To be clear, that was a reference to spinning (potentially painful) glowsticks and poi.

Yeah, this grrrl has real talents in the dark.

Who would have thought someone so talented couldn't walk and carry a box at the same time.

Obviously someone who hasn't been exposed to my extreme oafishness.

Amelia, lets play footbag tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry Em, I didn't see that post about wednesday.

Sat Beach Top session:

We got a late start, but ended up playing for about two hours. I thought I was going to die by the end. When we first got to our shred spot we saw there was a wedding ceremony beginning. I warmed up and worked on clippers, and out of nowhere I hit strong clipper>mirage. I should have known that hitting it during warm up was a good omen. I had to stop and watch while the wedding party walked down the aisle to Shania Twain's From this Moment. Very good choice. I think the colors were black, silver, and red: bridesmaids in silver and bride's parents both wore black. An interesting choice since they almost looked like they were at a funeral.
Back to shred I had a good run with legover bs and at least mirage bs and maybe clipper bs. I also hit mirage>clipper>mirage again. I really love hitting that combo. I should think of something to hit on the end to make it three tricks. Then I decided to work my flip side. Wouldn't you know it? I hit clipper>mirage flip side AND clipper>mirage BSOS. Now you should be excited about that, but wait! I hit mirage>clipper>mirage FLIP SIDE. Now that is spectacular. After that I was mostly dead, but Jeremy kept challenging me: three consec mirages on both sides (hit 5 strong, 3 flip), clipper>ss clipper (hit bs), clipper>ss clipper>mirage (did not hit), mirage>pixie>legover>clipper>mirage (came very very close).
I watched Jeremy attempt consec barflies, he hit 5. He also hit stepping osis repeat, symposium bubba beater, AND barfly>grifter. He impressed some kids and I taught one how to barefoot stall.

Really good sesh, no? Dat's on his way here, so I need to shower (he has a keen sense of smell)

Hey,

I just wanted to say that i was really proud of all of those combos you hit, especially to witness you hitting them in person. It seems like every time we play, or every time I see you play, your abilities are increasing and that is really cool. I hope you realize just how far above your footbag expectations/ preconceptions you really are. :D

LOL, I'm sure the guys weren't nearly as appreciative! And the thanks (or blame) goes to both CIC and Cloud 9.

Monday Tennis Court session:
Back from the east coast - weekend of no footbag what so ever, yay!
I think I'm jet lagged.

flip pixie>mirage>pixie>legover>clipper
pixie>mirage>pixie>legover

clipper>mirage>legover>legover

I tried illusions for the first time, and Jeremy was afraid for my life. Isn't that great to hear when you're trying a move? I also worked a small amount on clipper set from far toe, and then was able to hit two butterflies. Can't wait until I can hit it bsos all the frickin time. bah! It was good to see Dr. Ridiculous again. Met Fletcher for the first time, look out for his blog b/c it will be cool to read. On a non-footbag note: bad amelia hasn't finished her applications yet. =(

[edit: add]
Friday tennis court session:

I hit my best run today which included all my standard tricks (mirage, pixie, legover, clipper), both sides, almost twice! So it was about 15 contacts. I had another run with all of them bsos, but it was not as long. I tried throwing in pixie clipper at the end of runs, but I didn't hit it.
I ate the third best salad ever! It was from a Sri Lankan restaurant: the poppyseed salad.

Sunday 30 min schooling session before 49ers game:

worked for 15 min on pickups, and I hit a few nice flipside.
worked for 15 min on illusions, but didn't hit any.
last run of the session I hit pickup BSOS!!
oh yeah!

[edit: add]
Wed session in the garage with jeremy before lost:

hit pretty much nothing, but it is worth noting that I just had a session three days ago. i don't usually do that. so i wanted to work on incorporating the pickups into runs. strong side is ok, maybe i hit it 50% of the time when i tried to throw it into a run. other side i needed to drill for a while before i felt confident enough to try it in runs. i tried legover>pickup and got close. i worked on clippers from far toe so that i can work on butterflies more. i did hit clipper from far toe>mirage on my flipside, which is impressive for me. jeremy wanted me to try pixie set to same side clipper (i think), and in my head a had a full-on blonde moment,
"I don't get it!!"
I tried it a few times, but all I got from J was,
"Well, I thought you could pixie set!"
Try not to swoon over how sweet and supportive he is.

