Old school RPGs

I have an itch to play an oldschool RPG. i just tried to play an awesome game, Beyond the Beyond, which i bought when i was 9 years old. but its a PS1 game, and i played in on my PS2, but i have no PS1 memory cards so i couldn't save it. what sick RPG besides chrono trigger, FF2, FF3 and the breath of fires should i play? i have beaten all of those atleast twice haha. oh yea neither of the Lufia's either.

anyone have any ideas?

Lunar Silver Star Story Complete (with the cut scenes) for PSX was sweet. It's basically exactly like those other games

I always wanted to play Wildarms...I bet that's really good... And if you want an AMAZING RPG that's a bit more graphically-inclined my favourite game of all time is VAGRANT STORY, for PSX by Square (guys who did FF and Chrono Trigger), speaking of which you could always play Chrono Cross...if I recall it was really different, but it's still the sequel, right? Anyway...Vagrant Story is UNBELIEVABLE...it's so medieval and original and serious and dark and awesome

tales of phantasia for SNES (gotta find the english version though)

it has arcade style fighting which is fun

secret of mana(snes) and ff tactics(ps1), both have unique battle systems and are very original. final fantasy2 and 3 (snes) are really good as well. Parasite Eve is a pretty cool game, it's not too long... I managed to blast through it in a couple of days, like 16 hours or so altogether.

unfortunately I had secret of mana stolen from me and to my dismay it was a super rare occult game

being the 13 year old that i was i couldn't cough up the 40 bucks for a used copy - i was only 1 stage from winning dammit!

Seconded. Also, if you liked FF2 and 3, you would probably also enjoy '5' (Japanese number) which was made between them but never released in english. You shouldn't have trouble finding a translated rom for it.

Dragon Warrior III for the NES will forever have a place in my heart. Some of my very favorite 8bit music in there.

I really liked Seiken Densetsu 3 for SNES (secret of mana something) -- I don't think it was released in the US but you can find translated ROMs online in various places. Awesome game, though. I highly recommend it.

if you like old school RPGs go get a cheap gameboy advance. They have a lot of old school style RPGs available and you can play them on the go. Golden Sun 1 and 2 werent bad, FF tactics advanced was pretty cool. Im sure they have a lot more as well.

yeah i played that ff anthologies a while back, but the 4th and 5th final fantasy games were lacking something.. they just seemed really plain compared to the others I'd played before

DUDE Dragon Warrior is the shit!!! All of them are sweet in there own way.

Dragon Warrior IV was my fav, I loved the chance spell

Yeah, I forgot to mention, the original Dragon Warrior for NES was awesome. Uhm, I'm sure you have, but if you haven't played Final Fantasy VII for PS1, that's one of the best rpgs of all time. Also Legend of Dragoon was a really neat rpg. But, most of the games I've mentioned are PS1. I'd try and get a memory card from ebay or GameStop. PS1 had a ton of good rpgs. All this talk of video games has got me wanting to play my latest game...It's a non-rpg so I don't want to stray too far off topic. cough* PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE TWO THRONES* cough.

play Star Ocean, thats a pretty sick game if you ask me. or maybe even go even more old school to the super nes and play Terrinigma, that game has a pretty good plot to it

yea secret of mana was an awesome game. i've beaten it through atleast twice. FF tactics was good too. i got to level 99 with all my chars, and mastered like 80% of the jobs and got all the secret chars. Vagrant story was alright, i never beat it but got pretty far.

Yea chrono cross is the sequel, even though it has absolutley nothing to do with the first one besides little things. none of the characters were really intertwined which bothered me.

i bought parasite eve when it came out, and i didn't really like it very much for some reason. Wasn't like other square RPGs that i liked.

Seiken Densetsu 3 was pretty good, but i didn't like it as much as Secret of mana. the characters weren't as cool, neither was the magic. i liked how you could level up your magic sprites in secret of mana.

The golden sun games were pretty cool, they remind me alot of Beyond the Beyond with was for PS1. Although, i didn't like FF tactics for GBA. i felt like they took FF tactics for PS1 which was an amazing game! and butchered it.

FF5 which was later translated and put out with anthologies was pretty cool. i think thats where FF tactics for PS1 was derived. That was the first FF to integrate job changing and such.

I think im in the mood for some Dragon Warrior. i've played all of them, but never beat them. when i got into RPGs when i was really young, FF2 and those games just came out, so i got into them instead of the NES games. Ill go download an Emulator and the ROMs now

I played final fantasy from like age 8 to age 15

but then the 8th one turned me off of the new school RPG's altogether. Ever Play Super Mario RPG or Secret of Evermore?
