Hey
During my session today I started getting frustrated. I couldnt hit anything. I have only been playing for about a month, and just trying to get some basic tricks down but I was failing miserably. On the brink of giving in I started to turn off my cd player thinking "my dad will probably be happy Im stopping" (he is always complaining about me playing) Then I started thinking "what, Im not going to let him win" and bam my concentration increased along with my energy. I turned the speakers back up and nailed almost every attempt. I then started wondering what other people use for there motivation. So what inspires you?
EDIT: yeah Im lame

Playing alone for a lot of my time playing footbag, it's really REALLY hard to stay motivated. I actually just had a session like the one you're talking about like three days ago. Blind rage session, I called it. My inspiration comes from players AND just knowing that footbag is really the hardest game I've ever seen in my life and that our legs weren't meant to do this stuff. Above all things, muscle memory is a wonderful thing and everone has it. So it'll all pave out in the end. Some players I look to would be Eric Chan, Chris Dean, James Risden (favorite player overall), Lon Smith, and a few others but those are the biggies.
aaaand my parents hated me playing footbag for the first 6 or so months I started before I went to college and rebellion against parents will is always fun.
They still don't really like it all that much. . .

Yeah, I don't get the whole parents hating footbag thing. "Stop that cardio-vascular exercise right now and go back to playing video games!" I think some parents just think fun=bad. Maybe you could show your dad some really good shred footage. (Preferably a vid without gangsta rap lol). Then they may look at it as you trying to achieve something instead.
I played hackysack for a LONG LONG time. And there's a really LONG LONG story behind it too. But I'm not gonna bore you with that. My motivation comes from the fact that I now know it's possible. Before, when I used to hack, when I saw the occasional freestyler I would think 'Oh, that guy's super-talented, and there's no way I could do that ever.' And he was doing pretty basic bop stuff. Even when I first started freestyling legover and mirage were so huge for me.
Now, 8 months later I'm developing my own bop combos, hitting things like whirl, DLO, and drifter and I now know that if I keep playing, I will be able to nail blur, blizzard, and atom smasher in a couple months, and my strings will be a lot longer. And one day....I'll be able to hit some of my dream moves, like phoenix, void, and warp.
Also watching shred vids gives me huge inspiration. Even just going on flipsider and trying to execute moves that way helps.
Oh, awesome avatar btw Matt. Life Aquatic rocks hard.

i always shred to music and when a really good part of a song or a song that i really like comes on it really makes me put a little more effort into what im trying. i guess i give like 110% at the time.
Also if i just try and trick just for fun that i cant do and i come close to hitting it, that really makes me wanna try harder and hit that trick

It always inspires me when I feel a little bit like a one of the very good players when I do some move or during the string. And it's cool that it's often another one.
I like too when watching my shred on video I can say that I improved and my style is nicer, than it was last time...