Saturday morning:
Another schooling session with J, meant to only be a half an hour, but someone can't stop playing when he's supposed to.
I hit my first illusions, both sides.
Which is ever so sad, since now I'm running out of twos to learn.
I worked on clipper>clipper, but when going from flip clipper>strong clipper I tended to try clipper>butterfly instead. Regardless, I wasn't able to hit it.

Saturday afternoon:
Our doubleheader day, second session was with Fletcher. I could barely move my left leg b/c it hurt.
I maybe played 45min total.
Happily, I hit mirage>clipper>mirage on my flip side and couldn't get it strong side.
I also hit clipper>pickup for the first times on BS! Yay!

If I were to compare you to a red haired actor in his late 50s-early 60s, it would have to be Robert Redford, because you are a natural . . . at footbag.
Every time you put your mind to something, you find a way to hit it. Can't wait to go to Chicago with you and have such a great time, but i hope we'll have lots of fun up until then too! Thanks for putting up with my footbag addiction.

I haven't posted for a while even though I have been to some sessions (tennis court, schooling in garage, at the park, with Fletcher’s friends, etc.).
Today I had a great session. It was super foggy; we couldn't even see the beach below the cliff. Then the sun started shining selectively over the water, through the fog, making the ocean look white like snow! Beautiful!

I hit 4 consec clippers strong side, footed the fifth
legover x 3, footed fourth
clipper>pickup more than once
clipper>far legover
butterfly bsos
butterfly>pickup

Attempted plo a bazillion times

I feel good.

Was so proud of you today! Your clippers are getting infinitely better. If you stick with them, you'll destroy your Chicago clipper goal. Feel better soon. Maybe we can have a session this week, just you and I?

I didn't want to have to make a new post, but you know - things.

Beachtop session for Jeremy's birthday weekend:
I don't think I hit anything new, but I had a few runs with stuff in them...
happy about that. It was a beautiful day. One of my favorite parts was when I was in the ocean, and an otter popped up right next to me, paws all curled up like it was waiting for me to take its picture. The next wave came and it was gone ... interestingly enough I get to go to my favorite place on Earth next weekend, and there will be otters there too.

Met Matt Kain for the first time, I guess that's significant to my footbag journey. He doesn't like Keira Knightly either. Told me to read Boris (?) after I finish Howard's End. And a bar tender told me Sierra Nevada pale ale was a good dark beer (confuse me?).

Mike, you left a sweater at our apartment... I hope you don't need it until New Year's.

cheers to Stephen's funny posts.

new year's jam

Post by Jackbag »

Tues 27th: Woke up at 3am and drove to the airport. Sat and slept on plane for a little over 4 hours. Baggage claim … there’s Dat! Waited outside Midway Airport for Mike-the best driver in the world-Hansen. Jeremy and Dat kicked a bit.
Since we had some time to kill before the CIC members were available, we toured around downtown. Stopped at millennium park and looked at cool art and laughed at kids falling down ice skating. We ate and then went to the hotel and chatted.
Once we got the word that the Canadians had been picked up from the airport we headed over to Zeke&Reile’s. Mike did a fantastic job of giving us an hour-long re-tour of the city before arriving at the long anticipated apartment. Super happy to see Tom, Zeke and Reile again. Mike introduced me to the best rut burr I have ever had!!

Met Johnny Suderman and Jorden Moir. Watched Johnny and Jorden have barefoot session. (Use your own imagination to fill in the surreal and awesome aspects of this occasion).

Wed 28th: First day of the jam. Woke up, skipped breakfast to get to the site “on time.” First people I saw (and later met) were Zach and Scott. To Jeremy’s chagrin I made him warm up with me, but then released him to the depths of shred, n’er to be seen again. I chatted with Emily while she warmed up, since we hadn’t seen each other since before the holidays.
I played on and off until the Sick 1 competition. I played with Shawn, Kaushik, Scott, Kyle, and Chris who were all very nice to me, which meant a lot since I was feeling fishy (out of water). I think Kamil graced my circle with his presence a few times too. I tried to get footage of the “epic circle” for Jeremy, since I know he was giddy about playing with Jorden and Johnny. See Krafty’s footblog for recap of Sick 1.
Mike let me make a peanut butter sandwich with his supplies since I was starving. And all of a sudden the WV crew showed up!
Note the fact that I haven’t written about what I hit, that would be because 1) I don’t remember and 2) it wouldn’t have been worth remembering. The meet and greet was more important to me.
Once the event was over for the day, Jeremy and I went up to our room to shower and change (yes! Not eating dinner after a session all sweaty and gross!) Then we went up to the suite and Tom organized ordering food. Good times ensued: chatting, eating, watching Bob dance to this theme song, etc. But I was drained, and wanted to have better shred the next day, so I went to bed early.

