Sponsors?

I think if we get more people asking companies for sponsors, the companies will start to think and wonder why so many people are asking for sponsors for a sport called footbag. I think it would help promote the sport a lot.

It would be hard to get a shoe sponsorship. The nature of footbag is that we cut their precious shoes to pieces in modding. They don't want to sponsor the destruction of their own product. It is also a very do-it-yourself kind of modification, which in their eyes is not very marketable. Shoe sponsorship would only work if a Footbag Shoe is marketed......that is when footbag will truly be able to grow.
Think how many more people would start playing if there were specific shoes which improved their game!! As it is, truly good shoes for footbag are hard to find and require modification even after they are bought.

Or they just don't show close ups of our shoes while we're shredding hard then cut to us doing a toe stall in the similar but un-modded marketed shoes

Yes, people should send letters everywhere. I would be more than willing to host a sponsorship campain around the world for 2006 using Frappr.com combine with a regulated list of people around the world willing to be corporately sponsored.

This is a great topic!

I think companies are crying out for footbag but they just don't know where to find it! Everybody is impressed by footbag, I get comments everyday when I shred in town, people tell me to put a hat down, or ask if a soccor squad has head hunted me yet lol.

Recently, because we were shreding at polytech, a lecturer from the Teachers collage of otago approached us and got us to do demo's and teach basics to 2 of her PE classes. It was a great experiance, and we even got paid!

The chain reaction from that ordeal is that she is willing to help us out with anything we need to do with footbag, she wants to distribute a footbag DVD i'm making around schools in New Zealand and ofcourse we will be going back next year to teach some more classes!

Bump, just because I think this should be an important topic, how about that sponsor campaign? We should start talking about this stuff, I think it really determines the future of the sport.

Yeah definitely. It's hard for me to talk about sponsorship for myself, cuz I'm still at a fairly low level. Of course, I would look like a pro to most casual observers, but still, I'd rather have someone at least guiltless represent.

One good way to get sponsorship I think, is to do what Matt's doing with his tournament. It's a great idea really. Red Bull will be sponsoring by giving away lots of free red bull. Sponsors love going to sporting events, and giving away free stuff. It's like what they do best. On the other hand, that will only get you so far.

Q. What are your current sponsors?

That's the #1 in the World talking about sponsorship woes. If we want to bring real paid sponsorship to the sport, we're going to have to bring serious media and fan attention to the sport here in the US, as well as get tons of new players into footbag over the next couple of years. We can't just start calling up sponsors and asking them to pay us. It has to start with the competitions, and making flyers for competitions, getting out and showing people footbag. It takes going to schools to teach basics of footbag. We have to promote, in order to attract fans, athletes, and sponsors.

Also, we need a product to sell, in order to generate money to put back into promoting the sport. Freedom has products, we as the footbag community need products as well. If anyone can make cool tshirt designs, we need that. If anyone can make awesome shred compilation dvds, we need that. If anyone knows java and web design, we need that. If anyone is guiltless, and preferably older than 14, we need them to set up demos of footbag. Lots and lots of stuff to do next year. It's gonna be a lot of fun!

Bringing lots of food and drink sponsors will help atttract hungry people to our events. Almost everyone is hungry. See my point?
