again. Pete, maybe we will get to kick together at the next tourney

I just wanted to briefly say thank you to all those who put that together. It was so worth the 30 - 32 hours of driving we did to attend. Seattle was also bigger than we anticipated .

It was so great meeting everyone, and seeing the Montana crew again. James, Nate, Sam and Nick are the coolest facking people, I can't express how much I enjoyed kicking with them. They are so very talented, and it was always a blast when I kicked with them. You're all welcome in my teeny home in Onoway

I'm also very satisfied to have kicked with Lon, Jim, Daryl, Jorden and Peter. Such epic shredders and I had the privilage of kicking with them. For some it was the first time, but it is definitely not going to be the last. Next time I hope to lay some smack down with them .

A fuckload of thanks goes out to James Randall and Mario. Thank you for letting us crash at your place James, and then convoying it up to and from Seattle. Also for the hotel room. You both made our trip so much easier, and so much more enjoyable.

I wanted to say thanks to everyone who was there, this was one of my favorite jams ever. I especially wanted to thank Sam Potter, not just for being super awsome and letting Shawn and I stay at his house on Saturday, but after I got sick, he gave me some cold killer that spanked my cold like a 5-year-old red headed step child at Wal-Mart. I was actually able to shred on Sunday cuz of his remedy. And now the rant about all of the crazy shredders who were there -

Elli - Holy shit, i've never played with Elli before, but he is SO good. The one circle I was in with him was crazy, he hit double blender like it was nothing! Also, one of my favorite styles... so my favortie shredders to watch are now: Sam, Lon, Elli, Byrin, and Allan (but in particualy order)

Allan - Definatly a crazy shredder too, and although I've played with him a couple of times before, he seems to get smoother every time, and he hit some sick stuff in the Big 3 comp, major props

Edmontin Crew - HOLY HELL! I dind't realize how strong your posse was until I shredded with you guys, and you all were laying it DOWN! I hope to shred with you guys soon, REALLY soon.

Sunny and Daryl - A plesure as always, although I didn't get to shred with either one much, I know that they were sick, and Sunny has gotten so much better, I played with her for only 20 min, and I could tell she's been skoolin everything.

And the thing everyone seems to not have mentoined.... The huge faking rippin run between Jim and Jorden. Both of them were completly busting out hardcore, barely any BOP. Jim hit Blurry Blender BSOS, Jorden hit Locomotion and other crazy stuff. Couldn't watch both at the same time, so I hope somone puts out a vid of them.

Lon was doing the usual, hitting massive tricks withought effort, making everthing look easy.... like scorpoin's tail to spinning blender, which made me think, oh I can do that! (I failed, it's so hard) Plus, a FACKING 252 SHRED 30 SCORE!!! WTF, he's been skoolin hard, and it shows.

All in all a great jam, I just wish that I didn't get sick half way through and could have been in full form.

I hope that someone else has the time and energy to write up a good review of the event. Maybe I will later if I get motivated to but right now I just feel embarrassed. Sorry guys.

PP was created to encourage footbaggers to look at footbag in a different way. A way that does not encompass the shred, shred, shred mentality that so many of the newbies have. We want them to look at it as a tool of creation, performance and a way to express themselves. Also the ability to be able to get in front of people and exute what ever they are performing with total ease and comfort ability.
Many of the PP express themselves through performance like Josh, Toby, Pete, Alex and Kevin and there are other such as Lon and Jorden who simply embody the creativity and the ability to add performance into their styles. Like themed runs or focus their practice on things that are stylistically entertaining. Not only is Jorden such a creative and unique footbag player I watched him juggle and apply the same attributes into his juggling.
To answer Jordens question No and that is not all you have to do to get in. It is how we approach are hobbies. Some look at there hobbies simply just to execute them and that is were the receive there satisfaction. Others like the PP look at their hobbies as ways to create, entertain and express. I don't want to speak for these people but it seems to me that Lon and Jorden both hold those qualities.
This sounds very serious but we beleive if footbag is ever going to go somewhere we need to apply aspects that are entertaining over shred like Jorden, Lon, Alex and Pete have done.

