Just dug up a somewhat old Hi8 Sharp video camera..which only has an video/audio output plug. Curious what hardware(Those of you who haven't gone digital) use to capture video directly from your camera.
I was looking around at at analog video capture cards and I came across a decent one by Canopus..but it was about $250. I guess video hardware is pretty expensive, eh? Any tips you guys can give me so I can get my Hi8 footage on the computer and ready to edit?

If you just need an RCA in to capture the video, most TV tuner cards will work. Check this one out:

It even has an audio in. A card like this won't give you the best quality, but it is cheap.

26.99? Wow. I'll take one. I wonder though if it works in tandem with another video card...maybe tandem is the wrong word. But I have a half decent video card in my computer already, but it doesn't have video in. I wonder if I could use this one simply for video, and the other for video games.

Yes it will work with another video card in the system because that card is a video capture card, not a video card. It doesn't have any video out. It is a totally separate device from your video card (the one that processes the image, and outputs it to your monitor).Skippy! wrote:I wonder though if it works in tandem with another video card...maybe tandem is the wrong word.
