I used to play MTG lots back in my high school years. Then I started to get drunk and stoned and kinda forgot about it. I think I've got around 3,500 cards stashed somewhere in my brother's qwansit (sp?). I'll have to look for them after I move tomorrow.

Many moons ago, I used to travel to and compete in M:tG tournaments. Then, I retired to became a judge. I ran tournaments at a local comic book store for around a years time after that before going cold turkey on the whole scene.

What are your colour preferences?

I tend to be a blue mage. I also really like stompy stompy green. One of my best decks is black. Come to think of it, the only colour I dislike playing is white.

With the new set Ravnica, multicoloured cards are back with a vengence. I have yet to build a deck with my new Ravnica cards since footbag has taken over my life recently. But soon, I will build a mighty red/white deck and smother the opposition.

Ahhh, M:TG. Its been a long time. I was pretty seriously into it in the year preceding my introduction to footbag. I quit Magic right about the time I discovered Freestyle, but it was a coincidental switching of hobbies, not a deliberate one (I think, but its been such a long time that its hard to remember exactly what I was doing and thinking back then). I just realized that new card editions were being released much faster than I was willing to try to keep up with, both in terms of learning the new cards and effects and possibilities, and more-so in terms of all the buying I'd have to do. Also, some releases were just very hard to get ahold of. Legends looked cool, but it was kind of hard to tell because I was barely able to get my hands on any of those damn cards, and then it was only like one month later that The Dark was released, but the problem was kind of the opposite. There was tons of that set available, they were everywhere. Feast or famine. I said "screw it" and sold all my cards in one bunch, for about what I figured I had invested in the game up until that time (minus the starter decks and booster packs I had bought for all my friends, so that I'd have some people to play when I got home for summer break from my first year in college).

I can remember some of the details of my two favorite decks. One was primarily green, though really it was based around the Black Vice. That was before they limited it to one per deck. It was a land destruction deck. Strip Mines, Ice Storms, Winter Orbs. I also had alot of little tricks in it. Lots of Dual Lands so that I could use nice simple little stuff like lightning bolts. I had one Underworld Dreams in there (a black enchantment, I think it did something like one point of damage to my opponent for every card they discarded [so ya see, I had them both ways: damage from the Black Vices for having alot of cards in your hand, and damage from Underword Dreams for getting rid of cards, and no choice but to do both of these things because I kept all our lands out of play with the Winter Orbs and various land destroyers {Stip Mines and Ice Storms, etc.}]), and the green base was stuff like War Mammoths and Giant Growths, a Berserk, and some Birds of Paradise 'cause they could also help me to use the Lightning Bolts, etc. The Birds also made good flying blockers, or even an unexpected killing blow from a Giant Growth and Berserk.

Man, that deck was sweet. Had a Mox Emerald and a Mox Ruby in there too.

My other good deck was all green, creatures and enchantments. It started out based on the old combo of Thicket Basilisk with Lure and Regenerate, but it turned into a different beast altogether when I got the Verduran Enchantresses into the picture. Then, with all those enchantments putting more cards into my hands, it became a kind of snowball effect as I just kept drawing more cards, casting more spells, drawing more cards, etc... It took a few rounds to heat up, but once it got going it was lots of fun. Aspect Of Wolf working with all those forests I was dropping felt good too. Yeah...

Fuck it, I'd trade freestyle for M:TG again without hesitation, though I suppose I would still like my cards back. The two hundred fifty bucks seemed like alot of money at that time, but in the bigger picture I suppose it would have been a small price to pay to still be able to play and kick ass with those mean decks. Oh well.

just to throw some numbers out there for you...

mox emerald and ruby go for at least 200 each right now. The duals go for about 30 and strips mines and winter orbs are worth a decent penny as well. Man, i never new so many people in footbag played. Right now they release a new set every 3 months which i figure is ok. if i had it my way they would be every 2 months.

i started into magic at fifth edition and the rath cycle. I stopped for awhile and restarted in onslaught block and have been going to all the local tournies since. I really don't have any of those old vintage cards so the only formats i can play are standard and limited, but i can do some extended since the sets just rotated when ravnica came out.

i also quit MTG shortly before getting into footbag, hackysack at the time..

