Sole Purpose welcomes Shawn Johnson of Ashland OR to the freestyle group. A freshman at PSU, Shawn came out and shredded with the SPF group Tuesday, and showed great potential with his Ripped Warrior, Blurriest, and Atomic SS DLO to name few. It looks like Shawn is going to be taking over the on campus club representation now. It's always good to have a connection on the inside! Hopefully Shawn will make Seattle next month with the rest of the freestyle group.

I finally got to attend a sesh with Shawn, and I must say that I'm impressed. He said he pretty much stopped playing for two years, but despite all of that he was damn good. Too many good strings to mention them all, but Brian hit Jani walker BSOS, that was pretty hardcore. Red, even though he was sick for the nth time. was still shredding through his head cold. It was awsome to see Andrew again, and he gave me a good fearless idea, and when I tried it, I pretty much got it. The combo was Blurry whirl - Matador - Barfry - P.S. whirl - Scorpion's tail. I hit it except the last one was off my foot  I also hit a string that started with Phasing gyro mirage, and also included P.S. whirl, scorpion's tail and Paradox Torque. Plus sooooo many trys at 69, but I never actually hit it, although it was off my foot 3 times. Good shesh, and I hope that next saturday will be even better when the rest of the crew shows up... *chough* Noah and Jake *cough*

Nick! Quit hitting those crazy ass combos and let me catch up already! By the way, barfry is a 4, not to detract from how huge that combo is. I can picture you hitting it really well. Looking forward to shredding with you at SJFF, homey!

Barfry is a 4??? Nuke same butter is harder than matador IMO, but if you say so.... I also forgot to mention that Red busted a new triple dex record.... He hit Jani walker - Blurriest - Blurriest, and it was soooooo crazy. I aslo have been able to hit a good amount of clean big walks and gyro blurs recently, surging is hard to clean, but if I get a slod set I can almost hit it mid string.

BARFRY IS A FOUR?? damn!

Don't let adds own your soul, Nick. Barfry would still be a cool move even if it was a 2 add.

where am I wrong here?

Don't ask me. :( I think barfry should be a 5, but adds are adds. Search somewhere for a discussion on nuclear and it should be explained. The adds don't detract from how awesome the combo is! Big props on the surging, too, man! I hit bigwalk a while ago but it's hard for me to keep my surging warm (cleanliness isn't as hard, but damn that's a hard set! :) ).

Nornmally adds don't matter to me, hell most of the time I don't even count x-dex.... to me sumo is 4 adds, but this is one rare case in which the adds of a move matter, becuase its supposed to be a FEARLESS combo, so everything has to be 5 adds. It's cool if it's not, all I have to do is put in another move that is 5 so that I can hit my first 5 5's in a row soon.

barfry is a 4 because it doesn't get a paradox add. It's a far tapdown persay

but holy shit nick! You are crazy now! Out of all of us that shredded last year at SJFF, I have improved the least :? Can't wait to shred!

Nick forgot to mention the long string he hit with Void in the middle. That fearless combo he hit was super smooth, and did not look too difficult to execute. Brian has been kicking great as well, furious bsos is pretty common now. Blubberman into Rubberman is pretty sweet too, though I think he is shy one or two moves to complete. Shawn keeps getting better as well, last session he was nailing Blurry Whirls and Food Processors that looked great. He's got a lot of potential. I would have completed that damn jani walker-blurriest-blurriest combo if my right knee wasn't still recovering from furious set on that side. I am proud of the team, everyone is kicking super strong. Hopefully all of the SPF players will be able to make it up to Seattle.

Recent Stuff

Went to see Noah's band a couple of nights ago, they were actually pretty good. Jay-Bonn was rockin' out on keyboards AND representing wearing his New Balance 300s.

Two new members joined the group, Matt Orme and Sam Sutherland. Both freestylers are still in high school, (17 and 15). Seem pretty serious as well, not guiltless yet, but both can hit some nice tiltless combos and are pretty jazzed to be playing. They will be up on the site in about a week.

Nice Sick 3s of the past week:

Training for SJFF4, and I've been hitting some pretty cool sick 3's and shred 30 stuff:

Blurry whirl - void - superfly
Matador - P.S. whirl - P.S. whirl
I've also got some of my shred 30 drilled enough to almost to it on command... but I wanted to ask, what is a cooler move: Motion or Barfly rake? I'm trying to hit this sweet sick three and I need to know what to finish it with..... and help would be great.

Yesterday I hit Janiwalker on my strong side mid-string, and I almost hit it BSOS. That was crazy, also some rev. Swirling pickup stuff cuz it looks cool. I love the barraging set, and after watching some Vasek vids, I found out a better way of doing it. See, I used to try and do a Symposium Whirling set into a steping/quantum dex, and I got a good set sometimes. But yesterday, after watching some of the last shred footage that I have of Vasek, I saw that the reason he went so fast with his furiouse sets is that he didn't bother with the whirling dex, he kinda pulled his foot over the bag and went straight into the quantum dex. I tried it this way and got a waist high set on my flipside.

SJFF4, here I come!

Last night's sesh was so sweet! Sean and I started shredding, then Brian showed up, then Noah and Red. Red didn't play at all, and we were all busting some fun shit, but after everyone left except for me and Brian, the real shredding began. Brian hit this insane combo with some hard 5's and awsome shuffle, then I htought to myself "If he hit a Jani Walker right now, it would be the best string I've seen him hit in a long time..." and right as I finished that thought... BAM!!! he busted on out like it was butter! Crazy stuff. I also sealed my flip Jani Walker, hit 69, ripped warrior, whirr and vortex in a string, and almost did Rubberman II. I came really close to flip 69 as well. Sean was hittin glonger strings and doing some really fun stuff. Of course, Noah was ripping it up, and doing some new moves with muted and symple. Great sesh, want to have another before Brian leaves for 3 months

The other day I saw a bunch of Hacky-slackers outside of a target, and I decided to kick with them... nothing to extravigent, maybe some "Jesters" and a few stalls. Then, one of the guys says "Hey Ryan, do a scorpion's tail!" I was like WTF?? this guy can hit scorpion's tail?!?! He then preceded to pick the bag up with his ankles and do a sort of hand stand and threw it over his back and head  (like a REAL scorpion would stab it's stinger) I told them "Oh, okay, you had me confused, that DOES look like a scorpion's tail, but that's also the name of a move that is a little advanced" Then one inquired as to what a REAL scorpion's tail looked like. When they passed me thier Knitted POS, I did a stall, and then busted out scorpion's tail with ease, then kicked a couple of times, and passed. It was some good times, and after that they asked for a demo, so I pulled out my abshire and then shredded it up a little... fun fun fun!

I really got to start kicking more.... I was just screwing around and I wasn't doing too bad, but it gives you that urge... you know the urge, to play hardcore, but I have to work, and there insn't anywhere to play. I'm going to bend for 6 days, and I'll be able to get a few sessions in there, but when spring comes around.... WATCH OUT FOOTBAG, HERE I COME!!!!
