wow Jon, it's too bad you've been going through so much stressful stuff in your life, at least it's clear you've got your head screwed on tight and you're being logical about this all.
Relationships can be really tough at times, I hope whatever situation you wind up in is one that makes you happy. Glad to hear that Laura forgave you, it's unfortunate that you have to cut out something that you like doing though. But perhaps it's for the best in the long run, weed kills!
I really want you to play lots of footbag, but I guess ultimately you're the one that has to want it too. You're really talented, I'd love to see where your game goes down the line.
I will be in the GTA sometime soon, I say we have a big Ontario jam!

After a 28 day break from footbag I played leggy sack with Chad on Sunday. It was a lot of fun. Footbag is a very enjoyable sport and I hope to start training again.
I spoke to Johnny on msn for a while last night and was inspired to play more. With that in mind we agreed to play this weekend and I think that this coming session will give me the motivation I need to get back into the swing of things. I am going to try and play for the next four days in a row, taking a break on Friday to make time for RIM's Christmas party.
After this coming weekend I hope to try and arrange footbag sessions near me for the following weekends to keep me motivated up until I head home for Christmas.
My parents are moving from Victoria to Calgary because my father was offered a very exciting new position and as such this will probably my last trip to Victoria for a long while. I am heading home on the 24th of December and I hope to play in Victoria. Last year no seemed to be around or rather I get the feeling no one wanted to play footbag with me so I didn’t play. I hope this year will be different and that the Victoria crew might be up to kick with me one last time. If however, they do want to play I hope to be able to show them an improvement in attitude and enthusiasm more so then any improvement in skill, although showing them some new tricks and consistency would be nice as well.
I need to appreciate footbag for what it is and enjoy it to its full potential. I want to improve my attitude first and foremost. Bodybuilding is great and I plan to keep up the three days a week routine until at least next summer but I need to make time for footbag in my life. I keeps me happy and I shouldn’t exclude the things my life that make me happy to try and gain some small improvements in physical appearance and strength. Sure footbag is counter productive to bodybuilding but not playing footbag is counter productive to my enjoyment of life.
------
I have been wondering lately what David Clavens is up to. He stopped posting and stopped making videos. I get the feeling he felt discouraged and unappreciated on these forums. I hope he continues his pursuit of excellence in footbag and I have the feeling he has been practicing really hard. I hope this winter he is able to push his game to new heights and I look forward to seeing his abilities next summer. I have always been a fan of players that take the winter to solo shred in privacy and surprise the world when the weather warms up. I think the world is in for a surprise if David is doing what I think he is. I hope that both he and Johnny can make it to worlds next year and display their achievements in this great sport. Good luck to both of them.

Jon, it's good to hear that you're pullin' through the stressy stuff, and that the ladyfriend was forgiving. It kinda sucks that you have to quit the doobies, but I mean, looking on the brightside, it's probably for the best. You'll be able to bust mad long strings...
or something. Anyway, shred hard!

Hit the gym doing chest/tris/delts then had a session. The session was in the same room as the break dance club, which was cool cause a lot of them are my friends and they always have good music.
I decided to try some new stuff just for fun. Before the session I had only ever hit two quantum moves, toe blur and quantum butter both on my strong side and that was like months ago and only a couple of times each.
Highlights:
quantum butter bsos
quantum ss butter bsos
quantum osis bsos
toe blur bsos
quantum legover bsos
At first I had to focus on what my leg was doing during the dex but very soon after I could just let it flow, dex the bag quickly and watch in amazement as the bag continued upwards into the air. The trick to quantums I found was delaying the bag very low before starting the set. The only bsos run out of the ones above that gave me trouble was quantum legover, it took about 10 tries and I ended up hitting bothsides for the the first time ever in the same run. Same for quantum osis as well I think. It also felt like it was easier to hit quantum out of a paradox mirage then just a toe stall. I did also experiment with hitting quantum sets out of pdx illusion and hit p illusion > quantum butter bs.
Then I did some fun diving, ducking, zulu stuff.
Then I hit blender bsos for the first time! I think I have only ever hit flip blender once before but it didnt seem that hard and it hit it on my flip a bunch of times.
Hit some stepping drills.
Gyro mirage bsos > lots of infinities (25 +) twice
Mobius bs (flip for only the second time ever - took about 4 tries)
Then SPINNING PDX BLENDER third try
for the first time ever.
I think the lack of footbag and the weight training must have helped my game or something. My consistancy is down but lots of things feel easier or at least more clear in my mind when I go to hit them.
I will play again tonight.