Hahaha, I have a wombat, enchantress, fling deck. It's fun to play, but it loses often because it was built in like 5 minutes with little thought to it except firebreathe the wombat and chuck it at things. I always got a funny image of a wombat breathing fire out of its mouth being shot out of a cannon at something.

I've been playing since beta. I got a lot of my cards from people who quit playing. I own at least 7000 cards, if not more. I own quite a few moxes, but I don't play with them because my roomates don't own any and it would be quite an advantage.

Hehe, I left magic and started footbag about the same time too... how coincidental, we're all dropping mtg for footbag hehe. I actually wrote an essay in final year english about the difference between the cultures of magic and footbag, and their affect on me.

I just got a boosterbox of Coldsnap. I couldn't contain my excitement so I thought I'd dig this thread up. They're bringing back many of the concepts from ice age and now my ice age cards are no longer useless!! I'm happily opening boosters. WEEEE!! Snow-covered lands are finally BACK!!

The artwork on this set is very sexy. the lands are gorgeous. I can't wait to see what I can do with these and my collection. There's a tournament coming up and I'm going to totally geek out and try to win.

Holy wow I didn't think so many shredders played mtg. Ah well I think I'm slightly obsessed with it right now. I have 19 decks, the newest being one based around Zur the wacko from coldsnap. I've pretty much gotten everyone I know into magic so that I would have more people to play with. I learned from the great Nick Laroche but he don't play anymore.
I learned how to play when Mirrodin came out but didn't actually buy any cards until Ravnica. I don't really keep that big of a collection but when I get an idea for a deck I shell out whatever I need to make it, including appropriately colored plastics and all. It's retarded and I know it but I can't stop.
Wanna know what the worst of it is? I have a completely foil Bronze Bombshell deck

I love foil.
So maybe I should start bringing my decks to footbag tournaments hahaha.

I'm pretty much against competing in mtg tournaments because the only way to compete is to net deck one of the big decks going round like ghost husk, heartbeat etc. I won't play a deck that isn't one of my own creations. I think it's more fun to try to make good decks based around seemingly useless cards.

Oh yeah you know it was the pictures that drew me in.

Footbag and magic would be kickass...no pun intended heh.

I agree James. I have a deck that has only 4 creatures in it and also a few decks that uses the shittiest cards in magic. You must have a lot of cards to have 19 decks running. Otherwise, don't you find you're spreading yourself a little thin? I've got 7 decks I'm sustaining and I feel like they are spread a little too thin for my liking. I keep track of everything incarnation of every deck on my computer though, so it's ok to take decks apart. Mirrodin was a great block to get started in. It really turned magic around in terms of being much more playable with more possibilities.

Anyway, good times. There should be a few Magic decks to be brought to Kickass 2 for some non-footbag fun... but then again, footbag's way more fun. :p

i got into it pretty hardcore. i played a few draft tournaments.

i still got a few good decks floating around, like one with blue counterspell and standstill (landstill!) with stripmines adn some other crap.

i also got some recurring nighmares, verdant force, tradewind rider, abunch of shit.

id sell em if i could sell em all at once. (my whole collection ((6 ish thousand cards ((binder of rares)))

So, Like was said a thousand times by other people. I was totally not aware that so many of you guys played/play M:TG.

I started getting WAY into it about 3 years ago, and last year or so i played my last game to start getting my life in tune with school and whatnot. I played really heavy through whatever that set was(with the skullclamp that got banned:-P) and i played in a block style format and almost went to a PTQ, but opted out. I attended one to many draft tourney's and placed as high as 3rd(Drafting a WW/e deck that was a 40 card version of my tourney deck, before skullclamp was banned)

I always had a think for white and green. My WW/e deck was possibly my favorite ever, and I could pound holes in ppl in an average of 4 turns

so that was exhilarating. I was never into T1 play and revolved around T2 and Block formats *shrug*. I think I had my deck embedded into my brain to a point where I knew every possible move I could take with it.

Now i no longer play though, however I do sometimes enjoy watching other ppl engage in battles.

It's interesting seeing how so many ppl here play here. I'd have never known lol
