Favorite Podcasts... Future Footbag Podcast?

I enjoy listening to podcasts everyday and I have found them to be a great source of knowledge for my interests. I have created this thread to generate discussion about other people's favorite podcasts, as well as share my own favorites with everyone on modified. The following is a list of my favorite podcasts along with an explanation of each.

Alternative Hip-Hop Lounge:
This podcast features nice underground hip-hop music. I tend to listen to the tracks that they have from time to time - a LOT of the rhymes are extremely innovative, in my opinion. This podcast usually comes out twice a month.

CoffeeGeek Podcast:
The owner and designer of www.CoffeeGeek.com, Mark Prince, does this podcast. It is VERY informative about the different types of quality coffees and espresso. This guy really knows what he's talking about, and he attends the world baristi competition every year as a judge. CoffeeGeek does a great job with interacting with its audience. There is usually a new show every week.

Dog Watch Social Club:
Bob and Dale started www.dogwatchsocialclub.com to discuss the fine art of the cigar, as well as wines, sailing, hunting, etc. They put out a new show every Sunday and while I usually don't like the type of music they play, I enjoy their discussion. Members of the forum www.clubstogie.com often call in to the show and interact. If you go to DWSC.com, you can see the winning entry to a contest they held ("Show Us Your Ash") on the front page. That's my friend Chris, with a CAO Italia Ciao standing on its ash. As a result of winning the contest, Bob and Dale sent us a few cigars and a T Shirt.

Gallery 41 - Interviews with Jazz Legends:
This podcast comes out maybe once a month, and has interviews (about 5 minutes long) with famous jazz legends that the creator of Gallery 41 has in his archive from the 70s. Very informative.

MacCast - For Mac Geeks, By Mac Geeks:
This podcast comes out at least once a week and is a great source of information for Mac fans. I learn a lot from this show about my mac, and the direction Apple is going.

MacWorld Podcast:
Syrus Farivar, an editor at the MacWorld magazine, puts out this podcast maybe once a week. They are pretty short - generally about 20 minutes. I learn a lot, and they compliment my subscription to the magazine pretty well.

Melvis Podcast and Official Fan Club:
I really wouldn't advise listening to this podcast until you find out who Melvis is, from the Strange Brood or Unemployment Line podcasts, but essentially, Melvis is a 60 year old karaoke singer. His show is pretty boring, but I like to keep up with it.

Portafilter.net iTunes Podcast for Coffee Professionals:
This is another podcast about coffee. I really enjoyed the first show, and I'm going to listen to the rest of the archives. I can't say much about it because I've only listened to one show. But Mark Prince @ CoffeeGeek is friends with the creator of Portafilter, so I value his opinion.

Stalingrad Gaming: Video Game News:
This is a short (15-20 minutes) podcast that comes out once a week. It deals with mac gaming and the new XBox 360.

Strange Brood:
My FAVORITE podcast. I was featured on one of the latests shows (Show 44) with a promo I recorded, and next week I will be on with a drunk dial that I called into their hotline. This show comes out twice a week - on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are listed under comedy, and it is indeed a pretty funny show. These guys (Kevin and Doug) are both in my fraternity (Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia - a music fraternity) and they are both trombonists in their late 20s who are band directors in Chicago. If you are into music, you should check this out. They do a trombone duet every week (sometimes they get their saxophonist friend Mike to join) and it is always hilarious. What else can I say? The Robin Eubanks Podcast:
Robin Eubanks is a jazz trombonist. This is just a great podcast for good jazz music and an inside look at jazz as a profession. Robin puts these out pretty sporadically.

The Unemployment Line:
Doug from the Strange Brood podcast is also on this podcast. In addition, there is Frank and Greg. They generally talk about random stuff. I don't really know how to describe the show, but it is pretty funny at times. It comes out about once a week.

This Week in Tech:
A great inside look at the tech industry, this podcast discusses the latest technology. I learn a lot from this show. It comes out about once a week.

So those are my favorite podcasts. To find podcasts in iTunes, you can go to the Music Store and search for any topic you want in the podcasts field.

My only desire is to have a footbag podcast! I was hoping that this thread would generate enough discussion and desire for people to create one. I would hope to have someone like Chan or Ken or Jeremy or Mosher or Matt C, etc., someone with a lot of knowledge, to do this. It could be really cool - we could discuss tournaments, moves, etc. It is free for everyone to download. In addition, a phone number hotline could be added that records messages and emails them to the creator of the podcast, an easy way for other footbaggers to call in and discuss various topics. If we created this and got on iTunes - SOOOO many footbag converts would jump on the bandwagon and learn about the sport. It would be great for publicity and stuff. In addition, we have enough people on modified to vote for the show on www.podcastalley.com which is is basically the place that the podcasts are rated. We could easily get in the top 100 of the thousands of podcasts, by the sheer number of people we have on modified. If we were to get in the top 10 somehow (which I would think would be possible if everyone voted, etc.) we could get sponsorship and footbag could really start going somewhere with tournaments. Podcasts are the new media and if we embrace it now - still fairly early in the game, we could potentially build the sport to a VERY high level.

A modified podcast would be awesome.

I listen to the hack podcast sometimes - www.triplej.net.au - it's political news aimed at youth I guess.

Regarding the modified podcast. I don't really have comp access at the moment so couldn't take part very often but it would be really cool. What exactly did you have in mind Dave? Just a footbagger giving a bit of a speach about what's going on in the world of footbag and some theory? That would be cool.

I don't really know what's involved too much but if I can help out I'd be happy to - it sounds like an awesome way of getting some promotion for footbag without a huge amount of effort or money.

As far as the modified podcast goes, I was just thinking that someone could start it with a topic, like discussing symposium or something. It could be a lot like the modified.ca discussion board, with people giving their imput. Also, there could be a move per week. After enough people start interacting with the show, it would get more diverse and we would probably realize that there's a lot to talk about. In addition, people could phone or write in with reviews of tourneys they've recently been too, bag/stitcher reviews, new products like videos, etc. Just a few ideas to toss around I guess.

Just an update: I think my friend Chris and I are going to try to do a podcast soon, and we'll probably mention footbag a little bit. At least that's a start. Anyone else still interested?

Edit: I just thought of something new and innovative that could be included in the podcasts... at events, like Worlds, there could be interviews with players. If they were saved as mp3 files, they could be added into a podcast, so you could theoretically have a show with 10 interviews from players. It would make the community more integrated and... well, let your imaginations run wild.

Okay I started a podcast. http://engagementhead.blogspot.com. You can go there and learn more about it. We mention footbag in our promo, so we're going to try to mention it in the show a bit. I doubt it will be really in depth, but who knows. If you want to leave a comment on our site I'll mention you, and that might spark some footbag conversation.

How big are podcasts? Will I have to take a bunch of music off my iPod to fit it on there? Can I just listen to it on my computer?

i just ordered iLife '06 which is centered around making podcasts....so i say some people get on webcam soon and me and nathan can interview and stuff.....we can do bag reviews and trick help

i just recieved iLife '06 in the mail today- I hope to start Podcasting ASAP. I was wondering though. Would you guys rather do a Footbag podcast (audio) or a footbag Vodcast (video).
if people could email me, AIM me, PM me, or simply reply to this post on whether to do a pod or vodcast, and please anyone that is willing to participate, contact me aswell.

Audio would be easier on people with slow connections . . . like me.

Hmm, audio is more convenient, video is more versatile. More to the point, the purpose is different for both. Audio would be discussing concepts/opinions, interviews, bag reviews and whatever, and video would be tricks tips and whatnot... yes?
