Ok so I discovered today that the model of g-units I got are number IIs and not the model people use for footbag. Un dettered I modded them anyway to see if they could be done. I've never modded the Is before but in my opinion the modding can definitely be done and is definitely still a lot easier than lavers although probably a little harder than Is. The inside part is actually really easy - the toe is a little difficult just to get started but once you get a start both are really easy. Took me way less than an hour to do all the modding and I made no cuts into the mesh (like I always do with lavers.

The significant difference that I see is the lack of a toe box. I was a little concerned about this and had a quick kick to make sure it was ok. I'd say the toe box is actually better in many ways as you do not have to cut away eyelets etc. (if you're into that kind of thing) and that means you can lace normally and all the way down. This means you can have the support from the shoes that they were designed for. Lack of support and a desire to lace normally was always my motivation for cutting the eyelets off lavers - it's great not to do that. I guess you're mainly stalling on the leather just above the toe box with these shoes but that didn't seem to be a problem for me at all. I think modding the toes a little more is definitely possible but I may buy a second pair to do this to as I'm a little worried about cutting the tounge off which may be a bad thing (i'm not sure).

As mentioned I had a quick session despite being injured and found them to be excellent shoes. I really can't compare them to Lavers yet considering my injury and the fact that they are brand new (and my lavers were very very worn so I'd expect it to be a difficult transition from worn lavers to brand new g-units but my first impresssion is very solid clippers - definitely better than lavers, much better support - especially in being able to lace all the way down, much better cushioning (although you can say that comparing any shoes to lavers) and obviously a much better clipper.

I guess the downside is the weight/bulkiness but that hasn't been a problem for me at this early stage. I could still hit double atw on both sides with the normal ease. Will wait for a judgement on harder moves - but maybe heavier, bulkier shoes will finally force me to learn low dex low leg speed moves like spinning.

Regarding the clippers. I could hit osis with my injured foot without putting any strain on it - meaning much less ankle crank needed.

This is a great point. I am going to be buying these shoes immenently. So can I get a shout-out from all the peeps who have purchased G-Units as to which sub-brand/style they have. I've noticed a few out there.

I would image the list looks like:

Jeremey: number IIs. (not the right ones, supposedly).
???: ???

Thanks!

@david: you should definitely think about coming to vienna a bit earlier, because kick-mas-jam is on the 17th of december and i think it will be worth it for sure! :)
about the g-units: yeah, i hope you can get them in graz, though i'm not so sure about it. you should have a look at ebay.at. sometimes there are g-units offered that only have to be shipped in from germany. so that's a lot more cheaper and you don't have to pay taxes. normally it shouldn't take long to order shoes from the us though. e.g. it only took me like 4 days to get my spenco insoles from texas. good luck!

Thanks for the shoe help! Also, I'm going to to post the vienna footblog regarding kick-mas-jam, so we don't clog this thread.

Had my first session in my g-unit g6 IIs. Hit most things well and even some new combos - whirr>blurriest and pdx whirl>flurry>legbeater so they have my full approval and I think they're probably better than lavers. Especially considering I haven't played for a week and this was my first ever session in them.

I need info, if anyone has it, please post.

* I have heard conflicting opinions about the G6 II. Some say it's OK (Jeremy) others that it sux (NuR). Anyone else want to add something here?

* Also, I am very close to buying a pair of original GUnits, though they are more expensive than the IIs. Unfortunately this seems to be an online affair because they don't sell the shoes in Graz, Austria. So... do men generally agree that the shoe size is 1/2 size larger than lavers? Specifically I wear a 13 Laver. Should I be going for a 12 1/2 GUnit or a 13 GUnit? This is really important! If anybody actually wears a 13 and then switched can you please post?

Thank you,
-David

g-units accomodate my wider feet better so I have them a half-size smaller than my lavers (9 vs 9.5)

Yeah, I have a pair of G6 G-units (I think they're IIs, not sure. They're the black/red/white color combo) and they're a size 9. However, for Lavers size 9 usually fits me pretty well, but the G-units I have have a pretty extended toe. I'm planning on getting another pair 1/2 size smaller for a snug fit. :P

Thanks for all the feedback y'all!

I just put a bid on Ebay today for some dope black-n-red GUNITS so my gangsta lean will be in full mother-fuckin'-e-fizz-ect!

 David

PS I ordered a half size too small based on feedback on this forum. Additionally, I got the originals, not the crispy.

I've been using G-Unit G6s (red and black) for about a month and a half. I love them. I found the transition from Lavers to be negligible... within 20 minutes I was adjusted to them. The pair I got was inherited from an Aussie shredder who bought them, modded them, and didn't like them. The only problem so far is the toe material coming apart, but that's due to poor modding (he was drunk when he modded them). Still, from listening to most people, it sounds like you need to be very careful when modding the toe area, and not cut too deep.