Thanks for the comments guys
Adam, one day of quantums doesnt come close to being dialed :p case in point for a week I could sym whirl no problem then all of a sudden I lost it. I hope that doesnt happen with quantums because they are neat.
Played last night after a leg session at the gym. Walking down the stairs to gym from the weight room was a task in itself. I spend a few minutes just trying to do a single clipper. My legs were so shot they just were not working. After a few minutes the pain disappeared and I was able to shred a bit. I only got to play for 20 minutes because my buddys were waiting for a lift home.
The only cool link worth mentioning was drifter > gyro osis > whirl. Also worked on a bit of stepping and really focusing on dexing the bag right under my knee seems to help. I am gonna play for a while tonight and my legs feel great at the moment so I hope it is a good session.

So I was a slacker and didn't end up playing wednesday night. I just stayed in with Laura instead. I did however play yesterday after the gym. I felt pretty tired after each string attempt and the session wasn't very productive. I did however come up with a cool sick 3 that I did hit. I now have to get it on camera and think up a sick 1 and sick 15 so I can be in the running to win that bag. I think my sick 15 might suck and don't really think I will plan it out but I don't really care.
I don't want to give away my sick 3 but it goes something like spinning trick > fairly uncommon trick > easy 5 add and I end up spinning three times throughout the sick 3.
For sick 1 I am thinking I wanna try to hit quantum sym whirling xbd rake. I have never tried sym whirling rake but some reason I think I could hit it and if so I think I could do it out of a quantum set :p
I got new snow tires on my car today because my car is a death trap, I could really use some a.b.s and airbags.
Shredding with Johnny this weekend is gonna rock! I will try to get the filming done for the online comp when we shred.

I also wish I could be there!
Props on all the new stuff Jon! You are an awesome shredder and I look up to and learn so much from you!
When did you want to have that pre-Christmas session? I know you are leaving on Christmas Eve... Seath is leaving for Ottawa on the 16th, so we are having a session on the 15th (it's a Thursday)... Probably at Humber College... I don't know if you can make it that day, but I'm also good for that weekend if that would be better for you. Or you could stay for the 15th and the weekend! Everyone is welcome! That would be a wicked fun couple of days!
Let me know!

Another day another post ...
This weekend was soo much fun. A couple of buddies came down from Toronto on Saturday night and we had a good time in downtown Guelph playing pool and boozing. I actually only had one drink because I knew I would want to get up early and drive to brantford!
So on Sunday I woke up at around 7:30, got all my gear togeather and drove to brantford to shred with the one and only Johnny. After getting lost twice I finally found my to Johnny's house
We went to a local boys and girls club where they had an awesome aerobics room for us to play in. Right next to that room was a sweet old school gym with lots of weights and equipement and next to both was a big indoor track.
We started shredding around 10:30 and it was just so relaxing and fun. I don't know if anything big was reallly hit but it didnt really matter. It was just a lot of fun playing leggy hop ball. Johnny hit some sick strings and came so close to hitting his shred 30 dropless. I managed to hit my sick 3 again and had quantum whirl off my foot a couple of times.
We played till around noon then took a lifting break
We were just messing around so we did lots of different things. Bicep curls, incline presses, deads, squats, calf raises, abs, dips, leg presses
(Johnny actually some presses of the entire stack with me standing on top ot it! HUGE!)
Then we played some more hippity hoppy and played some add on. We got up to 21 moves before I called uncle. Then began the footbag olympics ! We would run around the track then do 25 infinities then run the track ... up until we reached 100 in total. Another event was doing 10 squats of 135 pounds then a lap, 10 toe stalls, a lap, 10 ducking clippers, a lap 10 diving clippers (we gave up because they were hard and did 15 legovers instead, then a lap, then 25 infinities. It was soo much fun.
While we were playing add on this girl came into the room to organize the gym matts and was super impressed with the skillz. She asked Johnny if he had all his volunteer hours needed to graduate from highschool and then recommended his teach a class their to get some more hourse. She was really into it and took down all his info. He also got past the first round of screening having cpr training and no criminal record
Go Johnny.
The whole day was sooo much fun. Shredding with Johnny always is. We left around 2:30 and I am not even sure how much footbag really went down. It was more talking, laughing, working out, and a bit of footbag thrown in for good measure.
Then I headed back to Guelph to hangout with my buddies that were still in town. Then after they left I went over the Laura's.
I wish everyweek could be that good.

Camille, shred sounds awesome. Weekends work best for me but I could manage one evening shred. Shredding with you guys again will give me some much needed motivation. Sweet !

Ok so shred on the 15th at Humber College with Seath! Make it if you can... crash if you want...
Weekend shred from the 16th-18th!!! Anyone and everyone is welcome, and all are also welcome to crash! Tom I know your rents live semi-close-by, but if you feel like crashing you are more than welcome to.
Sorry to make your blog the place to discuss this Jon, but my blog is too dusty to pull out from under the modified bed, and this jam is too small to start a journies to tournies thread.
I should mention that my mom has a hot tub!
Excellent for the exhausted shredder!
Hey Jon remember when you and Johnny and I spent like an hour in the liquor store buying booze so we could get smashed in the hot tub to soothe our sore legs, and then we didn't even end up drinking that night OR going in the hot tub?!
If you guys crash for the weekend, THAT IS NOT HAPPENING AGAIN!
I'm so excited! Our little Ontario jams are always the bestest!

