Gym Session
When I started to watching this video for the first time, it was about 02:00 am here... I was realllly tired, and I wanted nothing but going to bed and sleep. And then I opened this vid... watched it... and ... I didn't want to go sleep anymore...
It's awesome... I wanted to shred sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much...

Thanks for the video as always Jorden. I really really enjoyed it! What can I say, you were good back when you played in Lavers, and now that you use cheating shoes, it's just plain ridiculous.
The whirr-highplains combo made me smile. Whirl-drifter repeat, multiplied by two... to me that is an 8 contact combo, but you made it a 4 contact combo
!
One last positive: The best string on the vid for me was the one in the beginning which was entirely genuine. I think this is the way of the future, people playing entirely BOP-less, or bail-less. I'm going to try and push myself to work in that direction too.
Thanks again for the great vid.

Actually, I completely disagree. This was the one thing I thought was weak in the entire video. All of the ripsteins in this vid looked very thin to me, and there was at least one where it looked like you missed both dexes. Considering how your double blenders are usually very clean, it surprised me some. I'd like to see you do the dexes much deeper on ripsteins.Uranos wrote: your ripsteins look awesome!

I'm not debating whether or not Jorden usually does good ripsteins. I am pointing out a trick which is thin/the on this particular video.
I like Jorden. I like Jorden's style. Jorden is good at footbag.
None of this is up for debate, nor does it matter.
The fact is, if you look closely at this video, there are a number of "the" tricks. The atomic spinning whirl was "the," there was a double helix in there which was "the,"a couple thin ducking clippers, etc. I don't normally bother pointing out "the" tricks unless its like a single trick video, or something submitted to the online comps. The fact is, people should always call the. People should get in the habit of looking for the. People should get good at calling "the." I know that calling Jorden on it will bring it to his attention (if he was unaware of it), and it gives him the option to work on it if he wants to. I only commented on Jorden's ripsteins in this video because somebody specifically complimented him on them. If somebody hits a trick thin or the, and gets props on it, that encourages everybody to lower their standards.
If I put out a video where I thed the whirl on whirlwind, and I got a bunch of props on it, then not only would I (me specifically) not have any reason to clean it up, but everybody else who sees the vid and the props would think its fine to hit it the, or even emulate me. People look up to Jorden and emulate him. If he's hitting something "the" and getting props for it, somebody needs to call him on it, so others don't mimic it.
I rewatched this video and counted 5 ripsteins. The first two had bad angle, but judging by the height of the set (based on the speed of his dexing), they looked like the style of ripstein where the swirl set is shoey or the, and the second dex is good. The flip ripstein in the last string didn't get either dex. You can draw a vertical line on the screen, and chances are the bag is cutting a line through the shoe, if not straight missing the bag on some frames. The strong side ripstein on the last string was shoey. The 3rd ripstein in the video isn't close to ankle dexes either.
Maybe its that I'm old skool, and remember Jon Schneiders ripsteins, where he gets both dexes by his ankles. Vasek's ripsteins in 2004 were good about 80% of the time, but at 2005 worlds he was probably down to 50%, and there were legions of other people who were theing swirl sets blatantly all over the place. If shoe dexes are thin or the for whirls and double over downs and single swirls, then the same standard should apply to ripsteins.
I'm a huge fan of Jorden's style. He hits ridiculously big moves and combos, and is incredibly original. Going for such big stuff, yeah, there are bound to be some thin or the tricks. That doesn't take anything away from him. That said, if somebody gives him props on the internet for a trick which is thin/the/badly executed, I'm going to call it. Similarly, if he were to "the" a trick at a Sick3 comp (like he did at Worlds 2004, Worlds 2005 1st round, and in the Danish Champs 05), then he shouldn't win/advance on those combos either.
Vasek thes tricks. Felix thes tricks. Jorden thes tricks. You the tricks. I the tricks. But we should call each other on them, and recognize they aren't personal attacks, but rather an attempt to improve each other and elevate the sport.

I can't speak for Nate but I know I wasn't and still am not arguing any of your points about the etiquette of calling 'the', Ken.
However, videos can indeed be deceiving as Nate pointed out. There's always a lot of hidden nuance in a player's style that is very, very hard to pick up in a video of such relative low quality. In such a fickle trick as ripstein (in both execution and difficulty in calling 'the') I would say in a lot of cases video is not an effective tool to determine cleanliness. I don't really want to get into a debate over Jorden's game or what he laid down in this video, and I don't really want to take this any further off topic than it has already been taken. That said, I'll be quiet now.

I watched this video a couple of days ago. I remember several things but one that sticks out more than the others is a torque in the middle of the video. Yes a torque. Just plain old torque. It sticks out because Jorden makes it look soooooooo easy it's disconcerting. Jorden like a very few other top notch players makes footbag look SUPER easy. Damn. Props.

I appreciate your honesty, Ken.
Ripsteins are a quite recent addition to my game, and by no means would I expect myself or anyone to call them perfect! There are many degrees of cleanliness to this trick and I hope to improve that.
There are a some ugly executions in this vid. My main goal was to capture a moment in time and show how I was playing on that particular day -- the'd moves and all.
Edit: Thanks guys!!

hmmm... why do you want to show that you the'd moves?Jorden wrote:My main goal was to capture a moment in time and show how I was playing on that particular day -- the'd moves and all.
Anyway, I liked too how you and once more so genuine game there, genuine run(s) even.
And like Ken said, all footbag players should be aiming there. Like some people aimed to play guiltless 20 years ago.
