Wondering about proper foot bag Etiquette?

Post by DeAdLY//diLLoN. »

Hi, Im pretty new to the REAL sport of footbagging, and I was just wondering if it is proper to call "footbagging" "hacky sack" or is this the non-proper name? I've always called it "hack sack" but never knew which is the correct term, "Foot bag" or "Hack sack" or both, if anyone could tell me it would help. thx.

You don't really have to spell hackysack anymore. The only time you have to say it, is when you're explaining it to someone who doesn't know what footbag is, ie. like what I'm doing right now. Footbag is like hackysack, except instead of kicking the bag, we catch it with the toe, inside, or outside of our foot. More advanced moves require you to move one or both legs around the bag then catch it again with toe, inside, or outside of our foot. Moving on, check out this site for tutorial videos of basic footbag moves:

www.flipsider.com go to practice room and there you have it.

also www.hackrifice.com under 'moves' then 'ye old add 2 moves' Good luck! :)

call it footbag if you want people to know how seriously you take it. call it hackeysack if you're a lazy bum who's content to just kick it around and have fun

just kidding of course. call it either one, just don't call it hackeysack when/if you're trying to promote the game - although, footbag doesn't sound so goofy as hackeysack does

Tom and I went to the printers the other day to order the New Years Jam shirts. The guy taking our order was writing a brief description about the art, " Aych, aye see kay- how do you spell hacky sack??

"You can just put down footbag"

"Oh, I like it, that's much easier"

FOOTBAG: it's easier

Well Remy, don't worry about the spelling of hkyslack

Hacky Sack is just a brand; footbag is the equipment and the sport. Freestyle Footbag is a real sport. If you wish to have it viewed as such, and not just as 'hacky slack'. Respect comes in the title.

Besides, footbag is correct anyway

footbag etiquette

always pick up the footbag by scraping onto your toe with your other foot. Especially do this with other people's footbags.

Always self serve in circles. it's worth it to get that one trick, even if it takes 10 tries!!

If someone messes up a trick, make sure to tell them how much they suck and how bad their style is. It will motivate them to try harder! Women players are especially responsive to this type of behaviors, so make sure to do it extra hard to them. We need more women players!

3 hack whack is always a plus. Kick it 3 times, then smack it with your hand at the other players! try to get people who are distracted or not expecting it.

When playing indoors in places with rafters, always kick the footbag wildly and as hard as you can. Stalling a footbag on a duct or rafter is a really hard trick, and widely respected in the footbag community. This trick is especially awesome if there are no ladders or poles around.

whenever the footbag comes within a 3 meter radius of you, attack it, all out. footbag is about spazzing out and kicking the bag whenever possible! feel free to steal it from your friends with a sneaky kick or hand whack. Don't let them hack it! footbag is all about messing everyone else up.

if you have some phlegm, or, even better, a lip full of chewing tobacco, just spit it in the middle of the circle. Then, you can work on your accuracy and target practice by kicking other people's footbags into the wad of gross mouth juices.

;)

the best part is, I've witnessed everyone one of these practices firsthand. Okay, maybe not the third one...

Matt dont forget that its proper etiquette to aim for someones cup, especially ones that are full and ESPECIALLY beer.

Oh you get extra props for catching a bag in your teeth in mid air.

Let's not forget that kicking the bag, or setting it, onto a person's face is called a "teabag." Whenever that happens, people should freely make fun of that person for having something similar to a scritum touch their faces.

Yelling "THE!!!" all the time is the best way to motivate other people, especially when they are performing their routine.

In circles you get 100 extra points if you manage to do both, destroy your friend's bag and hurting him (or her, even better) seriously at the same time.

Never forget how godly footbag player YOU are - and remember that the other ones want to know that too!

Never wear shoes or socks. But in addition to this, make sure your feet are so dirty (like serious black grime on them) and have like holes in the bottoms of them with like infected sores. Then, try to get the bag as much as possible. But when you do get it, just grind it on the ground with the bottoms of your feet or pick it up with your toes and serve it to yourself again. Your best move is shin kick, seriously chicks dig that a lot. Just to accentuate how cool you are, try mumbling incoherrently about hardcore illegal drugs and chime in with a half-slurred gangsta rap verse, followed up with a punk verse. If you look like an ogre, that's a huge plus. That's sort of the theme that most footbaggers aspire to. Make sure you wear some long shredded brown shorts and look as much like a caveman as possible. HAAHA oh wait, THEN go and like spit right next to a hot chick that's sitting there watching you. Make a big production out of it, after all you're a footbagger!

That is a guy I actually played with once, and it was the only time I ever left a circle because of who I was playing with. Lucky it wasn't my bag though :P

For sure, this is the comprehensive guide for all us aspiring kickers out there.

Another crucial point: regular rotation in a circle is for losers. Pass it left, then next time pass it right, or straight across. If someone remarks on it, say sorry and snatch the bag from the player you just gave it to, THEN self-serve.

This is how you make sure everyone sees your originality and respects your free spirit.
