30OCT2005
I started playing with my mind in the right state, but my body wasn't following. I kept messing up simple sht. So I decided to just drill some inifinities. That got me pretty warm.

Drilled 40 flip whirls. I hit 4 in a row! They felt good and styley.

Then I did some gyro mirages. After a few BS, I tried a Vortex and hit it after 2 tries. Then the rest of the session was trying the other side. I hit it...finally.

During practice I learned: set close to the body and not too high and turn fast. I'm still not sure if my drifter leg should be in the air coming out of the spin or fast right after completing the spin.

I randomly tried the other Vortex again after I hit it BS, and I hit it again!! It kinda sucked cuz that meant I had to hit it on the other side again...but I did. So: 2x Vortex BS!

31OCT2005
I only schooled 40 flip whirls. I wasn't in footbag mood again - physically. Last night I was. I was feeling it. Outside of the movie theater in the parking lot, with pants on, but oh well. I really need to get hyped again. Music? Kicking with others? kamil? tim? Didn't do shit for Halloween. Watched a scary movie by myself.

01NOV2005
I called the special events office and asked about footbag being in the festival just to make sure that things are going well. She confirmed that footbag is happening. I haven't talked directly to Scott about it, since we leave that to Zeke. And I just wanted to talk directly to the source because, in addition to other reasons, we want to take a more active role in running the event.

I didn't realize that I was talking to such a direct and involved person, and happened to mention that we would like to take a more active role in running it (I might have used the word "supplant"), to which she replied, "Does Scott know?" Apparently she was already aquainted with Scott and the event.

I asked what is necesary to be involved, and she said you just submit a proposal and they evaluate it. I don't know how Scott's hookup was involved then. They said they evaluate based on how much interactivity you can offer to people coming by. That's a new goal to have since the woman felt it was lacking somewhat and we were segregating ourseleves.

hours later played footbag, and many more hours later am adding...

Beforehand: 4x[20 pushups>stretch>20 reverse pushups>stretch], walked the dogs, then watched some James footage.

Then started off with
20 swirls BS (40) (been a while)
40 flip whirls

then tried to string a while, and was sucking ass. I was setting my stepping set into my leg. I tried to do a 2 move combo of 2 moves I can do pretty well. I couldn't do shit. I was so pissed. For a while now I feel like I'm not playing well. I got this feeling that I should quit: I don't have enough talent, etc. etc. I tried to make myself believe that if I tried hard enough that I could overcome it. I wasn't necessarily buying it or at least maybe not wanting to. I started thinking though, that maybe why I was missing so many of my old good moves was because I've been drilling so long that my strings suck ass now. Sometimes I tell myself that I should never practice stepping moves because i got them dialed and don't have to. However, I decided to school 2 move combos including fundamental moves:

10 ripwalk>drifter BS (20)
10 blur>paradon BS (20)
10 smear>eggbeater BS (20)

This was just what i needed. I focused and made that stepping set good again. The first combo was pretty easy. The second - I was dying sometimes. I learned though that I just needed to do my double downs faster and that was the ticket. The last combo was a killer as well - flipside that is. I kept wacking the flip eggbeater with my leg.
My problem is that I keep trying after I'm hella winded. I could simply wait, catch my breath, and prolly hit it. Instead, I keep trying till I'm thrusting all my energy into every try and breathing really really hard. I hope that it'll pay off (stamina maybe? or more?). That's not why I do it; I just want to keep trying and hit it! I sat down a while, then did the obligatory

10 flip pdx whirls

I was gonna do torques, but they are very energy needing.

I ended up very pleased, and optimistic about better future strings with this kind of training.

02NOV2005
Erik Chan day

Reile, Zeke, Josh, Nathan and I came out to meet Erik. I played horrendously. Couldn't hit nothing to save my life, and I kept trying and trying. Erik seemed cool. he spins and ducks alot; I like it. I always wanna play well when out of towners come, and I never can. At least the spot was pretty snazzy, though, we almost had to kill a nigga and throw him in the river cause he wanted to debate semantics and get up in our face.

