Apart from all of the amazing illegal purposes one can twist it to, there are a multitude of legal ones that I've used it for.

For example, I've gotten a few versions on CygWin via torrent. Quite a few freeware progs that are larger in size than 10+ megs also have a bittorrent download option. And it is particularly convenient because they can host the file for a few days and then stop seeding and never waste any more bandwidth as others will start seeding the download. Oh. And the YTMND soundtrack was hosted via torrent!

i use it...its doesnt take up as much space as something like limewire and i dont use it enough to get something like limewire...the downloads take longer, but its just easier for me

Bittorrent is fast, and mostly virus free. People using other P2P's alwyas have the risk of adware and viruses.
