There's some serious misconceptions about women/shreditas in this thread - too much to write here. However, you can all blame society for brain-washing us beginning day 1 of our lives...you can not escape the gender type-casting because it's absolutely everywhere, so don't try to make it better by justifying the circumstance -- instead, acknowledge it, be aware of it, educate others and take responsibility for your own actions. to say more would be a novel, so that's all i guess. what would happen, if i´d ask some pro footbaggers and all say no? or just one person out of a circle says no? can´t i film that circle any more, because one of four doesn´t want to be filmed? when i´d hear to many no´s i´d loose my fun on filming and maybe fun on footbag...

I agree it´s respectful and kind to ask, but there is no real NEED to do so! i got that and from an objective point of view that´s all right! but why do people blame other people for filming? there´s no need of not beeing liked, just because i didn´t ask. i could say the same, i don´t like people who wanna be asked to be filmed
. TWO sides who are able to react respectful, if the one side behaves wrong , there´s no need for the other side to do the same mistake...
it´s all about respect, but it´s also about tolerance. be tolerant and don´t judge people because they´re filming without asking, maybe even those people can be nice... if more players would say what they´re thinking about being filmed, filmers would more know how to react. and you can´t assume that everybody reads all internet forums or know "footbag etiquette".
this was much more my personal point of view...
but maybe i´ll even think about all this and ask next time... just to respect other oppinions.
my way of thinking is being honest and not just polite for beeing polite!
P.S. I felt somehow attacked as a filmer, when i first read this thread, it´s like all filmers are unfreindly and paparazzi if they don´t ask. next time i´d really like to have some more differt point of views, more than just saying: fuck all filmers! or just filming disturbes! I know nobody has written it in this form, but many people didn´t really argue and didn´t say one positive word for filmers! Some did and i appreaciate that kind of thread much more!
when i read some posts i thought talking to 14years old kids who didn´t really think about argueing! this is no insult, just my feeling!

You are at a lake. You are on a boat on that lake with a friend. You guys decide to do skinny dipping. As you get back into the boat you see someone on another boat filming the both of you.
So you are saying it's alright, seeings how you and your friend are in a public place? The filmer didn't have to ask to start recording? That you should respect and tolerate him?

Here's a little story:
Ryan Mulroney regularly visited San Diego when he lived on the West Coast. On one such occasion, Abshire, Caro, and I met Ryan at Crystal Pier (our locally famous shred spot right by the beach). It was an average day in most respects, but a stranger and his video camera changed everything.
We all kicked our hardest for about 1.5 hours, when Ryan decided he was finished. Three of us remained, and decided to push it a little longer despite the intense beating of the sun. After disappearing into the ocean, Ryan returned to the spot to watch the circle and let the salt water evaporate from his shorts. My place in the circle happened to be right in front of him, and when I tried a certain new trick for the first time and hit it, the dexes happened to be right in his face. Though the move felt effortless and very clean, I was somewhat bewildered that I hit it first try, so I was inclined to ask Ryan if it was clean. He casually said, "I don't know. I wasn't watching." Fair enough. My back faced Caro and Richie, but I was content because it felt so clean it couldn't have been 'the'.
Turning back toward the circle, my eyes crossed the path of a guy filming us from across the boardwalk. He had been shooting us for about 30 minutes, which was a somewhat regular occurance for us (at Crystal Pier), so none of us paid it any mind. I thought, however, this would be a perfect opportunity to see the move I just hit, and possibly get a copy to use on a video. I walked over to him, said my "what's ups", and asked if I could watch the move I just hit. Without hesitation, he rewound a few minutes of tape and passed me the camera. I pressed play and put my eye to the viewfinder. The footage before me was which I least expected: a myriad of extreme close-ups on our (Ryan's, Abshire's, and my) glistening, bare chests and backs, butts, and crotches.
The man's thoughts as I watched his camerawork were unknown to me, but I decided to continue watching until I came across my trick, in case I could see the dexes. Of course instead of dex, I saw only my ass, and so momentarily I returned his camera, simply saying "It's not on there," and walked back to the circle.
I told them what I had just witnessed, and we all had a pretty good laugh. Ryan admitted to sensing the guy on his "gaydar" (gay-radar) earlier on, but there was little or nothing to do about it. Richie looked a little uncomfortable, but continued to kick. Caro of course was mostly unaffected, but probably enjoyed the irony, herself disagreeing with my choice of showing "hotties" on two of my early videos. I myself didn't take offense, and found it quite amusing- if nothing else, it would later make a great story.
Now the relevance to this topic, I would have been absolutely outraged if this guy had been filming Caro in the same manner, or if he had put any of the footage online or for sale.

Yes I can understand that. And I know that Fred and Pierre are sometimes VERY close when filming. But they also have a second approach which is pretty good: they say "look, we'd like you in the vid we're making, and we'd like to have some nice shots, so could you give us one hour, and we'll set things up nicely."I've watched some videos where they are just too close and that would bug/annoy me.
If you've seen Sick 03, there are certain sections that were filmed this way. Karim & Silwan Daouk and Sammy's sections were filmed that way, over a week-end Fred went to Lauzanne, found a nice well lit spot and told them: ok you play HERE, facing HERE. And there you go, you've got some nice shots. Frank Remy's section was also filmed in one hour.
Finally there are some shots of Vasek playing alone in a big stone plaza of types (with lots of shots from over-head). that was the same deal. Fred asked him if he could take an afternoon to take some nice shots, and asked Vasek to take him to a nice place in Prague with cool views. End result is a nice video. You just need the time I guess.
unrelate: UNANIME have a new project in the works. It won't be a video just a couple of clips, and they should be free to dl.

I think filming at an event can basically just be like...a given? Maybe I'm crazy, but events are for filming, right? I think if you have a sweet angle of a shred circle that you know you won't get again, then take it and ask after, maybe? I mean, no matter WHAT I'm filming, whether it's for shred, class, or for fun, I still ask. Some people just don't like having a camera in their face. As for shreditas being filmed in a 'sexual manner', I think that stuff is really bad, especially if it's without their consent. I wouldn't mind if some cute girls were filming me playing without a shirt on or something. That'd be sweet! But I dunno, when I see a shred video, I want to see shred, not ass. If I want ass I'll go download some pr0ns. Yeah I dunno....I think definitely permission should in all cases really be asked for to do filming.. It takes no time to do so, and that way you prevent having people pissed off at you. Maybe I'm just crazy though. Bah.

The topic seems to have changed but IMAO if there were women showing their sexuality and shredding at the same time it would bring more women into the sport, I dont think it would alienate them (some current women players may not like it though). Kinda like Anna k. and the williams sisters in tennis.