03NOV2005
Erik Chan Day 2

Met Josh and Jake @ Millenium Park @ 3pm. This photographer intern for the Red Eye Newspaper asked if she could take some pics of us. Even if she wasn't sweet and hot I would've said yes. She was laying on the ground and taking pictures :), using light devices and stuff...I was getting ready to be directed. I hope she got some good shots; alot of footbag shots can come out messed up. I will scan the newspaper if I find it. edit: I didn't do this

Later Zeke, Kamil, Erik, Nathan and Jon came. Tim came later later - but at least came.

I played alot better today, but still not great. It was really fun though. I hope Erik had a good time. Lots of people took pics or video of us (since Millenium park is such a tourist spot).

Afterwards we went to Potbellies and ate some delicous toasted sandwiches in the outside tables with plants surrounding us. We talked to Emily on the phone. I hadn't heard her real voice in a while. I was afraid of the awkwardness that sometimes comes when you haven't talked to a friend in a while and there's nothing common to talk about, but it was the total opposite - smooth and fulfilling.

~~~Non footbag~~~
After jam, came home, took shower, hooked up with tommy and went to karls to play poker.
Started off shitty with some jackasses on either side of me commenting on every hand like they were on ESPN...like they were fuckin poker savants...it made me sick. Using all the lingo, calculating all the odds, acting like they were cool. I'm used to a friendly game on thursdays. But these new guys sucked! And I'm so glad they lost!!
Later another game started with the OG's. I played after hating the first game i wasn't gonna but it was all the friendlies. It was really fun. I won! First time winning. I was lucky...I must've had like 5 full houses.
Later, for celebration, Tommy and I wnt to TBK and got super Nachos and 711 and got Iced tea...then went to his house (which I haven't done in over a month) and watched Naruto - finally. We have been wanting to have the mutual time and opportunity to star watching again. Episode 90 - finallly back on track.
A very very full and fun day.
04NOV2005
No footbag today. Went up to lane to play but noone was there, so drove to Zeke's house. We talked about NYJ among other things. Some things we talked about was entrance fees and shirt designs and sponsorship.
13NOV2005
Didn't get together with everyone today. It's getting cold. I don't know what's the dillio with this winter in terms of a spot we can all go to (still have the far ass deerfield mall), but at least I got my basement hooked up, so i can kick down there. Tim's house is prolly not gonna be an option this winter since he doesn't play footbag now or hang out :(.
I played for a while today. some stops. went for 3 move combos:
~~~~~
5 terrage>symp mirage> pixie butterfly BS (10)
0 flip far swirls (tried alot)
1 ripwalk>drifter>blur BS (flip drifter made it really hard to hit one side)
2 toe DLO>pixie ss clip>pdx DLO BS
2 DLO>symp mirage> symp illusion BS
2 Gyro mirage> butterfly> other way gyro mirage BS
smear>eggbeater>pixie butter (good side; good eggbeater)
smear>eggbeater & eggbeater>pixie butter (flipside)
1 spinning clip>ducking clip>blender BS (fucking fun ass combo)
~~~~~
The first combo was supposed to end in fear, but I'm not too good on those. I should keep the ones I'm not so good at to 2 move combos maybe. These numbers may not be big, but I assure you that the attempts were very many. It was really fun to just move on to new combos. And to think of new cool ones! I did each of the combos once BS then I decided to try and do them again BS. In all cases I kept in mind Jeremy's advice on landing the previous move well in order to set to the next move well. It helped alot focusing on that.
NYJ
I didn't make a website, but did certain things:
talked about / decided on (some) events
update the shit outta the NYJ thread with info
talked to Scott. i have a post about this from last wed/thurs that I'll put up.
Got some great help/info from Emily.
Found out about hotel prices
took on responsibility to produce t-shirts exclusively
learned about what types of sponsors we can have (still need to ask q's monday)
talked to Johnny
more I'm not thinking of
Need to do:
Talk to possible bag sponsors (Me or Zeke to coordinate)
Find out who wants to stay in room AND reserve room