Props to the Seattle crew for running such a great event. Turn out was high and it seemed everyone was having a good time. Personally haven't been kicking much since the last Portland event a couple of months ago, and it went the same for last weekend, but instead I got to witness a lot of great shred. I was very impressed with the advancements a lot of the new guys have made. Nate and James were tearing it up as I have come to expect, but brand new to me was Byrin, who was putting down some really intense technical and spinning combinations. I wanted to see him kick more with Jim, Lon and Jorden. I really like Louis (forgive the incorrect spelling) and his smooth relaxed style of play. Props to the whole Montana crew, great shred and team! I also liked the Nick Landes/Sam Potter circles. These two are definitely the next generation of the northwest scene. Sam is really precise, and Nick is becoming an alien with his style of play. I can tell these two are going to push each other's game. There were at least 5 or six other guys who's names I still don't know, but were shreddin' it up solid.

As far as the super heavy hitters, it was between Lon, Jim, and Jorden, no question. I couldn't decide who's game I enjoyed watching more. Lon was all about style and flow, Jorden was bringing the increadibly unique combinations and moves, and Jim just brought the thunder. I think Lon broke his 30 second shred record. Jorden hit an insane four dex seven add move in the trick competition. I was really proud of Jim, we have attended pretty much all the same events this summertime, and with each jam/tourney/festival he continues to improve. This was the best I have seen him yet. I can't recall how many fearless combos he performed, but it seemed to be pretty much his main focus at Seattle in the circles, many a time rattling off 10 fives in a row or more. His last fearless ended with 15. I also witnessed him pull Arch Nemesis at the end of a session on Sunday. I hope someone puts out some more video of what he is doing now, it's pretty intense.

Anyway, again, well run tourney. Good times, and good people.

This year's event was EPIC. I think we had more footbaggers turn out than ever before. The highlights of the weekend for me were...

-Tu Vu arriving last minute

-Artis the Spoonman arriving unannounced at the Renegade Show on Friday night and laying down a show stopping performance

-The performance and interpretation of The Mariners Revenge with six members of the Performers Posse including Jorden (to his surprise )

-I played footbag for the first time in almost a year

-Steve Goldberg kicking it like a stone cold savage

-Jordan and Clinton tying for first place in the cool trick contest
(Clinton rotated two small hoops around each thigh while balancing a hat on a cane on his chin and juggled four rings. Jordan hit some footbag trick that I can't understand)

-Brad Upton's set at the Using All Four Limbs show. Special thanks to Brad for agreeing to perform. Brad Upton is a national comedian with his own Comedy Central Special.

-Staying up all night Sunday with Pete, Aaron, Allan, and Matt to drop Pete off at the Airport

-The Manray and what happened afterwards

Next year's event will be bigger and better that this years. Planning has already started. The venues will be better. The show will be more dynamic. The gym will have better light and be less slippery. There will be extra rooms for workshops and you'll be there because you are not going to want to miss the biggest footbag tournament on the west coast!!!

I would like to thank everyone who came out to the event this year especially the people who had to make long flights and drives.

yeah man

this was everything that i have come to expect from this event, which is pretty high. So many highlights. Most of mine are the same as Zerbe's. My favorite part of this event every year is kickin it hard with my homies Brothers From Different Mothers, who I will Big Up right now for throwing this monster for 4 years in a row. Kicking it in Olympia when late nite Daryl, Sunny and the man Jim Penske show up and after an 8 hour drive Penske walks out in the garage and lays down one of the baddest shred sessions I've ever seen. I agree with Red that Penske was better than I've ever seen him. He was absolutely outrageous. HUGE highlight of the weekend: TU HUGE basically showing up out of the blue. That was classic. The renegade show, big highlight. Jordan in the big trick contest. 30 second shred dropless Penske followed by dropless Lon!! Epic. Seeing and kicking with people like Eli and Allan. So many highlights. Espresso, comedy writing, poker, Kevin Richie, Evan Lovely, so many great folks. Most special was the unending last night, which was the craziest night of the week. It was an adventure only witnessed by a lucky few, yet that night will go down in the history of SJFF as one of the most epic.
Much love and props to Alex and Matt, Justin, Sam, and the seattle posse for a killer event. I'm already looking forward to next year.
