18-21DEC2005
Kicked @ kamil's on the 19. kicked at home on the 18th I think, though not sure. nothing significant.
20-21: sick. Feels like clamp around head. Opening eye hurts head. After nap on 21st, head feels alot better. Cough getting worse though.
I'm thinking of getting back into some drills. November and December have been pretty bad for freestyle. Not been playing much. it would help if other peeps wanted to play. Thanks for Kamil, though we'e only started playing again recently, as he's been busy with work. I have been chilling more with Zeke and Reile which is good.
New Year's Jam should be fun. I'm always really anxious when I'm hosting anything for the fact that I want everyone to have a good time. I s'pose I've done well enough and gotta let things fall how they will. I'm pretty proud of what we've organized, especially since it's really the first event we've organized. We've pretty much done everything save securing the venue, EVERYTHING.

Thanks Kaushik.
My head feels good, but I have a not so bad cough still. I kicked today though!
23DEC2005 ~2 hours
Awesome day! I went back to drills like a muff, though i need to do more combo drills, but I didn't wanna get stuck today.
20 swirls BS
Alternating, with toe stalls or clippers in between, and with smoe drops. I did get a couple BSOS
.
20 Ripwalk>drifter BS
As soon as my "flip" ripwalk got a little faster it was all good. fip drfter was good b/c I remembered Jeremey Mirken's words, "stall so u can set out of it." Sets a little lower helped not hitting my damn leg.
5 spinning clipper>gyro mirage BS
So fun! I couldn't even do either of these moves just a short time ago. The total key is set straight up (not too high for gymir), and to stall with intent to play out of. It was a little hard sometimes.
5 whirl>ducking clipper>drifter BS
stupid flip whirl wasn't working well, so only 5...it was only 2 for a while.
1 paradon>swirl (one side)
b/c jeff told me about it. hit first try on GS, but could't get a good paradon on my flip.
20 double switch overs BS (40)
So great! At first it was a bit hard. alternating. 4 BSOS (8), with toe stalls. The trick is to start high and dex fast. I didn't even have to hop later. as long as the dex is fast, and starts from high up.
. This is a good drill. I wanna throw this pup into strings more.
5 high plains drifter GS
They were all good, but the last one was super clean. Stilll can't hit every time.
1 Barroque GS
FOG BS
I started with flip. I was getting all three dexes every attempt (8 of them). Once I started the double leg over a little sooner I had it. I noticed the twist (after set) on my good side.
2 Paradox Ripwalk
from rt foot clipper. I tried this set only in one or two sessions b4 a while ago. I hit the first one after making my leg go up faster, and not settnig as high. I hit the second one after what may have been 50 more tries. It wasn't too sexy looking (butterfly fast after set), but it was legit.
gyro whirl
I think it may be my first one. from rt ft clip. happy! I tried in btwn the pdx ripwalk attempts.
*******
NYJ
NYJ seems to be going well. I was doing alot myself for the event b4, but Zeke has definitely picked up lots of steam after settling in to his place. The hotel sitch is as confirmed as possible, there are some maybe out there, and some confirmed that I'm afraid might pull out. I don't wanna have to eat lots of overage cost, but I'm expecting things to be fine, since the rate is pretty cheap this year thanks to my cunning (I'm proud
).
I didn't want the event to be very formal in terms of events and prizes, but it is becoming that way a bit. I thought Zeke was doing too much with prizes, but he convinced me halfway that they are a good idea, and the other half I trust him. I'm just concerned with cost of course...there's always a budget, and we're paying for lots of stuff ourselves. We might have to eat shirt and hotel costs depending on how many shirts we sell, and how many people stay. CIC and close friends have sponsored money or prizes to us, which I'm very happy for, and will now consider donating an organ to them if need be in the future, but formal thanks will come later. I think we'll be fine, but worry comes with running events and fronting money I s'pose. Next year (if we/i do this again), we will be much more organized. We're babies this year for chrissake
.
I can't wait to play ghetto games, play/watch smackdown (we might need to bring a vcr, or an RF hookup for a PS2), 4 square, hopefully play some good freestyle, and hit my sick 3....eee, I'm actually excited!

Hi Matthieu!
Kicked with Kamil on thursday, at a gym...good.
Kicked today (friday the 6th) in my basement. No drills just puched doing moves and links. Never really let myself fully rest; just kept pushing, build up endurance. 45 minutes only ( I had to bust out). I really like it. My mind is in the right place after NYJ. After seeing all the phat shit and good easy links, my mind knows that there's no excuse, and also sees easiness. It has b4, but was just reminded.
I think diving clipper> blender BS is new.