Thurs 29th: Tried to wake up early, but really didn’t. Ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant (Belgian waffles). At the event site Johnny asked me to join him and Henry G (whaaa?!!!!). I, true to form, couldn’t hit anything. Luckily the circle got bigger and I finally slipped away. I warmed up with Emily, and felt a little better about my game. I was able to throw in clipper>op clipper and a few butterflies. Kolo, Scott, and Jeff joined us? Kyle?, I think Tom stepped in for a minute too. Totally don’t remember. Kolo was cool, and super encouraging to me. He kept motioning for me to be more focused on playing, but really with all the cool people around, it was hard to care about what I was doing. I made a point to play straight until 1pm, since Johnny had mentioned that he didn’t see me play at all the first day. The competitions took a while to start, so I ended up kicking some more with Kaushik, Chris, Kyle, Kamil, Shawn, ?.
Shred 30 and Sick 3 competitions.
Then I attempted drifter: Chris said to jump to the side, Kaushik said to lift my knee, Tim said, “it looks perfect at first and then something goes terribly wrong at the end.” I am grateful for the advice and encouragement from that circle. Chris hit paradox drifter.
Shower, change, and then ate the most glorious pizza. Again more good chats and fun, and then bam! We were headed for a late night shred. “Ever heard the phrase ‘you break it you buy it?’ someone’s gonna go to jail, that’s all I’m gonna say.” And then we got kicked out. What to do?
Crotch Fire!!! In the side lobby. Johnny nailed me on the forehead, but Henry put him on the table. Then what?
Crotch Fire!!!! On the second floor, outside of the ballroom. Best ever! Can’t explain the fun. Frickin Mahood and his takraw throws.
And I was SURE we weren’t going to get it down when it got stuck. Glad I was wrong.
Cingular and Verizon session: hit pixie, footed butterfly. Jeremy hit - ps whirl, outside set whirling swirl, and whirr. Jorden hit - phasing osis, scorpion’s tail, and food processor.

Fri 30th: Last day of the event. Had room service breakfast. Much pain in my legs, especially my left shin. I decided not to play too hard, circle with Shawn, Matt, and Emily. Rippinest Run was that morning, and Jeremy and Johnny competed in the finals. Then Mahood wanted to see my drifter attempts, and I ended up just doing that for the rest of the day. He and I had a fun walk about the sports festival (m-a, m-a-h, m-a-h-o-o-d, john *clap clap* mahood *clap clap*). And he bought a beanie. Then brad bought a beanie. Then Jeremy bought a beanie and they gave me one for free! Zeke won four square, though he thought he would lose to the French Canadians. I never did hit drifter.
Watched the mirage races (wow Will Rockey).
A bunch of us went out to eat. Zeke’s hair is fabulous = I love Kamil’s boobs. Became a member of the teriyaki club. Luckily I had Thai Iced Coffee, because I had to stay up for the next six hours. Party at Zeke&Reile’s. Arm wrestling matches: I was 1:2, only beating Emily. Seriously I thought I was beating Mahood. I was so close that I was cheering myself, “you’ve almost got him.” Then he killed me. Jeremy beat me in five seconds, sweet of him. My arm still hurts.
People from Chicago sure know how to make you feel good about yourself (Kamil).
Crotch fire!! I think I got Brad, and was close to nailing Zeke. I’m sure the crowning moment was when Jeremy knocked a cookie out of Mahood’s mouth with a bag by throwing it across the room while lying down. Mahood was hungry….for the rose! I don’t know how we made it to 3am. Mike dropped us off at the hotel on the way to taking Johnny and Jorden to the airport.

Oh my gosh I can’t believe I finally finished this recap. And I don’t have the pictures yet, but I will add them. I think I’m sad that it’s over. Maybe ;) Definitely miss people.