I find my G-Units much more comfortable than lavers, and they grip better too (i can play on slippery surfaces). The most significant difference are the insteps. They make osis and clipper moves significantly easier. I was a bit torn at first about this... as Dave mentioned, it feels a bit like cheating. But then, its easier to do clippers in lavers than in my civvie shoes, which are easier than playing barefoot, etc. The most important thing is that I have fun, and the GUnits help me achieve that goal.

I've had about 40 sessions in these shoes, on various surfaces, and the soles look to be holding up better than China lavers. Maybe Eli can report how his are holding up durability wise.

One last thought: 50 cent is a new rapper, and these shoes might be a fad in the shoe industry, like the Millenium Lavers were with Adidas. Considering all the new G-Unit shoe variations coming out these days, it may be prudent to stock up and buy a few pairs of the lowtop G6s before they are no longer available.

I like them so far. Clippers are too easy. The toe is excellent. The modded surface is really grippy. I still need to figure out how to control my clipper sets since the clipper area isn't as flat as with clippers. Sometimes the bag doesn't go up like I expect. One thing that was missing was a place on the tongue for the laces to go through so that the tongue doesn't slide down. I just cut some slits myself.

Those are beautiful pics, my friend. A picture truly does say a thousand words, at least when one works at making it so.

I'm getting G  U  N  I  T  S soon and these photos will certainly be my reference of choice.

I've just modded a new pair of G-units in the red/black/white pair and they're amazing. Not as broken in as the ones that Joe Kulacz sent me in through our recent shoe trade, but they're amazing nonetheless. At least they're not as rigid as Rod Lavers on the basis of they're soles' flexibility. Definitely a great investment, and I agree with Ken that it feels like cheating with the better instep. :P

But I did run through a problem with my new G-units. I've seem to rip out the outside portion of my right shoe from lacing them too tightly, and the fabric that covers that area seems to have popped a huge hole connecting to the sole of the shoe. What can I do to repair it? Nerves of steel, strong stitching and cement glue? Or something much more lenient? Help!

I just got my new GUNITS today.

They shur are purtty! I havin't really played in them yet since I'm waiting for my knee to heal, which should be pretty soon now.

I easily broke my OSIS record in about 10 minutes without warming up. I guess what they say about the GUNITS is true.

I have also put up a comprehensive photo sequence on what I did to modify them. If you are interested, it's only a link away.

Kind Regards,

I got the "Yankees" style 10.5's It's been 3 sessions so far, I think, and they haven't stetched to large so far .( I had the 10.5 red China lavers)

I think they are great. All the benefits that people rave about seem true.

Last session, my friend Derek came out to kick and he'd never seen freestyle before.

After a bunch of drops, he tried on Jauss's extra ,mod-ed size 11.5 pair, and we taught him toe to toe. and then he was busting alternating legovers, and maybe one reverse mirage...and maybe some stuff I dont remember....on his first shred session. He might be hooked.

HAIL the G-UNIT. lol

-----------------------------

If this pair stretches out to much, I might sell the other 10.5 pair that's not here yet. (If not stolen out of the mail).

They might be to pimp to sell ,tho.

Hey m8s,
has anyone experience with those g6 III ? I'm wondering about those, coz my footlocker(s) have (if they have g6) only the new III.
So I may have to buy the II on ebay or some online shop. I got a question however concerning the modded g6 in everday life. I really need some new shoes (for street using, you know, and I am actually (no joke) looking for the last 6 month. I used to were those converse all stars (what do you think playing with these?, i got used to, but i guess it sucked in contrast to others ;>), but they're just busted too fast (I cracked both sides of both shoes.. if i would play with them, tthe footbag would fall inside the shoe). So, do you guys wear your shoes only to play or also to actually work with. I mean, I don't wanna buy shoes for 85 bucks just to see them getting busted in 4 weeks because I cutted the sides.

ps: if anyone weres converese ~10, what size of g6 do you have? :o)

Uhh.. just found https://worldfootbag.com . I decided to avoid the problem concerning modding and bought some rod lavers (25 bucks shipping charges, but overall still cheaper then buying g6 here ).

GII review

Post by funklovesfootbag »

So i just modded a pair of G II's, and I like them.

The only problem i have with them is the lack of a toe box but that will only make me better. when modding, be careful on the tip of the toes, as i cut them away from the hard part and now have to superglue them back on.

clippers and osis seem strong, they have much better support than lavers but feel a bit bulkier to me.

one problem/question i ran into...the glue! Can i do the same thing as with lavers? soak in hot water and put them in the dryer?

not gonna throw out my lavers just yet, but i'll definitely be shredding in these quite a bit.
