When I first saw your video post, I was quite puzzled how anyone could hit that trick because, for me, fender has always fairy blender. We were actually just talking about fender / fender bender at NYJ 2005.Flipsider wrote:You are missing the point. Renaming moves after years of existence is lame. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone in particular, just commenting on the trend. But you guys are acting like children, taking it and making it personal. Whatever, I don't care. Have your sport and eat it too. Anyway, according to the mob rule that is trick naming, I could name Blurry Flying Blender whatever I want, but instead I choose a simple conjunction for the downtime move therein and keep it a fairly technical name. Is that so wrong? I think not. But when I take a quick peak at Modified and dont understand what anyone's saying they hit, I may speak up, and that's my right.
On the other hand, it seems like Atomic Dog goes back to around late 2000. http://list.footbag.org/majordomo/lette ... bag.org%3E

Thanks for pointing that out. I had never heard of "Fender" as you put it. Personally I would just call it Fairy Blender. It would be great if people didn't think every combined trick needs its own name; it's time to devolve. IMO, every downtime move needs a name and every prefix, but that's it. Then you can talk about footbag clearly without expecting people to learn so many extra names. These days it's as if whatever happens on Modified is official, and anyone who doesn't read on a regular basis is just oblivious. I'm sick of it, sorry.
That thread from 2000 is great because it's Alex Fabre and Bruce Dole talking about naming moves they've never even hit! Priceless (though I may be guilty of that some time ago too for all I know). If memory serves, 2000 was the height of the trick naming frenzy. I would hope people are a bit more intelligent/less nerdy today. But maybe it's just history repeating.

???? But renaming concepts is perfectly fine? bigfoot, sideways, FLIPSIDE!!! I could be wrong, you may have been the first person to ever hit a trick on ones non-strong side.Flipsider wrote: Renaming moves after years of existence is lame.

The point is that nobody uses names that people don't understand. Or if they do, they mention also the technical name.
It's stupid when people have to ask what the trick is. It might take days to find it out on forum when the person signs on next time.
I bet most of the people browsing this forum don't know what Atomic Dog is. Until now.