Update/remind/entice people to come out to NYJ
talk to/confirm special guests
think of ideas to help with shirt design
count ahead of time how many shirts to make? (maybe)
more I'm not thinking of
My body was so sore (from the day b4) that I didn't play. watched that stylishfille vid - so good.
15NOV2005
I took like an hour to warm up. Stretches and pushups. lately,I'm not very active during the day, so I have to warm my body up from stone stiffness. Played about 1.7 hours with breaks of course (watching WSOP). I'm still kinda pissed about not hitting that many of the following combos. I feel like I should be, but I am trying and honing my attention to good linking.
1 ripwalk>drifter>blur BS - flip took a while again
1 DLO>symp mirage>flail BS - easy
1 spinninng clipper>ducking clipper>blender BS - fairly easy
1 smear>eggebeater>pixie butterfly only one side - so hard flip (no BS)
1 gyro mirage>butterfly>gyro mirage BS - took a while today
1 terrage>pixie ss clipper>pdx DLO BS - kinda tough (many attempts)
1 drifter>ducking clipper>whirl BS - really easy
1 fear>toe barrage only one side - fricken hard
0 flip flurries
0 gyro whirls
Played with kamil! Yay! He cleaned up his garage. Fun sesh. I hit:
~10x Wonton butterfly 1st time (Spelling?)
2x Wonton Mirage 1st t ime
drifter>swirl>reverse swirling pickup
Kamil was playing well. He had some bad Karma attack his shoulder though :P
17NOV2005
Probably won't play today cause I'm so busy. I just called Juan and James. I had a great conversation with James. We talked for a while. He's going to see if he can get the days off for NYJ. I left Juan a message.
Having significant others balance your checkbook is what losers are for. :o
Wow. I appereciate all the comments in here guys.
18NOV2005
No footbag today. I did however start a NYJ website.
I also had a good convo with Reile. Nailing stuff down. Found out about the Rochester New Year's thing. I think it's cool that Matt had the initiative to make something happen when CP fell through, but I also can't help but feeling a little shafted since he may be stealing peeps away from our event. Then again our event is in its 6th year now, it has a good (long standing) reputation of being fun AND promise of it being the funnest ever this year (they'd be missing out).
Jake told me he could make and donate some bags for the event. Awesome!!! Also, I gotta help Emily and John Mahood right now for their help, but just a little bit. I'll save the rest for after the event. :)
Call me when you got time, I just thought of some ideas about the shirts. I was in the process of typing up an e-mail but lost it when hitting the delete button several times and instead of erasing several letters--- the web browser went back a a few pages and I lost everything I typed out.
i dont want to turn this into an argument on toms blog, but in my defense of making a very sexist remark is i do alot of things most guys dont. I do my own laundry i cook my own food breakfast lunch and dinner daily and i actually cook on the stove top not just microwave, i wash my own dishes, i do all my cleaning myself (even my bathroom) and i use an ironing board to make sure my dress clothes are wrinkle free. I would never say any of those things are my gf`s responsibilities cause im not sexist like that. But i really suck at keeping my finances in proper order and have no shame in asking for my gf or a lady freind to help. Typically girls are much better at keeping more organized than guys.
So I dont feel like im lazy or stupid i feel like i have my weaknesses and that weakness is keeping my finances organized, So i perfer to have Girl freind to help me with my check book and finances.
Am i unorganized YES
Am i a loser NO!
I agree with you Shawn. My GF had her books balanced to a tee. If I wanted my stuff balanced I might ask her. It's similar to how I'm good at fixing computers. A friend would probably ask me to fix their compy simply because I'm skilled at it, and not because I'm the stereotypical sexy greek man who was born for such tasks. Poker fo sho on thursday.
Zeke - I'll call ya.
Jeremey - Hi :)
2 rip>drift>blur BS (flip side drifter link still sucks)
1 barrage>op whirl>DLO BS
1 spinning clipper>spinning clipper>barrage BS
1 spinning clipper>drifter>gyro mirage BS So fun!
1 DLO>DOD>DLO BS
4 flip FLURRY - first time hitting flurry flipside...I figured I'd hit it a few more times...bwahahahahaa.