Damn, shredding that weekend would be soo much fun but I am not sure I can. Laura's last exam is on the 14th and she wanted to spend the weekend togeather before heading back to Ottawa. We won't get a chance to see each other for over 3 weeks after she goes home so I think I am gonna stay in Guelph that weekend. It's a really hard choice to make as I know it would be a LOT of fun but I think I should spend the time with Laura.
I would however be more then happy to shred during the week or any weekend leading up to that time. Let me know.

On to the updates ...
I played last night so that I could be entered into the draw to win the Toby bag. I have never entered an online comp before but I really wanted that bag and for some reason I feel it should be mine
So I spent two hours on monday night looking for my camera's power cord and got my camera charged up for filming.
I took it along with a new tape and my tripod to the althletic center Tuesday night to get the footage I needed. When warming up I think I must have hit 50 + legovers in a row but I didnt coun't. I thought this was a good omen to start filming but just after these nerdy stick fightening guys came into the room I was in and said they had a class. They let me stay and use one side of the room but the entire time they were yelling for no apparent reason and their geekyness annoyed me to no end. I started with the filming and attempts anyways.
It took me sooo many tries to hit my sick 3 even though I had hit it twice before in fewer attempts. I eventually got it on tape and thought it was pretty good. I next had to decide on my sick 1 but this was harder then I thought. I thought about doing spinning blender but that is way to stock. I hit void, ducking pdx drifter, footed diving symple osis and tried paradox whirling swirl but still couldnt decide. In the end I went with something that was hard for me but with few adds. I will see how that pans out. The trick could have been more controlled but it was clean. I just wish I could endded it in an osis and thinking back on it wish I had hit quantum symple swirl instead. I will just have to wait and see how the trick I did hit stacks up.
Then I had to think of a sick 15! I thought I would just do a bunch of strings and pick the best one but then decided I should actually think up 15 moves instead of justing cutting a string off mid video and submitting that, which would have been kinda lame. I managed to hit my 15 about 1 minute before my camera battery died which was really lucky. I think all the tricks were clean but my torque and paradon could have been deeper. Also I shouldn't have done two pdx mirages and should have replaced some of the butterflys with genuine links. But seeing as how I did all three entries in one night I guess it could have been worse. Next time I will plan ahead and give it more time to produce more quality entries.
I have to say that I really like how these round of comps is promoting more people to enter. I know I wouldnt have entered if it were not for the random bag draw and think it was a great idea! I can't wait to see how I do in the comps and have my fingers crossed about the bag.
I think I might play again on Thursday. Tonight is leg day at the gym so I will take the night off from footbag. I am gonna hit my calfs hard tonight!
Peace and thanks for reading the blog.

Played last friday and saturday.
Friday was kinda shitty, I footed flip vortex but missed the seal. The session was lame though. My calfs hurt from the pounding that I gave them at the gym on the wednesday. But at least I finally found a good way to work them, lots and lots of sets and reps.
Saturday I played with chad. The session was fun and also frustrating at times. I had a few longer strings with some cool tricks. Hit spinning pdx blender again on the third try. Chad hit some cool rev whirl tricks. I got him to try gyro rev whirl which looked look. I tried quantum mirage but it was really hard. I am thinking that quantum illusion might be easier because you dont have to change the momentum of the dex.
I was gonna play on Sunday with Owen but things got messed up and my calfs still really hurt. But they feel better now and I gave them another good pounding at the gym last night and will try and hit them 3 times a week. My goal is to have Johnnyesq calves.
Also I forgot to post that at my session with Johnny I ducked a quantum set
just ask him about it, it was super clean
I am excited that my sick 15 is standing up in the online comps. I didn't think it was that great and I didnt spend very much time on it but I am happy with the results so far none the less. Seeing as how only 7 people entered the sick 15 and I doubt all of them entered the sick 1 and 3 as well I see my chances of winning the Toby bag as at least better then 1 in 7 ! Woot!

Played last night for an hour. Worked on toes and swirls.
Thoughts:
Swirl > Swirl is sick
Flip Swirl is hard
Ripstein is impossible right now
My flip atomic is bunk
Hilights:
DLO drill
dlo > dlo (ending on op side) [repeat]
Then I drove like a maniac to KFC to get some chicken. Toonie tuesdays rock.
Shredding with Owen tonight! SICK. I can't wait.