10JAN2006 - tues
1 hour then another 1 hour
easy strings, lots of butterflies and osis; trying to get those link moves down., since my strings suck for some reason. used my footfighter for the first time. Felt really good. I think of Henry G. i wonder how he trains. I've read he does long easy strings sometimes, so that confirms my practice today. I ended with almost hitting bubba butterfly (bubbawalk?, i've never heard it called that, but it should be). Only drilled move in that hour really. I got the set lots of times, but not the full monty.
I was gonna stop, but thought of Jorden - 2.5 hours/day, 4days/week. I schooled some flip whirls and flip drifters at the same time. I had to think about Grom's advice, "land a move good enough to hit the next move."
10 or 20 "flip" butterfly > flip whirl > "flip" osis > "flip" pdx mirage
30 flip whirl>flip drifter
theeeeeeen, made it a little harder
10 drifter>flip whirl>flip drifter (took a while)
My flip drifters felt really good. I learned I had to set up straight (meaning I had to be stable from previous move), then my drifter was very thrusty and good. I got a lot of them downtime-ish.
BTW, Reile and Bob had really good posts on the NYJ thread. Annnd I also like Shawn's and Chris' posts.
I tried to call Tim today - no dice. That Nicaraguan's ankles gotta be better by now.

The following does not deal with footbag. Just some other stuff I do.
I took some pics of the gears I'm playing with. Just simple stuff mostly, but little things get in the way of making it quick. I'm trying to make a mortise lock. There will be a (digital) circuit with the output connected to the lock hardware.
Everytang:

Belt/Pulley system

{white: internally threaded thing, black: lock bulk (attached to a bolt), metal: motor at bottom, nails: to keep things in place}
The lock bulk is a few nuts threaded and glued to a bolt. The bolt goes inside the white thing which spins with the motor (or gear or pulley). The lock bulk will move out (lock) when the motor is on or move in (unlock) when the motor is on in reverse after taking away the rotational degree of freedom from the lock bulk (with the nails against the flat walls of the square nuts) .
The white thing above was originally attached to a motor. It didn't have enough torque and was too fast, so I needed to gear it down. It's a bitch to find small gears, though jameco.com has some good ones. I do have some medium sized ones from a vcr I took apart.
Instead of waiting to order small gears, I wanted to try a belt sytem (that I scored from the VCR) - it would accomplish the same thing as gears, but take up too much space in the final design. The bracket that attches the motor to the wood was originally somwhere else so it has a bunch of extra stuff on it. Mounting stuff seems like nothin, but is always such a headache. This is why the belt system was sweet - the small pulley was already on that motor!
Now it does have enough torque - buuuuut just enough, I need more - just in case. The gears might make the difference.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another design possibility
I found a worm gear in the VCR connected to the master cam gear (which I originally thought was too big).
This sytem would up the torque a LOT. I was thinking of putting a pinion gear on the big ass cam gear and connecting that to its mating rack. The rack would be connet to the lock bulk - and booyahsha!
BUT- that big ass gear ain't no ordinary gear my friends - it's a CAM gear. It was already used to move something back and forth in a straight line (that's exactly what I need!).
I quit for today so I can play footbag, but the next step is to find which cam thingy I need to put my follower into, and also how to mount the follower to the lock bulk and wood.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
New Design Idea - No threaded lock bulk needed.
I want the threads because they prevent the lock from being unlocked when it's locked, but a cam might be able to do the same thing.
The follower could be the lock bulk. The motor ould turn the cam which would pusk out the follower. In reverse the cam would allow the follower to come back in (with a spring). While the follower was out, the cam would prevent it from going back in (lock stays locked, same as what i want the threads for). There would still have to be gearing prolly since the bulk would still have to deal w/ friction and the walls of what it goes into (the door frame hole).
I think the cam gear is best right now, but a geared version of the simple cam/follower might be good in the future when I don't have a master cam gear.

kicked after lock thingy.
11JAN2006- WED
Kicked for about an hour.
Strecthed first.
Easy strings.
Solid BOPS and ducks.
Long easy strings
- STAMINA.
6 drifters in a row starting from either side!
:)
tried combo: "flip" barrage > "flip" eggbeater (same toe) > flip DOD
didn't really hit the DOD. I had to just tell myself that the barrage is easy - like no move at all - always gonna hit it, so just focus on doing a good eggbeater and landing it close enough and well enough to do 3rd trick.

thursday
kicked at lane then watched FR2 - gonna comment on it thoroughly once i rewatch it.
Made a new 4 square rule: HIGHLANDER. It still needs some tweaking. It goes like this: Every player starts with one point. Regular scoring doesn't exist. The goal is to take everyone's points by acing them. You have to kill everyone! If A kills B, then A has 2 points; if u then kill A you get his 2 points. Basically, he A was good enough to kill B, then you killed him so u get both of their powers (stretching the highlander analogy). The term kill is not very good , cuz u continue to play even after u lose ur initial point.
A variation i just thought of: you have to kill everyone personally to win.
friday
working on lock. no footbag.

Thanks DAT!
Sesh with Reile and Kamil. I felt really stable...I was landing everything. The BOPS practice has helped my string length. Ducks, butters, and osis like whoa! I played really really well. Long strings with good moves in em.
New moves:
BLURRY DRIFTER (from right foot clipper) componenets were schooled/dialed, but I hadn't tried it. TOO EASY.
HAZE (from right foot clipper) componenets were schooled/dialed, but I hadn't tried it. TOO EASY.

Exactly! It pisses me off when people have their age in their signatures, or when they post their age just to show it off. Shut up already! No one cares! It's not a sign that you're more gifted-- just that you found footbag earlier.
I'm glad someone else agrees.
