Anyone who takes PC games over footbag obviously isnt very experienced.

I believe footbag can teach one more than most would think. Perseverance, determination, striving for goals, self-improvement...etc.

EQ did wonders for my vocabulary though, I kid you not. I learned many words from playing that game.

However..as for ruining lives, read thisthread. It's quite interesting the lengths the initial poster went through to play "a game." More interesting than that are how many people share the exact same sentiments.

Here's a link to an online-gaming support group, which has its own 12 step program.

You can call these people pathetic, or mentally ill, but these games can be more addicting than crack. I've never felt that strong an urge, but I've known people..and these links are proof as well.

Didn't mean to threadjack..rah rah, leveling up, rah.....

Or in Altered Beast when you get that thingy that makes you go, "Power UP!" And you finally hit beast mode!

man, that brings back so many memories, altered beast was so cool, the only thing was that it was too short of a game.

You'd be surprised, Henry. There are lots of people who play video games with as much dedication and as competatively as say, Vasek plays footbag, and also, it's 'underground' in a similar fasion to footbag. This includes international travel for tournament play. What the average person thinks about video games is about as accurate as what the average person thinks about hackysack.

The main difference is, there are people who make a living by playing online games competitively, whereas there is nobody who makes a full time living off of playing footbag.

There is another important difference to bear in mind: Nobody OWNS the rights to footbag. Pro video gamers are in some way beholden to the corporations which produce the games they play. The name and image of the games they become so great at are wholely owned by Sony or NES or whoever. Footbag belongs in equal parts to whoever wants to play it. Maybe in a practicle sense this makes no difference to anybody, but in some philosophical way it means something to me. Footbag belongs to us.
