Hey, this is to do with video so I posted it here.
This is a question for all those who have filmed and tournements such as the worlds before and have a good idea of how many tapes your likley to need.
I'm going to Australian nationals in Janurary and I just got a dv cam to take. I need to know though, how many tapes is it normal to go through over about a week at a tournement. It's likley i'll be filming atleast an hour a day over the week and dv tapes last an hour. I figure I won't have time to go back and wipe crap footage, so maybe I should take about 7 tapes?
Started with sparse low lines, built intensity with rythmic variety, went to 16th note lines in high register, than went to octives, than block chords for my last chorus... If you understood that last sentance than you should be playing music and not checking the internet.

yeh dude take as many as you can, that way you have enough if you film alot, but if you film less then it wont matter. I find i film LESS than i set out to, because either im too busy playing or doing some shit, or the circles arent film friendly etc etc
Bring more than you think you'll need.
Bring ten for the week-end if you think you can afford it; Even if YOU won't be filming all the time, maybe a friend of yours could film from the sidelines while you're shredding. Oh and no, you won't have time to derush and scrap footgae while at the tournament. I remember for Buda's Best, Fred and pierrot brought something like 30 tapes for the week-end......
to film for 2.5 days for funtastiks, i used just about 6 tapes. But all i did there was film. When you look at the numbers, it doesn't seem like i filmed alot, but filming a circle for 10 min feels like 45 min. So it really depends on your ability to hold the camera for long amounts of time. For worlds i used about 7 tapes, but it was my first time filming an event and i didn't have alot of patience with the camera.
Thanks for the advice guys! Are there any other advices u can give? Is it good to ask permission to film if you don't know the person shreding very well?
I can imagine filming a circle for an hour to get 3 video worthy strings, do you find you get very little good footage in the end? Say 5-10 mins good strings from every hour of filming? Or less?
That's a good point about having other people film for me, it's likly there will be a few others with the camera so more tapes will probably be a good idea
It sucks because at FFO when I was filming with a friend's camera, everytime I filmed some circle, nothing happened. Then I switched the circle and guess what, in the other circle starts happening.
So you really have to wait really long to get those sick strings captured.
Plus I got to know that half of my filmings where targeted to the floor for some reason. (Sorry about that, I guess I'll from now on concentrate on filming just with a tripod).
