What do votes matter?

This footbag community is definetly not about checking out whos the best.

These online comps are just for fun.

I haven't voted in many months, but I have checked the videos.

Henry, I can tell you why nobody voted, it's becuase there were 5 freekin competitoins! It takes like 2 hours to vote for all of them! Voting is far to big a task now the competitions are so big. The fact the voting pages had a crap month didn't help either.

I can tell you one thing Henry, and that is these competitions are on the rise. This month we have had over twice the number of entrys we normally do, and this thread my friend, is the longest monthly competiton thread there has ever been, taking out the June competition by 11 posts so far :p.

The only thread that is 7 pages or more in this forum is the online string ranking which has been going forever btw :p.

Anz is right, so long as everyone checks these things out and a few people give some feedback, who gives a crap about the votes so long as we come up with a system to give an accurate representation of the comunity's ranking of the players (ie with judges).

If there were a clearer voting deadline, I would have voted for all events. It caught me at a busy time, but I thought I had more time to cast votes. Next time, a clear voting deadline will ensure that I vote.

no offense to the other competitors or anything, and i dun wanna sound like im complaining, but i dont see how my sick 3 is 2nd to last. No one on the pages voted me that low, and difficulty wise mine was harder than some of the people who placed above me. I dont wanna sound like a complainer or anythin but are you sure thats right?

Troy, thanks for letting me know your concern.

The voting system is slightly flawed because I don't make each person vote for every player, because of this some players accumulate less points then they should and end up with a higher ranking.

I also have a feeling the voting pages caused a bit of inacuracy this month. The fact there were only 12 votes doesn't help either.

It turns out all three of the players above you only appeared in 6-7 out of 12 votes, and you appeared in 10 of 12 votes, you have more points even though you were ranked pretty high in each vote.

This is a bug in the voting system, it would not be so evident if there were enough votes.

There is nothing that can be done about it now, so please take these rankings as a grain of salt.

Next competitions i'm focusing on the voting system so it will be vastly improved like the video's were this month. If you want to know how you really measure up, be sure to enter next round

Ha, the voting did suck Troy, its not accurate. Its just the way is turned out from the fact that there were so few votes.

Sorry I have no real internet access and can't watch the videos. Would it be possible for somebody to post up what everybody hit. I'm just curious - especially with the sick 3 combos.

Regarding the whirls comment. According to the official rules for footbag whirl can be hit pdx - ie. pdx whirl is a 4 add move and ps whirl is a 5 add move. I would say that there are a plenty of moves that depending on who hits them, don't have a double hip movement - for example watch Ales Zelinka hit pretty much any pdx move - rather than using his hips he does a slight sideways hop and then hits the move just like the non pdx version. Vasek and many other players do this on some moves and in my own opinion this is a much better technique than doing double hip movements for moves. Considering none of the online comps are judged by adds and the only event that does use adds is shred 30 - I don't really think it's an issue anyway but if people really care about it, I'm sure the IFC would welcome your input.

Finally got a chance to watch the videos too - Props to everybody involved

Some things that really impressed me:

Nic Bathgate - fairy ss double pickup. This is such a sweet move - very cool props!

Jeremy Mirken - Furious drifter!! - Enourmas - Wow!!

Honza Weber - Aragog.

- Clearly the winner.

Jorden Moir - Montage > Marius > Mindbender - the marius was a dragged across a bit but this is still an enourmas combo - one of the sickest sick 3s I've seen I think - really good variety and difficulty.

Phil Morrison - Void > Paradox Symposium Whirl> Mobius - definitely not the hardest sick 3 around but had a really good flow and a good combination of moves.

Honza Weber - Ego > Gangsta Party > Locomotion - amazing. Considering Jorden's combo I think it says a lot that this was without doubt the best combo in the comp. A little one sided but 3 hard moves with hard links.

Regarding voting - I think in competitions like this a very high importance should be put on execution. Hitting a really hard trick is only half of what you should be aiming for - especially when you basically have unlimited attempts I think you should aim to get one that is hit really well. Think about a sport like diving where the degree of difficulty is important but usually the person who wins does so because they have the best execution. There were a number of single tricks in particular where I thought that although they were clean in terms of dexes and ducks etc. they were exectued very poorly and I would have scored them fairly lowly. I also think Jorden's sick 1 was not sick at all.

Overall though the level of competition was fantastic - these comps have really taken off - mainly due to the awesome work of Nic and I think it's a really fantastic thing. Hopefully I'll get in some entries sometime in the future.

Yeah, I just wanted to add that I've re-watched the comp vids several times, including last night. And I voted low on some due to blurry video, far away shots, and thin dexes/stalls. This has been iterated before, but I just wanted to let people know that, so maybe they (including myself) can work on that stuff. I'm no where near as qualified to judge as probably most that voted, but even in the Open comps, where I had even less of a judging eye, presentation and solid execution won over move difficulty.

I'm repeating a lot of what Jeremy just said, and what Ken's said probably countless times

but mainly for the sake of people that may have seen their name on my rank lower than expected. I'm sure they've also taken into account that I'm a novice judge, and take it with a grain of salt.

This will be my final comment for the November posts. Thanks again Nic! The vids, intros, music, were of professional quality, and a blast to watch! That ska song on the sick 15 was probably my fave. I put the vid on repeat sometimes now just to shred to the song!

Just wondering, is honza straight edge? That's what his shirt looked like in the sick 3 video with the xxx. I figured it wouldn't be too of topic because the votes are over now. Sorry if my asking bugs anyone.
